This is the second built-in microwave that I have owned. My first one was a different brand and was only available as a microwave/wall oven combo. We moved and remodeled this kitchen too so I went with Kitchenaid appliances since I could purchase the microwave and wall oven as separate units. If one unit quits, I don't have to replace both. One big difference is the microwave fan doesn't stop running when finished cooking unless I open the door or hit cancel. I talked to the customer service people and they think it needs to cool off. They recommend that I let it run next time for 10 min. to see if it will eventually shut off on its own.

When I moved into our new home, I was excited to see such a flashy microwave with so many features. It is installed in our cabinets over the counter top, so it didn't take us long to realize that the pull down door was very difficult to use, especially for my children. You have to be over 5'6" to be able to get things in and out of it without using a stool. I noticed when cooking items, that it takes considerably more time than much cheaper models that we had owned in previous homes. We found the sensor cooking to not work well either. The fan is annoyingly loud when running, but I could live with that. The problem is that when the "completed cooking" alarm goes off, the fan keeps going until you open the door. If you aren't right by the microwave when it beeps, it's easy to miss it and think that the microwave is still running because of the loud fan that keeps on going. I found the convection oven and crisper features pretty useless in a kitchen where we already have an oven and stove top. I guess it would be useful to have if you only had this one appliance in a camper or something, but for real life usage in a real kitchen, very sub par.

My new Microwave!
By Mama Zee
from Germantown, WI, United States
Hi. We remodeled her kitchen and I decided to purchase this microwave oven. I love the space inside so roomie, but I'm a little disappointed on what I would call missing features. I think that it would've been wonderful to see options on cooking different things, Insteqd of only using this for the reheat or defrost options. I have tried to connect potatoes before, but I was a little disappointed as they still tasted like they were cooked in the microwave. Nonetheless, the defrost cycle works perfectly when I'm trying to defrost fish or meat without it cooking in the oven. I am still very happy with this purchase.

Convection use confusing
from Arlington Heights, IL
Comments about KitchenAid 30" Architect Series II Stainless Steel Built-In Microwave Oven:
Using the oven on the convection option is confusing. If you preheat the oven with the food inside, when the oven is done preheating, it prompts you to put the food in. If you don't open and shut the door, the oven will turn off. It would be nice if it did not do that (like the regular oven), so you could set it, put the food in, and walk away. A nice feature would be to have a countdown during preheat that tells you how long until the oven will be heated.

no issues so far. The one odd thing is the fan that does not turn off when the cook time is complete.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY KITCHEN AIDE APPLIANCES!
By Cece T G
I recently purchased new kitchen Aide appliances, the French Door Refrigerator,5 Element Induction Cook top,Convection Built-in Microwave Oven and the Convection Single Wall Oven. I am so thrilled with all of the appliances! My very favorite is the Induction Cook top, it is amazing! I cannot say enough about it! It heats up and cools down just like cooking on a gas stove. Food does not burn on it and the clean up is so COOL! Just wipe it off and dry. NO SCRUBBING! Kitchen Aide really is tops in my book!

Saves time and energy, simple to use. Looks great with coordinating wall oven and fridge!
Sleek looking, Ample space
from Chapel Hill, NC, United States
When in the store I thought the interior of this unit looked small, but it is actually larger than my previous micro/convection which had plenty of space. Nice surprise was the Easy Convert Convesction Control, enter the standard temperature and time from a receipe and the oven automatically makes the adjustments. Also came with some unexpected accessories, a large steaming dish, crisping tray, and oven rack. Like that even when using the convection, the lazy susan still rotates to help foods cook evenly. Very happy after a month of use.
One Year Recap-It works fantastic!
from Calgary, AB, Canada
We installed this unit under our counter last year and it is super convenient and fast for microwaving the kids lunches. We also use it all the time as a convection oven for browning potatoes, or roasting chicken breasts, it heats up quickly and saves on using the large oven. Great to have both features in one unit so a space saver, and the oven looks great.
Cook with ease!

We got this versatile combo unit for our condo kitchen and have been so happy ever since. It's intuitive and makes food preparation/cooking with pleasant ease!

No issues- I just haven't done much convection bake in it to say how that feature is. I like the "soft/melt" option
Love the features
I experimented using the crisper to panfry celery for soup and was pleased. So far, I have used the convection oven to cook pizza using our pizza stone. baked some cookies on the baking sheet. cooked a breakfast casserole as well as the usual microwave activities and they have all turned out great. My pie was overbrowned on top, so may need to experiment with that. I haven't used the steamer yet, but have been very pleased with the rest. The controls are easy to use, but until I learn what each code number is, I get a bit impatient waiting for it to scroll through all the options until it gets to the one I want.
