First things first, I really, really like this washer. With that out of the way, let me tell you a little about why I like it, and can recommend it. Before I talk about the advanced features, let me mention that I am an IT person by trade, and love technology. With that being said, If a product does not perform its core function well, all of the "bells and whistles" do not matter. Thankfully, this washer does both. It performs its core function (washing) extremely well, and also has plenty of technology if you take the time to set it up. 1. Setup I think whirlpool could make the setup of this washer easier for non technical people. The washer did not even come with the appropriate manual for how to put the washer on your wifi network, which is needed if you want to use the "smart" features, or have it text you, etc. It supporst wifi protected setup, but most people do not use that. In order to get it online without wifi setup, you have to access the washers network page. Thats not too difficult, but for some reason whirlpool does not give you the instructions for how to do this in the box... you need to go to the smart appliance website, create an account, and then hunt around for installation instructions. Most people will give up before getting it online, unless they are technically inclined or have a techie friend / spouse / child. The online setup (as I mentioned) is a 2 part affair, with putting the washer on your wifi, then creating an account on the smart appliance website, then finally adding the washer to the account. On the web portal, you can input 2 phone numbers for the washer to contact (to let you know things like detergent level, when its done washing, when it wants to be cleaned, etc), and also setup an email address if you prefer to get email over txt messages. If you have more than 2 people you would like to get notified, you are kind of out of luck. They should let you notify more than 2 people, as these notices are kind of cool. 2. Usage The washer is very intuitive to use, and has a nice display. The settings are pretty self explanatory (jeans, heavy duty, normal, etc), and there is also a nice built in help feature that tells you what each option does. Additionally, there is a "specialty cycle" section for things like blankets, comforters etc. Each of the presets (both the normal ones and special ones) can be adjusted. If it suggests warm water, and high spin for your blanket but you want to use cool (not cold) water, you can easily change it. If you have gone through the effort of getting the washer online, and setting up your online account (and telling it who your utility company is), the washer will recommend delay washing when the rates are higher. It will automatically start at the time the rates go down. A nice feature for saving a little money if you do not have to have your clothes done right then. It also has a fan fresh setting, which will tumble the clothes when they get done, so they do not sit and get stale. Very nice for if you are washing and running errands at the same time. I really like the automated soap dispenser as well. You tell it the concentration of your liquid HE (high efficiency) detergent, and whether your water is hard, and it automatically measures out soap for the size of the load. No more guesswork, or using too much soap. Using too much soap is one of the reasons front loaders can start to grow mold, so this is really nice. Its also nice if you have people who wash and just throw the maximum soap in there "because more soap = more clean, right?" The spin cycles of the washer extract so much water that your dryer will dry your clothes in half the time you are probably used to. The washer uses almost no water (if you watch it while its washing, the clothes basically do not sit in water at all... they are soaking wet, but not sitting in a pool of water. basically ideal for conservation and cleaning). I am in california and had to order this washer from a vendor in chicago, because it was not sold here. I think whirlpool should release this washer nationwide, as it does an excellent job of getting clothes clean, is very quiet, and has a pretty intuitive interface. The only negative is the awkward setup process to get the washer on your network. Its expensive compared to simple washers, and I can not speak to its longevity as I have owned it for 3 months or so, but would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get a top of the line washer (its great even without the app features), but would highly recommend it for anyone looking for top washer performance along with some pretty nifty convenience features / notifications.

This washer has never run for more than a few days at a time

Do not order this machine. It has too many circuit boards and displays that break repeatedly. My machine has had every board replaced and still breaks frequently

Looks great, easy to use. Had trouble setting up wifi, had lengthy conversation with Whirpool. Overall I like the product but it could clean the clothes a little better.

    Love WiFi connection!

    By Jmlind25

Really like the connectivity of this washer! Keeps me out of trouble with my wife :-). Many times in the past she asks me to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer, I usually would forget...not now. This washer is connected and sends me an alert when it is done - my reminder to move the clothes to the dryer! Thank you Whirlpool for keeping me out of trouble! Oh, and the number of feature are great and it does a GREAT job of the core function...cleans me clothes!

    Nothing short of fantastic!

We took delivery of this a little over a month ago. It is a replacement of our previous Duet and the evolution of this model is amazing. The detergent cartridge is not only convenient but keeps the detergent tray clean and tidy as compared to the gen1 model. The smart features of this model as well are fantastic. I could go on and on about how wonderful this washer is!

My wife and I made the investment and purchased this machine. We have no buyers remorse. We love the cycle choices, ease of use, and I especially the smart dispense detergent reservoir. The unit is stacked with the matching dryer and is located just off our first floor family room and we can barely hear it.

Love it. The laundry came out very clean. The only draw back is that the rubber ring of the washer accumulate dirt and water after use. Hard to clean.

I put laundry facility in my unit this past summer. No more going to laundry room in lower level! I bought matching front load whirlpool washer and dryer and could not be more pleased. They are exposed and look very sleek.

    Excellent washer - few quirks

    By vicenac

    from Azusa, CA, United States

In the beginning I could not tell if this washer does any miracles in terms of cleaning, but after a few weeks my wife told me that my white socks are becoming white again, so there! Yes, it washes very well. All the things most people care about are excellent, washing, noise, vibration, pretty lights, etc. ... but I am the picky one, so let me highlight the bad: - the large (relative) LCD screen rely on side (under) buttons to allow you to make choices, like an ATM. Well, some of this buttons require more force to push then others and also their top surface is un-even, as in, some stick out a little more then others. My wife never noticed, though. - the screen has some animation I could live without. - connected functionality is limited. You can get instant power consumption, turn air fresh on, get notified when the cycle is done, but not much more. This machine can store 7 custom programs that I have to put together with the buttons on the machine. This would be perfect to do on my phone or iPad and then send to the machine, but we're not there yet. I also did not see anything about firmware updates, so I don't hold any hope of better future functionality. - turning ON the Wi-Fi is done by pushing the SmartGrid button. Your router has to be instructed to accept the new client. Most router call this a WPS printer add, but the instructions do a bad job at pointing that out. In fact I am going to call out the instructions on this machine as well as other Whirlpool products as mediocre at best. - The detergent dispenser will only measure the detergent, but will dump all the bleach and softener like any other cheap machine. SO although you can just add the clothes in and push start, without worrying about adding detergent, you still have to open the drawer to add those additives. Most times I forget. In conclusion, I am very very happy with this purchase and I would buy it again. There are small improvements to be made as I mentioned above, but most mortals will not even notice them.

I owned a Maytag washer and dryer before they were owned by Whirlpool for 23 years with no problems. Purchased a front loader Duet to replace. Three years latter the spin cycle sounds liking it is taking off for a moon landing and it is eating our clothes. Will be replacing soon and NOT with a WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT. So terribly disappointed.

Comments about Whirlpool Duet Diamond Steel Smart Front Load Steam Washer:

We recently moved into a new house so we bought this washer. Ever piece of fabric we own had to go through it after the move. At first I was not seeing any miracles, but my wife noticed that my white socks are becoming white again, after a slow move to gray with our previous machine.
I am very picky so I'll just list the quirks and let downs. Everything else is great!
Setup - you need to pretend this is a WI-FI printer with some wireless routers. To begin setup you have to push the SmartGrid button. No other options on the screen. The manual is trying to walk a user through an alternative setup scenario, but frankly it was written by someone who has no idea about the subject.
There is useless and annoying animation on the screen - Theme 2 is way better.
Mobile app is very limited in what it offers. It does keep track of electricity consumption and number of cycles etc. Why can't I setup MyCycle from it? That would be the most important thing I would use it for. Instead you have to deal with the interface on the machine.
Whirlpool servers currently sends two error email messages per cycle, ehhm in error. Customer Service says they're working on killing them.
Working the machine interface is akin to an ATM interface - buttons located under the screen correspond to options on the screen. However some buttons stick out more then others and some require more effort to push then others. Actually the main Start button feels pressed down but does not do anything unless I give it an extra nudge sometimes. Annoying! And it's too bad to introduce such a feeling of clumsiness and low quality to otherwise a great product.
The manual says that the precision dispenser is dispensing all the fluids (includes softener and bleach) and yes, it does that, but it does not actually measure them. It does so with detergent, but it releases all the additives like any other $200 machine, so you do not have to measure your detergent and add at every wash, but you do have to do that for the other two fluids, resulting for me in not using them at all. I guess a good thing is that the clothes are still coming out nice.
Rubber hoses were included, so if you are OK with those (I was) no need to buy extra. The dryer, however had no hose, but it did have the Y splitter.
And that brings me to the final point - Whirlpool seems inconsistent in what it provides as accessories, information and manuals. There are accessories suggested in the manual, but no trace of them on the website. The website mentions some brochures that I cannot find, etc.
Last note - the electric dryer is smart, but the gas one (which I bought) is not - not a huge let down since the functionality is so limited but certainly a deflating feeling.
