This wonderful KitchenAid® attachment has changed the way we view ground meat products. From the very first time I purchased an inexpensive roast, asked the butcher for a half pound of beef fat, went home and ground our own home made ground beef, we decided we would never buy store or factory ground beef again. There is no comparison. After the "pink sludge" scare a few years ago, everyone wants better ground meat products and this simple device makes it not only possible but easy and affordable.

I also grind pork butt and make our own sausage patties by simply adding a bit of sage and you can too. I also grind the beef, pork and veal to make the best meatballs ever.

If you have ever considered this attachment, quit thinking and go get it. You will be so glad you did.

Thanks, Mark from Sacramento, CA

I came here to report large cracking in the FGA and assumed since Kitchenaid stands for quality that it would be covered by a warranty. At a retail price of over $60 this shouldn't break so easily. It's a few years old however it has been used how many times?? maybe 7 ??

Poor quality

By

from Los Angeles, ca

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I received this about 10 years ago as a wedding gift. I was looking forward to grinding my own meat at home without purchasing a whole other appliance to do so. Well I only used it a a dozen of times, if that, over the past decade the housing cracked. It's made of thin plastic which just can't hold up to the stresses of grinding meat. Overall it was easy to use and clean, just disappointed in the quality.

Black meat and sludge

By

from Houston, Texas

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I bought the meat grinder along with the shredder and the citrus juicer probably about a year and a half ago and am just now getting around to trying out the meat grinder. I'm very frustrated that I spent so much money on it because after about a minute of grinding, black pieces of meat starting coming out. I took it apart to find that a meat had compacted at the back of the grinder and had turned black. I cleaned all of the pieces and used paper towels to dry it and wipe off the black inside the tube at the back of the housing where the end of grinding worm feeds through to fit into the mixer. After doing some research on the internet, I found that many people were having the same issue. Some had different strategies to deal with it, including using cooking oil to lubricate. Others are just assuming it's food safe machine oil. I tried lubricating with mineral oil and the same thing happened. I cleaned everything again and had my husband lubricate it, since he's far more familiar with mechanical things than I am. I thought maybe I was putting it in the wrong place. I tried to grind some more meat. That's when I got the black ooze coming out around where the blade and plate connect. I took it apart and found that there was black liquid at the back of the housing and inside the tube again. I've had this black liquid when I juice, but I thought it was from juice going back into the mixer housing. Juicing is messy and the juice goes everywhere. Now I'm concerned that it's getting into my juice before I notice that it's there. I'll also be checking my shredder. I haven't noticed any black cheese, but certainly don't want to be ingesting this.

hesitant but happy

By

from Virginia

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I was hesitant to buy this based on the reviews I read but I'm glad it was the only one available. I attached my grinder to the kitchen aide and lo and behold got exactly what I'd read...meat squishing out all over the place. It just didn't make sense to me so I took the time to look at the pamphlet and realized the attachment has both grinding attachments attached and screwed on when you take it out of the box. Hmmmm...so I unscrewed the connection and took out one of the two grinding plates; reattached it and it works like a charm. Already ground fresh burger and marinated pork to make egg rolls. Recommend you put a note in there to check and remove one of the grinder plates!

Plastic Housing Cracked

By

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I've used this grinder about 20 times or so in the last couple of years. The plastic housing cracked last time I used it. It should last longer.

Good Idea - mediocre execution

By

from New Jersey

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

i've been using this attachment on my food processor for the past week to make ground pork for dumplings but no matter how tightly i screw on the plate, the ground meat starts pouring out of the sides of the screw cap, ultimately clogging the grinder. it could have been an amazing attachment that would have been a big time saver but now i rarely use it unless i'm forced to. please fix the design so that the ground meat doesn't just seep out all over the place...

Great for what I do.

By

from San Antonio, TX

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I have had this food grinder for several years and use it constantly. I use it to grind the cooked vegetables when I make my own salsa (tomatoes, onions, garlic, hot peppers). I bake the vegetables and then run them through the coarse grinder to get a chunky but consistent consistency. I could easily put them in a food processor or blender, but prefer the chunkiness from the bigger grinder die than the smoothness from a blender or processor. This thing works perfectly and consistently and always gives great results. The only issue I have had with it are that pressing the juicy vegetables down the chute with the wooden press will occasionally put too much pressure and cause the ground veges to squirt out the die & beyond the bowl or to squirt back up the food chute - but I attribute this to my over-pressing the food to speed up the process. Simply turning up the speed does a better job of grinding quicker.

Let me add this disclaimer: I do not grind meat with it. I don't grind venison, boar, or even beef for burgers or chili. But, for my use in grinding vegetables, this does a perfect job every time.

terrible blades

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

The blades on this accessory are horrible. Just grinding chunks of meat for meatloaf requires cleaning out the blades every other cycle.

Room for improvement

By

from Providence, RI

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I have used this attachment for over a year. I haven't experienced any of the issues posted by other reviewers (i.e. metal shavings on the meat, oil residues, etc.).

Several design flaws as with other KA attachments:

The hooper could be certainly bigger and a food tray should be default with the grinder (instead of having to buy an additional accessory).

The plastic pusher is probably one of the worst ideas. It is basically a thin stick with a plate at the end. Instead of properly pushing the meat downwards sends small pieces back up when you push! This becomes worst if you try to pass the grounded meat for second time through the grinder to achieve a very thin grind.

A full cylinder fitting inside the feeding tube would have been a much better option.

All plastic construction is not my preferred material, particularly for handling meat, however it does the job.

Since the grinder is a mono-piece, cleaning the inner parts properly is not very easy.

Disappointed, not durable.

By

from Waterbury, CT

Verified Buyer

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I recently bought this grinder at a kitchen/chef supply store. I was excited to have item to use with my stand mixer. Sadly, the housing sustained a crack during usage. I was careful not to overstuff the unit, or apply too much pressure with loading meat. I expected more, especially because I certainly paid the price for the name. I will continue to use Kitchen Aid products, but as far as this item, I guess I am better off using the old school manual unit that clamps to the table.

Food Grinder sometimes works well

By

from Chillicothe, Ohio

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I got this food grinder quite a while ago but the grind worm broke a piece off and I ordered just the new grind worm. I think my husband said it cost 20-30 dollars. Today I used it again for the first time using the new grind worm and the cooked chicken kept getting jammed up and I had to take it apart about three times before finishing my chicken salad. Cheese works pretty well as I had made pimento cheese spread in the last one before it broke. If this one breaks then I will go back to my old metal one that attaches to the table top.
