this was a housewarming gift that we've had for over a year now, no real complaints. just right for our small space, and powerful too. i use it for reheating leftovers, "baking" potatoes, heating up canned veg, hot chocolate or tea, you name it. a standard size popcorn bag is a little too big (before it inflates it will get wedged so it doesn't move & the popcorn burns) but we switched to the smaller individual size bags which works fine & works out better for us anyway. no issues with anything else size-wise - fits our standard size IKEA dinner plates just right. the small interior does get quite steamy inside, but that just makes it really easy to wipe down if you heat anything that spatters. i knocked one star off for the beeping. i wish all appliances had the option to turn sounds off. the beep it makes when you press a button is fine, and one of the features i really like is that you can just press "1" for one minute, "2" for two minutes, and so on, which saves you from having to press "time cook", entering the time, and pressing start. but if you don't catch it before it reaches zero, the "done" beeps are pretty obnoxious. SIX loud, long beeps, and pressing cancel won't stop them. the timer function is useful but the beeps have a mind of their own. sometimes it beeps once, sometimes a few, sometimes six, sometimes short beeps, sometimes a beep so long you think about unplugging it, sometimes i think it's attempting morse code. sometimes if you press a button to cook something, it continues this long beep several seconds after the microwave has started running. were it not for that, this would definitely be a five star microwave. it was exactly the size we needed to fit a tight space, it's white, the design is simple. it cooks well and fast, and has all the features we like - clock, timer, baked potato, popcorn, easy one button pushing for whole minute cook times. and the price was right!

When I first got the microwave, I loved the size and look. After using it for a year, I realize that either the small size or a manufacturing defect is causing water to collect under the turntable. I have to lift the turntable and sop up the water almost every time I use it, especially for rice that I cook for 5 1/2 minutes. There's also a large amount of condensation inside the door that needs to be wiped down or it will give the microwave a mildew smell. I'm disappointed with the microwave and would not buy it again. Also, the keypad cover is crinkly, I can't get it off so I don't think its removable, but I can't smooth it out either. Makes the unit look cheap.

Not a fan

By

Comments about Danby Black Countertop Microwave Oven:

I had a 12 year old 1100 watt microwave that died and it was the same size as this smaller, weaker model (different brand). I do not use it much so I wasn't concerned with less wattage. However, the key pad has all but worn off in less than 6 months, and this is NOT used daily. Water collects inside the microwave and it has to be wiped out. Heating a beverage always takes 2 turns with the beverage button. Popcorn never pops fully, even when I set the time instead of using the button and stand there to montor kernals popping.

    Very weak microwave

    By

    from Chicago, IL

Comments about Danby Black Countertop Microwave Oven:

This microwave is very small, which is great in our small kitchen. It does not, however, really work very well at all. I love popcorn (not in bags, but just kernels microwaved in a bowl), but this microwave takes 10 minutes to pop even a small amount! I would not recommend this product. There are higher-quality small microwaves out there. Get one of those.

Great Price, Reliable ... Albeit Small

    By

    from Cleveland, OH, United States

Comments about Danby Black Countertop Microwave Oven:

If you need a small microwave to reheat things, this one by Danby is a great little unit. It is, however, very small, and it took me a few days to discover that it was not large enough to pop a bag of microwave popcorn in it, as once it expanded, it filled the inside! This IS a well-constructed unit, however, and Danby is a reliable manufacturer.

What a great purchase I made!

    By

Comments about Danby Black Countertop Microwave Oven:

It has been working great on a multi-times per day basis. What more can I say? I did the research and it met all my criteria, the main one being low price. Other criteria were size, turn-table, etc.
