This wonderful KitchenAid® attachment has changed the way we view ground meat products. From the very first time I purchased an inexpensive roast, asked the butcher for a half pound of beef fat, went home and ground our own home made ground beef, we decided we would never buy store or factory ground beef again. There is no comparison. After the "pink sludge" scare a few years ago, everyone wants better ground meat products and this simple device makes it not only possible but easy and affordable.

I also grind pork butt and make our own sausage patties by simply adding a bit of sage and you can too. I also grind the beef, pork and veal to make the best meatballs ever.

If you have ever considered this attachment, quit thinking and go get it. You will be so glad you did.

Thanks, Mark from Sacramento, CA

I came here to report large cracking in the FGA and assumed since Kitchenaid stands for quality that it would be covered by a warranty. At a retail price of over $60 this shouldn't break so easily. It's a few years old however it has been used how many times?? maybe 7 ??

Works . . . but

By

from Poway, CA

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I like grinding my own meat for chili and sausage, but now I'm concerned. Blood spatters everywhere, but I can adjust for that. I can second every complaint - grease and black bits in the food (I just picked them out but hadn't thought about heavy metals!); grey dust on the metal parts after washing it in the dishwasher; sinew wrapping around the spindle; and I can add another - the plastic housing is cracking at the bottom where it attaches to the mixer. I always think of the mixer as the top of the line, but the attachments and accessories leave me tepid.

Terrible food grinder. Unless you like Grease.

By

from Minneapolis

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

Wasted several pounds of ham. Ran some through, looked great then noticed ALOT of black particles. Pulled the grinder apart, and the axle was covered in grease, also coating all the meat. Nice design boys.

Would be a fine grinder if not for the metal particles

By

from Michigan

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

The grinder gets the job done, which is all you can ask of an appliance. However, there is a design flaw in which metal particles from the inside of the machine get siphoned in via the corkscrew action. This makes the product unusable due to the health risk of consuming heavy metals. When grinding an unseasoned meat such as ground beef, you can clearly see the metal deposits as you grind. It's a shame, because this is an otherwise adequate tool.

Leaks grease into you food

By

from Michigan

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I LOVE my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. I use it all the time for baking and cooking. For that purpose it works great. However, I have purchased the meat/food grinder attachement. My intention was to make homemade ground beef pattys for burgers. The machine will not grind the steak or roast to burger. It gets clogged right away. Even worse that the few bits of ground burger that make it out are coated in black greese from the axle. This machine is not cut out for use as a food grinder. I'm very unhappy with this aspect. More so disappointed. Much of my reason to invest in Kitchen Aid was because of the various accessories compatable with the machine.

Does the job as long as it lasts

By

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

This is the second FGA I've had in the last 15 years..first one was used maybe 10 times in 5 years or so and then the housing split apart. Tossed it and then bought a new one, have had it for about a year now and it gets used maybe twice a month and where the set screw for where it attaches to the mixer has basically drilled out. Now the set screw is biting into the drive shaft. Trying to decide if I want to buy another one of these or buy a completely separate one..

not dishwasher-safe!

By

from Austria

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

The meat grinder works fine, if you're only using it once in a while and for small quantities of meat - for larger chunks of meat it simply lacks power and stability, also a good deal of meat will get stuck in the ring and wrapped around the blade.
Apart from that, I find the casing material to be a major flaw.
Since it is processising raw meat, all parts of the grinder should be dishwasher safe, yet the grinder body includes aluminium parts (the end you connect to the stand mixer), that will corrode when exposed to salt in your dishwasher.
The manual explicitly declares the body dishwasher-safe, yet after washing it in the dishwasher, you will have to clean your fingers and everything else that has come into contact with the alumium of the grinder, for grey corrosive dust will rub off of the metal on touch.
The same goes for the whisk of the stand-mixer: Come on Kitchen-aid! Your stuff comes at a steep price-tag, why don't you manage to produce a whisk made of stainless steel or coated aluminum, making it dishwasher -safe? Is a pain in an explicitely implicit body part to be forced to clean the whisk with all its little wires by hand, this is design flaw other manufacturers like Kenwood don't bother their customers with - please fix this!

Poor quality

By

from Los Angeles, ca

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I received this about 10 years ago as a wedding gift. I was looking forward to grinding my own meat at home without purchasing a whole other appliance to do so. Well I only used it a a dozen of times, if that, over the past decade the housing cracked. It's made of thin plastic which just can't hold up to the stresses of grinding meat. Overall it was easy to use and clean, just disappointed in the quality.

Black meat and sludge

By

from Houston, Texas

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I bought the meat grinder along with the shredder and the citrus juicer probably about a year and a half ago and am just now getting around to trying out the meat grinder. I'm very frustrated that I spent so much money on it because after about a minute of grinding, black pieces of meat starting coming out. I took it apart to find that a meat had compacted at the back of the grinder and had turned black. I cleaned all of the pieces and used paper towels to dry it and wipe off the black inside the tube at the back of the housing where the end of grinding worm feeds through to fit into the mixer. After doing some research on the internet, I found that many people were having the same issue. Some had different strategies to deal with it, including using cooking oil to lubricate. Others are just assuming it's food safe machine oil. I tried lubricating with mineral oil and the same thing happened. I cleaned everything again and had my husband lubricate it, since he's far more familiar with mechanical things than I am. I thought maybe I was putting it in the wrong place. I tried to grind some more meat. That's when I got the black ooze coming out around where the blade and plate connect. I took it apart and found that there was black liquid at the back of the housing and inside the tube again. I've had this black liquid when I juice, but I thought it was from juice going back into the mixer housing. Juicing is messy and the juice goes everywhere. Now I'm concerned that it's getting into my juice before I notice that it's there. I'll also be checking my shredder. I haven't noticed any black cheese, but certainly don't want to be ingesting this.

hesitant but happy

By

from Virginia

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I was hesitant to buy this based on the reviews I read but I'm glad it was the only one available. I attached my grinder to the kitchen aide and lo and behold got exactly what I'd read...meat squishing out all over the place. It just didn't make sense to me so I took the time to look at the pamphlet and realized the attachment has both grinding attachments attached and screwed on when you take it out of the box. Hmmmm...so I unscrewed the connection and took out one of the two grinding plates; reattached it and it works like a charm. Already ground fresh burger and marinated pork to make egg rolls. Recommend you put a note in there to check and remove one of the grinder plates!

Plastic Housing Cracked

By

Comments about KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment:

I've used this grinder about 20 times or so in the last couple of years. The plastic housing cracked last time I used it. It should last longer.
