After doing research for months online and in person, I chose this Hotpoint 3.7 washer to replace my 25 year old workhorse of a washer. I think I chose well. I didn't want the hassle and expense of electronics and liked that this model had knobs, no gears, no HE bells and whistles, that you could stop the wash if you needed to, and that it was white rather than the new cold metal look. I also chose this for the plastic basket since my old model from a different manufacturer had that and I had no problems with it. I was leaning toward the porcelain ones but I know they can chip and rust, and the "steel" baskets did not appeal to me as I know they can be noisy and have seams. They don't look like steel but rather some kind of metal mix, so those seams could end up rusting. I read all the reviews and have concluded, as did some other reviewers, that the people that had problems with this machine, just didn't read the manual or follow directions. It is a quiet machine, and washes well. There are a few snaps and pops when cycles change but no biggie. I like that there's a variety of wash cycles, like PULSE and REGULAR. The extra rinse option is great too. It spins to nearly dry so my dryer cycles are shorter now and I save on electricity that way as well as wear and tear on my clothes in the dryer! For washing, the clothes should not be wrapped around the agitator, but balanced and folded into the washer. I set the water and while it's running, add the detergent (it's not HE but still doesn't need much) so it can mix, then gently add the clothes. It's a great washer and am super happy with it. The only thing I wish it had is a lint and debris catcher like my old one. If you've had problems with noise or grinding make sure you are not allowing it to run and only then adding the clothes. There appears to be a kind of sensor that can tell if there's no clothes (by weight?) and it will misbehave. That's what happened when the deliveryman ran it. Once I ran it with a load of clothes and the right amount of water and detergent, no noise and no problems! It's too bad they are discontinuing this and the other washers that are similar to the old timer ones. I feel they don't make the newer ones as well as the old style ones. It's all about "planned obsolescence " isn't it? But I will take care of this one as i did the old one and I am sure it will last me a good long while.

Earlier this month I wrote a review of this machine with my complaint that it did not adequately rinse my laundry. Since then I have found the answer to this problem. Set the machine on "Power Rinse" regardless of whether or not you will be using fabric softener. In doing this, a spin is added after the wash cycle, and the tub fills with the same amount of water that was used for the wash cycle for the rinse and spin. I'm very relieved to have discovered this and only wish this information had been printed in the manual. Probably it was not because this cycle takes more water and energy, but at least my laundry is rinsed!

Solid washer. Good selection of features.

Had this for a few years now and it's a great washer. No problems, although would be nice if it had a better automatic shutoff when the spin cycle gets super unbalanced (which happens very rarely).

Washing machine.

By

We washed our clothes, sheets and blankets. We use only cold water. It all came clean except it had some dog and cat hair and lint on some items. I had to shake that off. We have one horse, nine cats and four dogs. The machine seems to balance well when spinning even if I overload it a little.

I have been satisfied with the washer, except that it does not give you the option of washing in hot water.

OK washer

By

from Phoenix, AZ, United States

Overall it's a good washer. I don't like that I cannot open the lid without the washer stopping. I understand on the spin cycle, but not the wash cycle. It doesn't fill with water to where the picture shows. I also didn't realize that I didn't have a Hot/Hot cycle. It's an OK washer.
