iRobot Looj 330 BlackGutter Cleaning Robot, Model L330020

Enhanced cleaning performance. Smarter operational features. The New iRobot Looj 330 Gutter Cleaning Robot blasts away leaves, dirt and clogs while brushing gutters clean. Featuring a high-velocity, four-stage auger and the new CLEAN mode, Looj travels down your gutter on its own, sensing and adapting to debris in order to provide the most effective cleaning.

Features:

Cleans Leaves, Dirt And Debris Out Of Your Gutter
The New iRobot Looj 330 Gutter Cleaning Robot blasts away leaves, dirt and clogs while brushing gutters clean. Spinning at 500 RPM, the high-velocity, four-stage auger breaks apart clogs, then lifts and throws them away from your roof as sweepers and a scraper clear the remaining debris.

  • Two Operational Modes: Simple One-Button CLEAN Mode and Manual Mode: Use Looj 330 in either manual mode or automatic CLEAN mode. Manual mode allows you to control the robot. In CLEAN mode, just push the CLEAN button and Looj travels down your gutter on its own, sensing and adapting to debris to provide the most effective cleaning.
  • Four-Stage Auger With Suite Of Auger Parts: The included four-stage auger is made up of the breaker, ejectors, breaker bars and sturdy polypropylene sweepers. Another set of smaller, more compact ejectors is also included.
  • Lithium Ion Battery: This battery technology equips Looj with a strong power source, giving it the power needed to handle your gutters, including tough clogs, in no time.
Reaches Far Into Your Gutters So You Don't Have To
Looj 330 performs a difficult and uncomfortable job for you, cleaning up to a 30-foot section of gutter in 5 minutes and up to 200 linear feet per charge. The new remote control lets you drive the robot further along the gutter than previous generations. This increased range allows Looj to clean longer stretches of gutter without moving the ladder.
  • Increased Range With New Remote Control Handle: The detachable handle is also the remote control, giving you complete forward and reverse control of the robot as well as automatic CLEAN mode selection. You can also control the spin direction of the auger. This new wireless controller has an improved communication range of up to 50'.
  • Low Profile Design: More compact than previous Looj models, now at just under 2" high and 3" wide, Looj is able to fit in more gutters, including most K-style aluminum, copper, metal or vinyl gutters.
  • Waterproof Design*: Wet leaves are often the biggest culprit in clogged gutters. Looj was designed to operate in the wet environment of gutters. This also makes for a quick clean-up - simply spray Looj with a hose when done.
*Looj 330 is waterproof in up to 8" of water with the battery door properly sealed.
Takes A Dangerous Job And Does It For You
Home owners often put off cleaning gutters due to repeated trips up and down the ladder and overreaching from dangerous heights. Looj reduces the risk of injury from repetitive climbing and extended time on ladders and also helps to prevent overreaching.
  • Slip-Resistant Rubber Handle: Keep both hands on the ladder. Slip-resistant rubber handle allows for safer robot handling.
  • Belt Clip: Looj comes with a belt clip to provide hands-free carrying. The belt clip keeps Looj away from hands and legs, making ladder climbing safer.

Bought this last week and was very excited to get it as I have 3 very large oak trees one on each side and on the back of my house. I had 6" K-style gutters put on 4 months ago and this was the first time cleaning them. The Looj did pretty good overall and saved me from having to climb a ladder 100x but some large drawbacks:
When it hits a bunch of muck, it has a tendency to flip. Since it is on tracks, not that big of a deal right? Wrong. If it flips, forwards is backwards and vice versa. In auto clean mode, that means it starts going backwards through the areas behind it that are already clean. You have to manually send it back into the muck to try to get it to flip again. Which means you are watching it the whole time and/or manually controlling it most of the time. It needs a tip over sensor.
Had a track come off 4x. It can still limp along missing a track but you have to take a ladder to that spot and get the track to put it back on. Not sure how to fix this one.
When it thinks it is stuck, it turns off the ability of the remote to do anything which means you have to climb a ladder to go rescue it. I'd rather it just warn me and let me decide to figure out how to get it. I faked it out a couple of times and pulled the remote batteries so I could turn off the auger or switch directions and it would come free no problem.
No spare battery - can't even buy one. My house is ~175ft of gutters and I had to charge it 4x. I really want a spare battery so I can swap them out without having to wait for the only battery to recharge.
"Whiskers" are not replaceable without replacing the whole auger attachment. The blades are fine but the whiskers are bent back and are even getting caught with junk when it wraps around the auger.
Handle is useless when the Looj is dirty and has junk under the attachment point. Need to rethink the small sliding area as when junk gets in there, you can't slide the handle in to attach it.

In short, it saved me from having to climb the ladder 100x but honestly probably took 3x longer to do the job, and I did have to reposition and climb the ladder 8-9x to fix a problem(track came off, Looj autoshut when it was stuck, etc). I think this is a great device, has lots of promise, needs to address the above issues which I think are easily fixed, give it a little more power to clean up muck that's built up and it would be a clear winner. I'll continue to use my Looj 330, just more frequently so there's no build up that causes most of the issues above, and hope iRobot can include fixes to some of the issues above and I'll buy the next model.

Just had my gutters professionally cleaned 2 months ago. Tried the robot today but it went only 3 ft before the long leaf pine needles wrapped around the flipper and stalled it. I had to move my ladder every 4 ft. Took me over an hour do clean 42 ft of gutters with less than an inch of pine needles in them. Could have cleaned it in far less time by hand with many fewer ladder moves. If you live in the southeast where pine trees abound, you are wasting your money.

Comments about iRobot Looj 330 BlackGutter Cleaning Robot:

My first use I had many of the problems that many of the poor reviewers had. I tied a string to the back of it now and let if go forward. I keep tension on the string and can tell a lot about how it is performing. The string is handy to pull it back a little bit when in tougher debris, and then let it advance slowly. It saves me lots of ladder time on a side of a hill that I feel is dangerous. It's a good product once you get the handle of it. Use lithium batteries in the remote as they seem to last longest and work best.

      CAN NOT GET REPLACEMENT PARTS

Comments about iRobot Looj 330 BlackGutter Cleaning Robot:

I have been recommending the Looj to others because it saves me from climbing a 15 foot ladder or hanging off the edge of a steep roof. But in the first season the brushes on the auger have worn out. I consider this reasonable but when I contacted iRobot to buy a replacement part, they told me I could buy an accessory kit. I do not need an accessory kit, something one usually buys with an initial purchase, I need a replacement part.

            Awesome Product.
If you live around trees that are close to your house this is an invaluable tool that will pay for it's self over and over.
I've had my Looj two years now and it continues to impress me. I have a tall colonial home and a very pitched roof that I can not walk on. Looj drops into the gutter and launches the debris out of the gutter on my house spanning almost 400ft in total. Even wet leaves are cleaned out. The gutter surface is almost shinny on it's return trip. (I run it down the gutter and then back).

It would cost me $135 to have the houses gutters cleaned twice a year.
The Looj does it in an hour no matter what debris it finds.

I have to admit I was sceptical when I purchased both the 770 Roomba and the Looj but now its hard to see life without them. If iRObot keeps creating products like this, It might be true that every home will have a robot in it by 2025...

I have used the "looj for three years and was very satisfied until the spinning head literally broke off while in the gutter. This occurred in normal use. I don't expect something t last forever, but hoenstly, I expected it to last longer than this.

Comments about iRobot Looj 330 BlackGutter Cleaning Robot:

The Looj gives up too easily!

99% of the time it will think that it is hopelessly stuck when it is not.

When it thinks it is stuck, it goes into "red mode" where it will not respond to the remote control at all! You cannot tell it to move and you cannot tell it to clean. You have to go and fetch it yourself and hit the power button on the side of the Looj unit make it reset.

Ultimately you end up going into full manual mode where you basically double-click the forward button and hold it down until the remote control blinks yellow. When it blinks yellow it means that the Looj has run into more debris than it can handle. Let go and wait a couple seconds.

Then put it in reverse for a few seconds. If you don't get any yellow then switch back to forward and repeat.

If you get a yellow blink on the remote control, it's very important to stop sending commands to the robot. Otherwise you could risk it going into "red mode" and then you'll have to go and fetch it.

Pressing the "clean" button is a sure way to get your Looj to go into "red mode" so I never use it and I drive the Looj manually from the remote. Which means sitting there baby-sitting the robot while it cleans.

In my opinion, it's a serious software problem...
A robot should never just go into a mode where it decides to completely ignore the remote control. Very annoying..

Overall, it's still better than cleaning gutters manually. It just takes a bit of learning how to operate it well.
