I searched for months to find the perfect refrigerator. This is it! I read all the reviews on this site and took the chance that I could deal with any negatives and so glad I did. I have owned the black ice french door refrigerator for a month. I previously owned a side by side which did not hold enough food for a family of 6. I can now purchase a weeks worth of food with just one visit to the grocery. I just threw a party for 16 people and was able to fit ALL the food including a vegetable and fruit tray the day before. Saved me so much time the day of the party to not have to prepare those items last minute. The only complaint I could have is that a random piece of ice occasionally just falls out onto the floor. This happens once every few days and it's only one piece of ice. Easy solution...just pick it up and toss it. The look of this fridge is sleek and stylish. Wipes clean easily and is so shiny. The interior lights are great and plenty of drawer and door storage. I love the pizza slot in the freezer. What a great idea! I received so many compliments on this fridge. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new refrigerator.

We purchased our refrigerator in March and 3 months later we are having the same issues as the previous reviewer. We have ice forming in the back of the refrigerator and large amounts condensation where the ice bin joins the door of the refrigerator. Had the repair folks out, they say it's a gasket problem, there is a retro-fix by installing a heater and new gaskets in the back of the refrigerator. Interestingly enough, the repair person came to our house with a TEAM of 4 Whirlpool representatives and the Whirlpool representative told me this is a "known problem" with this refrigerator. In addition to this problem, the measured water feature isn't working either. You ask it to dispense 1 cup, it dispenses 1/2 a cup. Whirlpool team AND repair folks were stumped by this and are ordering another part to fix the problem. 3 months, 2 major problems.I am unhappy with any type of "retro-fix" on this $2500 refrigerator that is less than 4 months old. Whirlpool needs to make this right!

mine broke down after 1year and 2 months of use
from Kitimat, BC
I bought this fridge because I found it to be exactly what I was looking for. but it has completely malfunctioned. Both the freezer and fridge do not cool. It was a slow malfunction starting with the freezer, then later the fridge. Am working with Whirlpool and the refridgeration company on getting it fixed. It is 3 days from being 2 months that I innitialy called about fridge being broken down. Not fixed yet, hopefully soon. Tired of using a cooler. I have spent many hours on the phone trying to talk to people and get parts moving and such. I have documented most of my calls. One part is no longer available and they have sent a kit to repair it. Getting to the point where I'd just like a new fridge. I don't know if it's fair of me to do a reveiw as the problem solving is still in the works. But seriously contemplating a second fridge just for this kind of scenario, cause it is not fun. But thankfully I don't have a big family at home. How this is works out in the end would be the basis of whether I'd recommend this brand to anyone.

We see the light!
from Salem, OR
Love the LED lighting! You can actually SEE what's inside! The doors open wide to reveal everything and the freezer in the lower level even has a slot for frozen pizzas. The various compartments are "see thru" and afford nice choices for where things are put- even a drawer for canned drinks. Glad we chose this one!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
My new refrigerator
By Anne the cook

I have being using this new refrigerator for 3 months. I find the configuration of the inside very useful and roomy. However, it has some design issues. The cold air vents in the freezer are at the very bottom. Since they should not be blocked and they are at the bottom, it's a difficult to not put frozen food on them. It would be more energy efficient if the long shelf under the crispers had it's own drawer, as opposed to having to open both refrigerator drawers to get to it. A plastic piece of trim broke off from one shelf after one month of using the refrigerator....not the quality I expected, considering the cost of the appliance. It is quite noisy while running.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Never again, dead less than 3 years
By Georgia Consumer

I've owned this appliance since April 2013, it was a lemon from the start. It was always noisy, had the main board replaced in the first year. Crisper temperature readout never worked after the first 3 months. Recently the freezer fan motor got too loud and broke, had that replaced, but ice had been forming/leaking in the back of the refrigerator/ice maker and the freezer compartment. After a month, the new fan motor is loud again, and now the unit does not cool properly. I put frozen food in the freezer to thaw it out. Food in the refrigerator spoils quickly now, got sick from fresh spinach that went bad faster than I had expected, but because the temperature is too high in the unit. Repair man now says about $1K to repair and mentioned special project #s71233. I called whirlpool multiple times who deny any problems, and all they want is to sell me a new one at a "discount" through their Loyalty Retention Program. What a joke! I bought direct from Whirlpool VIP, and it's criminal that this appliance lasted less than 3 years and they refuse to stand by it and make it right. All my appliances in my house are whirlpool gold, but after this I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool product. I'm going to go buy an LG refrigerator now. It was either LG or Samsung. Not going to throw my money way with Whirlpool ever again.Serial #: K25117155

Dead after 15 months
By busy mom
from Lethbridge, Alberta
We bought this fridge 15 months ago and it is now no longer working. Under warranty the compressor, inverter and evaporators were replaced and the fridge still does not work. A complete waste of our money we invested and now we have a fridge that doesn't work with no replacement.
Problems with my refrigerator
from Castle Rock, Co
I bot this refrigerator 2 1/2 years ago. It has been the worst refrigerator I have ever owned. In the beginning I had many problems with the ice maker. Finally got that fixed. Now 2 years later the MAIN circuit breaker is out and the switch is out. My refrigerator will no longer work. I have been without a refrigerator for 3 weeks now trying to get some one to fix it or replace it.
Piece of JUNK
from Miami, FL
I bought this 4 month ago and the first unit didn't work the ice maker. Brandsmart sent another one and the second unit after 4 month failed completely.Stop cooling/freezing.Customer support sent a technician who said that the valve who handles the cooling/freezing Freon (something like that) was bad from factory and needed to replace it but they didn't have the part.Since I have 2 kids, I had to buy a small fridge to go trough the days until I get this piece of junk repaired and not to mention the amount of bad food I had to disposed. Adding the cost of the fridge plus the trouble, next time I will look into a better brand and more reliable products with better customer service (FRIGIDAIRE never gave me any troubles)Now and After 10 days I'm supposed to have the technician coming to my home on Wednesday to repair it. I think this model was bad and whirlpool knows the many failures this model carries. I contacted whirlpool several times to get it exchange but It seems that they don't care about their customers.
Inverter board went bad after 13 months
I bought this refrigerator, plus a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer in November 2014. Last week, one month after the warranty expired, the inverter board on the refrigerator went bad. Obviously, I'd expect major components to last more than 13 months. Additionally, I am now having issues with the washer as well - not filling with enough water, not getting clothes clean. Whirlpool was the only brand I looked at when purchasing these appliances, due to strong reviews and the Whirlpool reputation for quality. Suffice it to say I'll be looking for other options in the future.
