This wonderful KitchenAid® attachment has changed the way we view ground meat products. From the very first time I purchased an inexpensive roast, asked the butcher for a half pound of beef fat, went home and ground our own home made ground beef, we decided we would never buy store or factory ground beef again. There is no comparison. After the "pink sludge" scare a few years ago, everyone wants better ground meat products and this simple device makes it not only possible but easy and affordable. I also grind pork butt and make our own sausage patties by simply adding a bit of sage and you can too. I also grind the beef, pork and veal to make the best meatballs ever. If you have ever considered this attachment, quit thinking and go get it. You will be so glad you did. Thanks, Mark from Sacramento, CA

I love the grinder. The problem is, with a company that makes such a superior Standmixer, I have had to replace the grinder twice, and shredder twice. They crack easily and at the cost of them, they are not a good buy. I just purchased one of your vintage grinders that is made of aluminum and wonder why you changed the aluminum to plastic. The plastic ones aren't any good. As for the shredder, I decided to go with a cheaper brand food processor instead of purchasing a 3rd one. I love my Kitchen Aid and have bought one for both of my kids because they are excellent. But advised them that the accessories aren't worth the money. Sorry.

Don't Buy!

By margo1127

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

Once the blade gets dull, it doesn't work, and cheap replacement blades won't work either. The meat gets all gummed up in the plates, and you have to keep taking it off and rinsing it.

Meat Grinder

By glc sr

from Texas, United States

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

Is the best purchase I've made in a long time. We have quit buying store ground meat. The wife or I will buy the cheapest cuts (on sale) of beef &/or pork and as soon as get home I'll get the grinder attachment out. In an hr. or so we'll have fresh ground meat. I sometimes add some venison for a variety. Then I vacuum seal ~2# per bag, label and in the freezer all goes except for what am cooking in the next day or 2. Also, very easy cleanup afterwards. Note: after clean & dry I lubricate the O ring on shaft with a little Olive oil.

Good Results.

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I bought this grinder recently for the mixer my mother bought me 33 years ago. After purchasing it, I read these reviews and was concerned that I would have to return it. But decided to try it anyway. I put stew meat through first then put the cooked meat and veggies through together. It preformed very well. I was very pleased. I was surprised that it fit my 33 yr old mixer. I think I'll keep it. If it breaks later.....oh, well.

My food grinder

By DMSOregon

from Oregon

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

We live on a farm, I home can a load of food every year and I love this grinder. We have our beef butchered and I save a lot of the scrap meat to grind up and add to our dogs food. We have two working herd dogs and they need the extra goodies in their diets. Sadly after only three years of use my grinder cracked along the side where the set pin is and I will have to replace it.

Gray junk coming out

By Malena519

Pros

  • Easy to use

Cons

  • gray metal shavings falling into the meat

Best Uses

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I purchased this grinder and used it once to grind some pork. It works fine, however, every now and so often a chunk of gray stuff falls into the ground meat. I researched what the problem was, and apparently this model is known for the problem. It appears as if metal shavings get mixed in with the meat (fat), attach to it and fall out. There is no help for it. The Chef's Choice meat grinder for KitchenAid stand mixers seams to be doing a much better job. This one is very disappointing.

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I have been making sausage since i was a child and this was simply the wurst! Seriously, we tried to make 10 lbs of chicken/feta spiced sausage and it was barely useable. To be honest i will go out and buy a cast hand-crank grinder before i would use this again. The slop between the feed gear and the wall of the grinder is so large that unless you force the meat down the shoot it will barely self feed and. Additionally, once ground you cannot use this tool to stuff the casing. Once ground the meat will squeeze past the gear and stay in the tube unless you force it through with the plunger. The plunger should only be needed to knock meat into the worm gear, which SHOULD be doing the work. After 1/2 hour and maybe 10 finger length sausages i traveled 9 miles to go get the old hand crank stuffer to finish the job. This grinder and stuffer are going back today. I am sure someone will state that the picture shows stuffing the sausgae directly from the initial grind. You could do that if you want a poorly mixed products. I highly doubt that it would have the power to stuff a casing because the design is so poor. Additionally, If you think of it you want to be able to stuff your casing at the same level as the stuffer tube. With this you have to either hang the sausgae in the air and break the casing regularly, or you have to build some sort of table to receive the sausage. Look at any commercial stuffer and you will see the tube exits at table level. This is simply an introductory tool and not for any regular use. It's one of those gadgets that will sit at the back of the closet.

We are working with the aluminum grinder and have used it for over 20 years. Looked into the new ones and decided to keep the old. We'd like to replace the inside blade but you don't show to have any parts for the unit. That would be a good idea. We've tried sharpening the blade and hope it keeps working for the next 20 years.
