I was looking for a replacement for my cheap blender that developed a leak and was a nuisance to use. I didn't need a four hundred dollar powerhouse to crush iphones, just a good, reliable blender that I can count on. I was torn between this one and Ninja 1100. After some research I decided to pick up this KitchenAid and I'm really glad I did.
It's perfect for me.
Here is what I need a blender for: make smoothies, milk shakes, ice drinks and frozen drinks (primarily margaritas).
KitchenAid does it with ease. I love the dedicated "crush ice" button that automatically pulses blender's contents at highest setting. 15-20 pulses and half a pitcher of ice turns into quarter a pitcher of snow. Nice, flaky snow. It goes through frozen fruit without any hiccups and I don't have to use microwave to help it. KitchenAid creates a vortex inside it's pitcher guiding contents into the blade and crushing everything to a smooth liquid.
For some reason KitchenAid doesn't advertise it, but this blender has a 720 Watt motor. Sure, Ninja is more powerful at 1100 watts, but it doesn't create a vortex, it has a stick with blades in the middle of the pitcher, so you really have to add a lot of fruits/veggies to make it work properly. Want a glass of milk shake? You're out of luck with Ninja, you have to make at least 2.

I hate even standing by a kitchen sink, so a blender had to be easy to clean. KitchenAid is - add a drop of dishwashing liquid to the pitcher and some water, put it on "stir" setting, then rinse. You're done.
Cleaning Ninja 1100 is not that simple - you have to take out that stick with blades and wash it manually, cutting yourself in the process. And you will cut yourself, even if you are extra careful, those blades are wicked sharp.

To me, a blender had to be reliable and well-engineered - I don't plan to buy a new blender every couple of years. KitchenAid's motor base and pitcher base coupling is all metal, covered with plastic that dampens sound. Ninja's couplings are plastic one the pitcher and metal on the base - much less reliable.
Also, KitchenAid is assembled in USA. Not made, some parts are probably from China, but motor seems to be US-made. Nowadays, to slap "made in USA" label on the box, manufacturer has to produce every single part in the USA. So even if only the power cord was made in China, you couldn't use "made in USA" label on the box.

Blender is loud (it's a blender, come on), but it's not painful to use. My old cheap one screamed like a jet during take-off and I was reluctant to use it early in the morning.

One thing that I would change about this KitchenAid is the pitcher cap - it doesn't sit tightly enough, so I have to hold it on the highest settting with a full pitcher. I don't mind, it doesn't have to run for long on the highest setting anyway.

Overall, it's a great blender and I don't see why I need to buy Vitamix or Blendtec, KitchenAid works perfectly fine. It breezes through ice and frozen fruits, easy to clean and well-made.
If you are on a fence, get it and try it yourself. After all, you have 30 days to return it if you don't like it, Abt makes all returns easy and hassle-free.

It's worked great so far. I don't use it much, but when I do I experience zero problems. I expect this to last for many years. It is a little loud, but that's to be expected from a blender. Plus it only lasts a few seconds, so not that big of a deal.

This product is great. This is probably the best piece in my kitchen. It is very well made and its all motor. I make protein shakes and I use frozen strawberries and ice with no problem what-so-ever. I love the fact that the controls are so very easy to use, plus it gives you several options. As a matter of fact, the motor is so powerful, that when you are using the "crush ice" button, you can't walk away; because as tight as the lid fits, and it's tight, while its crushing whatever frozen item you put in there, on each pulsation the lid slowly tries to pop off. Its powerful people. Another plus is that when you are done, the pitcher comes right off and washes out very easily. I have had several people over and made them smoothies, they were very impressed. Now they will be looking into getting the KitchenAid 5. This was the only one out of six blenders that actually obliterated a whole apple into a smoothie until there were no pieces left. None of the other blenders comperable to this one could do that. That was the main reason I picked the Kitchenaid 5. I also got it at a good price. If your going to invest, get the Kitchenaid 5, that way you won't be buying another one years later. I have not run into any problems or negatives about this blender.
