Product Details

Nikon D600 Black 24.3 Megapixels Digital SLR Camera With 24-85mm VR Lens Kit, Model D600FXKIT

Finally, the power of a 24.3 MP Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor in a compact, streamlined HD-SLR body. Create brilliant full-frame images and 1080p videos. Capture every detail in stunning clarity with Nikon's superior 39-point AF system with Scene Recognition. Empower your inner filmmaker with cinema-quality HD video recording features. Nikon FX-format quality has never been more attainable.

Features:

  • FX-quality images and HD videos
Passionate photographers who seek exceptional full-frame, high-resolution performance rely on Nikon FX-format HD-SLRs. For the first time ever, that level of performance is available in a compact, affordable HD-SLR. D600's 24.3 megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor captures every detail with lifelike sharpness. Its EXPEED 3 processing system manages all that data with remarkable speed and accuracy, enabling up to 5.5 frames-per-second (fps) continuous shooting at full resolution. And the low-light performance synonymous with Nikon is again proven deserved—shoot crystal clear images from ISO 100 to 6400, expandable down to 50 and up to 25,600 for extreme situations
  • Highly accurate AF System for superior sharpness
One of the keys to capturing razor-sharp images and HD videos—whether shooting through the viewfinder or with the LCD monitor—is a fast, precise autofocus system, and the D600 has one of the best. 39 focus points with wide-area AF coverage offer endless compositional possibilities. Nine cross-type sensors and seven center focus points work all the way down to f/8 for extended AF functionality with teleconverters and long-reach lenses. When shooting photos or HD video in Live View, Nikon’s responsive contrast-detect AF activates for accurate fulltime autofocusing. Every moment you capture will be razor sharp
  • Flawless metering and onboard intelligence
The D600 delivers consistently beautiful images and HD videos, thanks to Nikon’s intelligent Scene Recognition System with 3D Color Matrix Metering II. Its 2,016 pixel RGB sensor evaluates every scene, taking into account brightness, contrast, subject distance and the scene colors, all within the time it takes to press the shutter release button. That data is then referenced against an onboard image database for consistently accurate exposures, auto white balance, i-TTL flash and subject-tracking autofocus performance
  • Cinema-quality HD video projects
Nikon is committed to developing HD-SLRs that empower and inspire filmmakers and video enthusiasts, and the D600 is proof of that commitment. Shoot 1080p HD videos with selectable frame rates of 30p, 25p or 24p and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression. Bend time with 720p HD at 60p, 50p or 30p for ultra-smooth video playback of fast moving subjects, or create slow-motion footage during post processing. Maintain your creative vision with manual exposure control, fulltime AF with face-priority and subject tracking, dedicated inputs for a stereo mic and headphones, still image exporting, and much more. Enhance all that with the dramatic perspectives and depth-of-field control of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses, and you'll dazzle with every video project
  • Optional WU-1b wireless mobile adapter
With Wi-Fi compatibility, the D600 makes sharing photos even easier. Connect the optional WU-1b Wireless Adapter and wirelessly transfer photos to your smartphone, tablet or any compatible Wi-Fi enabled device. Use your smartphone to instantly upload your shots to the web or email them to a friend. Install Nikon's free Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility and remotely control the D600—see what the camera sees from your smartphone or tablet and fire off shots!
  • Lighting studio optional
The D600’s built-in pop-up flash opens up new shooting possibilities—and not just in low-light situations. Even well lit subjects can benefit from a balanced fill flash for extra depth and dimension. And since the D600’s flash integrates with Nikon’s i-TTL system, it can act as a Commander and communicate crucial exposure information to two groups of remote flashes across three channels for accurate lighting and exceptional results

I used to have the Nikon AF-S 70-200 VR and it was a good lens, but it felt cumbersome, unbalanced and I had primes that would beat it most of the time, especially at distance. I sold that lens and got a 70-200 VRII. The 70-200 VRII is a world of difference. Number one is it's very sharp, at any and all focal lengths, even wide-open. Better color, contrast, faster-more accurate focus and the VRII is amazing. It handles much better and is much more well-balanced. I no longer have any primes that beat this wonder-lens at equal apertures. This is the lens I go to automatically if I need the range of 70-200. Best lens I've ever owned. The ONLY drawback I've found with this lens is the lens hood. On one hand, it has a better lock than the older version, but on the other hand, the hood seems short and the petal edges are rounded so you can't stand the lens on its hood on standby when you need it fast. I have found a different hood that takes it's place and I now keep the original hood in the box.

The Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED is a workhorse ... when it works. Unfortunately for me, I bought a lemon. Since shortly after purchase the VR assembly failed. It has since been to the shop three times, none of the visits has solved the problem. From what I understand it now falls under CA Lemon Law protection. For this reason I cannot recommend this lens. If you are looking to buy the 70-200, go with the VRII.

Sharp edge to edge

By

from Kansas

The day I received this I used it for a VERY large group photo on a D800. The clarity all the way to the edge of the frame was ASTOUNDING. Happy to have a lens that keeps pace with the high resolution images current cameras capture. This purchase replaced the previous generation of this lens. I always enjoyed it...but this lens brings it to a whole new level.

Sharp Lens

By

from Florida

This lens was recommended to me by several people. I rented one earlier this year for a trip to the Monterey coast. I finally bought a refurbished unit from Nikon a month ago. It is sharp, no doubt. The autofocus is sometimes tricky and I need to spend more time to get accustomed to it.

No substitute!

By

from Houston, TX, USA

This lens has traveled from the northernmost tip of Norway (except Svalbard) to the Antarctic Peninsula. The only 'mid-range' zoom lens I have needed, Sharp, fast-focusing, and, in the grand scheme of things, light enough to be handheld. Yes, there is the new VR II, but I have not seen the need for that with this old reliable. The photo below taken handheld from a hot air balloon over Masai Mara in Kenya proves my point.

Great performance in suboptimal conditions

By

from Chicago, IL, USA

Perfect light, perfect setting, and perfect subject composition usually leads to a great photo. Even simple equipment can acquire a special photo in those conditions. However, how photo equipment performs under "stress" when light, subject matter and setting do not cooperate separates high quality from the rest. This lens is just that: an exceptional zoom lens is true to form when everything is just rights, and works hard for you when everything is not. It is fast to zoom and focus, easy to use hand held (nice balance/weight distribution), produces high quality photos at high ISO and is rugged. The attached photos are not my best by no means, but they were taken at an ISO of 1600, 15 rows up from the ice through the glass for one and protective netting for the other at f 2.8 and 4.0 respectively. It's a work horse lens covering a very useful range (70-200mm) for sports and just out and about.

Great Lens

By

from Bluffton, SC

I own the original version of the 70-200mm telephoto lens and use it with a D810. About all I can say is that it is an incredible lens. I take photos of wild life at various distances with VR on or off and the results are amazing. Zooming in during post edit can bring out perfect eyes, strands of fir/feathers, perfect patterns on butterfly wings, etc. I can't imagine that the second version of this lens can possibly be better. This is a great piece of glass and is well worth the money.

I've been a Nikon user and a fan for years. This lens is a bit of a monster, but it is so versatile. It's great, not only for portraits, but slso for landscapes and sports/action events. I'm getting more and more comfortable with the weight.

The greatest lens I have ever used.

Hello all, wether you're wealthy and just scanning over a couple of quick reviews or obsessing over this lens like I did, you obviously want to know about this lens. I know that before I bought it I was constantly trying to justify the price as an aspiring photographer at the age of 15 who was lucky enough to get a summer job. I have personally tried the Nikon 70-200 f4, and the Sigma and Tamron 70-200 2.8s. Personally, (and If you're a Sigma user, brace yourself) If you're trying to decide between the 3 2.8s, I would forget about the Sigma entirely. Camera bodies will come and go, but good glass lasts forever which is why it's always best to buy the nicest quality glass, and the Sigma simply pales in comparison to the bad boy on your screen right now. I have had this lens for over a month now and it still does not cease to amaze me. Sure, its pretty big and fairly heavy when you get it, but those things I got used to within a couple of days of shooting with it. The image quality is nothing but the best coming from some of Nikon's best quality glass yet, and the VR works, as expected, like a dream. I was popping off shots handheld at 1/20 racked out at 200mm, and they're still incredibly, unbelievably, stupid sharp. I am totally comfortable taking this into torrential downpour, (obviously with a plastic bag over my D5100, which is by all means NOT weather sealed...) and shoot all day without a worry. I found the sigma's sharpness and VC to be slightly sub-par, and the image quality didn't have a whole lot of contrast. Did I mention this thing grabs focus like a freaking machine? Set it to infinity-5m and you've gone through it's range in 1/4 of a second. Great for wildlife and sports. Now, what it comes down to, or at least what it came down to for me, was this: What made this thing worth the extra $1,000 over the Tamron? and the truth is, not one single thing made me choose this one, rather a multitude of things. Its the many subtle yet obvious edges this lens has over the Tamron that make it an absolute joy to use. Everything about it is perfect in my mind, (then again, that may just be the honeymoon effect still taking place) and I definitely wouldn't trade it for a Tamron and $1,000. Best lens I've ever used. Magical. Bite hard and buy it. You won't regret it for a second.
