I love my slingbox. I use it all the time on my phone and my ipad. The only thing that is missing is the ability to stream it to another TV well. I currently stream it to my ipad and then use mirroring on Apply TV, but if there was an app for Apple TV that made it full screen would be so much better.

Tested this out to watch the first round of the college football playoffs at a vacation home on a large screen TV with consistent dropouts despite excellent broadband at the sending and receiving locations. An alternative streaming service tested at the same time worked much more reliably. I am showing my displeasure by returning this substandard product and urge others dissatisfied to do the same. At the receiving end I had a new Vizio 4K HD and a Roku3 box that seems to work perfectly and had the Slingbox app installed. Test #1: I downloaded the Slingbox app on my phone ($14.99!) so the Roku app could receive the Slingbox broadcast via my wireless router. (Note, once the Roku is connected by the phone, the phone can be switched off since the streaming function then goes directly though the Roku.) Results: would work about 5 minutes before losing the signal and would have to restart the process. This was definitely the worst. My wife was not happy. Luckily I realized within an hour that this was hopeless and was able to get an app refund on Google Play. A reviewer on Amazon said the refund limit was 2 hours so I only downloaded it when I was ready to go. Test#2: Same as Test#1 except I used my Android tablet instead. Results were the same. Test#3: I used my Windows 8 laptop to go to slingbox.com and watch my broadcast. Then I set up my TV to function as a wireless display (i.e. Miracast/WiDi) which works pretty well. This worked better than Tests #1 and #2 but it lost the connection enough that it wasn't worth it to try to pursue it any longer. Again the wife was not happy. Test#4: Similar to Test#3 except I signed on to WatchESPN (using my Comcast account). This definitely worked the best and the connection was solid. However, instead of commercials ESPN plays a single electronic composition in a mind numbing loop. Again the wife was not happy (after a while) but at least I was able to mute! Bottom line is that it is a great idea but the implementation is not reliable enough. My aim was to watch my expensive home cable subscription at the vacation place so I wouldn't have to pay for another cable subscription that I was only going to use for a few weeks each year. So far, mission not accomplished.

Very Bad, compatibility with BELL PVR and Box
from Montreal, QC, Canada
After beeing a user of PLEX, I decide to switch to sling box. Error. Product is suck, poor quality, etc. My connection is a 175gigs up and down, so problem is not there. Very bad experience. It all be related to the BELL service that I am using, who knows... but this is going back to the store !
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great Product. I have family living in Japan and they love to log into my Slingbox 500 to watch and record their favorite programs at their convenience! Keep up the good work!

Shhh don't tell the wife

Finally the day has arrived. I got my 500 today, and could not wait to hook it up. What's worse I had to hide it, and install it while my wife was not looking, and I had to hide the old one in our room. Mission accomplished, life is good… well at least till my secret gets out.

We bought this and installed by instructions provided and by watching videos on website. My laptop will not play and I have the highest internet speed available. iPad played with so much buffering it was painful to watch. I am now having to pay someone to come reinstall and see if they can get it to work. If not we will return to store.

Zero support for Chrome (64 bit)? Absolutely horrible! Don't waste your money!
If you have a 2nd home, a Sling is a must-have.

I own a condo where we spend considerable time throughout the year. Since it is not a primary home, I brought high-speed internet in through the local cable provider, but did not purchase a package that included cable TV. This was intentional, as I needed reliable data access for work (and all of the kids tablets, phones, etc), and for the minimal amount of time that we actually watch TV while we are there, streaming media, Netflix, YouTube, etc, would fill that need since I purchased a smart-TV. Or so I thought. I found that I miss most of the sporting events for my home team(s), and buying the local cable didn't get me what I needed anyway. As with most condo associations, you can't install a dish, so you are left with a mixed-bag of solutions/subscriptions that kind-of fill the need. I also tried a high-end Digital antenna since I have the top-floor condo. I tried it at our primary home and it worked exceptionally well, so I had high hopes for at least some broadcast channels in the condo. I went into the attic and installed the antenna as high as possible, but still could not get a signal because of the location of our condo complex. I thought I was out of options until a friend mentioned that he 'slings' TV to his cabin in upper Minnesota, and that brought me to Sling. I must have watched the video on your site about 10 times trying to figure out what I was missing. It couldn't be THAT simple, but it was. You put a Sling box between your home cable box and your TV, you follow the prompts that appear on your TV, and in minutes you are watching TV from anywhere. One of the hidden gems that you didn't mention on your site is that your home experience does not change at all. The Sling box just inserts itself between the TV and your cable box, but neither device actually sees it there. I bought the Sling 500, which does give me the ability to make my home TV smarter when I choose to, but the cable box will never know about it, which is the real magic here. We still use the same remote from our cable company and do everything the same way. I will say that I have seen some of the negative reviews about a choppy video and/or sound being out of sync with video, but since I'm on high-speed at both ends of the equation I have not experienced this at all. I do travel for work, and have seen both of these problems when I'm on the shared network at a hotel or convention, but Sling can only do so much with that physics problem. :) I give my Sling500 5 stars because it has solved the exact problem that I had; Lots of great channels at home, lot's of internet speed at a 2nd location, but no access to the channels that really mattered to us no matter which package we bought from the local provider. Problem solved with no additional subscriptions or inconvenience. Thanks Sling!
No support for external USB Drive
from Brighton, MI, United States
Sorry for the negative ratings. The Slingbox 500 works very well for place-shifting TV content. The latest software updates, however, have dropped support for the external media device (USB drive) from users who had already purchased the Slingbox 500. This was a great feature and I hope Sling will bring it back.
