I had to buy this particular model out of necessity because of where it's installed in our kitchen, and we wanted to match all the other KitchenAid appliances as closely as possible when our previous KitchenAid microwave died after only six years of use. Normally this appliance would be installed over a range or cooktop with upper cabinets on both sides that are a standard 12" in depth. In that type of application any manufacturer's microwave will do the job. In my kitchen I have an exhaust hood over the cooktop so I needed a microwave that would work for an installation alongside a refrigerator with a 24" decorative wood panel that was on the left side of the microwave. All the other microwaves I tried to install had a door that would rub or get pinched on the refrigerator panel when opening the microwave door. This is the only KitchenAid model that has a door that never protrudes past the side of the microwave when opening the door, so it doesn't rub on the refrigerator panel. Now the review:Beyond the fact that it's also cheaper than the other models I was looking at, this microwave has done a very good job with the sensor settings, although you need to press numerous buttons to get there, it's very quite, has a large enough cavity to put charger plates inside, and is 1 1/2" shorter in height than our old appliance which gives us more room underneath.A word of caution about modern appliances though, make sure you buy a five year extended warranty to cover the cost of replacing the control boards that will eventually need to be replaced. They don't make appliances as durable as they used to.Note to KitchenAid: It would be helpful if you included in the specification information that the door opens flush with the side of the appliance, or better yet, make all your microwaves open flush and increase your sales options.

Failed after 16 months!

Comments about KitchenAid Stainless Microwave Hood:
While initially pleased with the microwave, I am extremely displeased with its early failure. The problem is with the door interlocks. It does not recognize whether the door is open or closed. Initial repair attempt was costly and ineffective. Estimate for a more extensive repair were over $300 and not a wise choice. I plan to replace it but not with a KitchenAid product.

Great Results with new Microwave
from Cumming, GA
After using the same Whirlpool built in microwave unit for nearly 19 years, we are thrilled with our new 1000 Watt Microwave unit. Cooks much faster and has many more controls.
Good microwave, my only criticism is that they do not make a smaller version.

Bought to replace our countertop one and when we bought the new range it made sense to buy this at the same time. Absolutely love it.

I did not need a new microwave, nor did I care to replace our existing one. My husband talked me into purchasing this so it would match our range and dishwasher. I thought it was a bit pricey for an appliance we only reheat things in. But, it has so many features, that I am now using it for all sorts of things that I never used my previous microwave for. I really love this.
Very good-looking and efficient matching microwave.
This microwave does a great job in all areas, matching all my other kitchen appliances. Inside is easy-clean, and has many usable features.

I bought along with stove and dishwasher after a kitchen remodel. So happy with quality and appearance. Definitely recommend to anyone considering buying.
Excels the older models
This microwave replaced a 12 year old GE model. It is light years ahead of the old technology. Defrosting does not produce the white cooked edges on chicken, it is always perfectly defrosted, you can also cook pasta in it which I never would have done in a million years. I always used my microwave for either defrost or re heat. You can actually cook with this bad boy. Also looks good and the inside is very cleaner friendly. I would recommend this to anyone especially with a young family. Easy controls, user friendly
