I picked this microwave because of the convection oven feature. I expected that this microwave would have all of the features of other lower-end microwaves+ the convection oven, but it's actually missing some obvious features my cheap microwave had. 1. There is no 1-button cook function. Before, I could push just "1" or "2" and so on to automatically cook on high for 1 or 2 minutes. Now I have to enter 1-0-0-start to cook for 1 minute. 2. At the end of every cooking cycle, to go back to having the clock displayed, I have to push "cancel". Otherwise, it displays a messaging telling me to enter more time to continue cooking on the same program, and then eventually displays COOK and 00:00:00. 3. The fan comes on very loudly for all microwave cooking. I expected this for the convection oven, but even for a 10 second microwave cooking, the fan comes on and the metal vent flap blows open (it vents to the outside, which is good). It's loud enough that even on low, you can easily hear it in the next room. On the plus side, 1. Once the cooking completes and the end time starts to beep, if I open the door it stops beeping. 2. It cooks fast. 1:30 seconds brings 1 cup of water to a near boil, 2 minutes cooks a bowl of oatmeal. 3. It comes with a metal stand and rack for use in the convection mode and also a plastic steamer pan. 4. It's possible to turn the beep and end timer off, if you want. You'll know it's done when the fan sound stops. So I can recommend this microwave if you really want the convection oven (and if you're hard of hearing, that's even better), but be warned about the missing features.

We bought this in January as part of a kitchen remodel; I really wanted an over-the-range micro/convection combo that vented outside, and took a chance on this one. I've been very disappointed. First, the lack of "one-touch" quick cook for 1-6 minutes, which I thought I wouldn't miss after I got used to it, turns out that the rest of the disappointing features just amplify that lack of convenience. Second- this microwave does not vent the steam that builds up inside the unit during cooking, so when you open the door, steam billows out, and the entire inside of the microwave is covered in moisture, requiring you to wipe it out completely every time. Third, the preprogrammed options for cooking and reheating, and the order they scroll through, are silly. Under "cook", one of the first options is french toast. Seriously? I don't know anyone who cooks french toast in a microwave. Frozen vegetables, one of the most common things to cook in a microwave, doesn't scroll by until the 5th option. The convection options, one of the key reasons I bought this, are also relatively useless. I wanted to use the convection feature to minimize "microwaving" as much as possible, but the things I want to cook are not listed. Specifically, squash, like acorn or butternut. When it finishes cooking, instead of going back to clock, the display asks you to entire more time, and doesn't go back to clock until you press "cancel". If you do nothing, it continues to "ask" you to enter more time, and more than an hour passes before it will at last return the clock display. During the "add more time" display, even the ONE quick cook option, 30 seconds, no longer works as a one-touch option. I have been through all the setup options, and there is no way to have it automatically return to clock after cooking. But the first two are the biggest disappointments, and I wonder how long until the insides deteriorate or rust from all the moisture accumulation. That last one, in my mind, is a serious design flaw, and now I'm stuck with it. Along with all the other annoyances and inconveniences.

Comments about Whirlpool Gold Stainless Steel Microwave Hood Combination:
Love this microwave. It has a lot of nice features and everything works great so far. I like the sensors that automatically reheat the food and it's easy to clean. I haven't really used the convection oven yet, but I can't wait to test it out. I definitely recommend this product.

Very satisfied with this oven but directions for convection use not sufficient
from Johnstown, PA
Very pleased with everything about his oven except there are not specific enough directions for using the convection oven, just a few general. I needed to know if I could use a metal pie pan but the directions did not address anything but a baking dish. Can I use metal or silicone pans or does it have to be microwavable glass? How much should I decrease the baking time if I use the manual setting?
from El Paso, TX
We have a single (large), built-in oven in our house. We have found this to be inconvenient when you want to bake / broil multiple items, especially around holidays. We replaced our regular, over the range microwave with this fantastic, large convection / microwave combo. Didn't have to tear up cabinets to add another standard oven and this has a lot more capability and flexibility than a standard oven. Saved a ton of money by avoiding cabinet work and the cost of a standard oven. In fact, we have only used our standard oven to broil in the last month.
Needs a good manual
from Orange County, CA
As others have said, the manual is useless. There's nothing in it that says how to use the convection oven. Other than the lack of documentation this seems to be a good product.
This product has great features.
from Toms River, NJ
I love my microwave, BUT I purchased it and paid much, much extra for the convection feature. Unfortunately, the manual comes with very, very limited info on the features. I don't even know what features I have, as the teeny manual lists all of the ones available and says "On Certain Models" and I don't even know if mine has those features or not, SO,,,I like what I CAN do with it, but am pretty sure I can do a lot more if I knew excactly how to do it. (I tried downloading the manual from online, and it is the same puny little bitty printout as came with the oven.)
Has marvelous features

Love the variety of features - still learning how to use all of them but so far very pleased
We like it but.......

The only thing about our microwave that irritates us is the timer feature. If your using the timer & want to heat something while using the timer, you lose the timer function. With our old Whirlpool microwave the timer would continue after heating something. Also door is slightly out of alighnment.
Heats food up fast. It even melts or softens butter.
from Marion, oh
I just noticed the other day while baking that it softens a stick of butter. That is an awesome feature. Food heats up super fast and evenly. I love Whirlpool products.
Great all around product

This Whirlpool WMH76718AS is a great microwave given honorable mention in ConsumerReports, July 2013 edition for over-the-range microwaves. Only three microwaves were listed! To date, I’ve used both the microwave and the convection oven. The “popcorn button makes great popcorn with minimal non popped corn. It senses the weight and sets the time to pop automatically. Twice I cooked salmon fillets on the rack in the convection oven with great results. I avoided the preheat function and started the cooking cycle after setting the temperature and time to cook manually. There is one strange feature that requires you to cancel additional cooking time to return the display to time-of-day. However, this feature makes sense when I set up a consecutive series of microwaving foods because I don’t have to press “cook continuously then set the time for each item. Still, pressing cancel seems awkward. Wow! It's beautiful in my remodeled kitchen.
