Roku 3 Black Streaming Media Player, Model 4200R

Fastest, Most Responsive Roku Ever

Once again, Roku redefines in-home content streaming with the Roku 3 Streaming Media Player. Improving on the already successful Roku 2 XS, the Roku 3 sports an all new user-interface which includes one-stop search, for a quicker, easier viewing experience. Jump directly to the movie or TV show you want, across a library of channels, right from the home screen.

New to the Roku 3 is a dual-band wireless system, compatible with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, which gives you twice the bandwidth for streaming and decreases playback issues caused by packet loss or network delays. That extra network go-juice will help you stream content at up to Full HD 1080p resolution to any HDMI-compatible HDTV.

More Entertainment Options Than Ever

Many know Roku media players primarily as Netflix streaming devices. And while Roku players have always been the best way to get Netflix onto your TV, they also offer a wealth of other streaming content. The Roku 3 expands on the existing selection, now giving users access to over 750 entertainment channels. Watch new video releases on Amazon Instant video, a documentary on Netflix or a comedy special on HBO GO. Find instructional cooking videos, aerobics classes or local programming from Italy. Listen to an Oldies station on Pandora, or your favorite playlist on Spotify. If you'd prefer more active entertainment, head to the app store and pick out a game like Angry Birds, and play it with the motion-sensitive remote control. With the new Roku 3, your entertainment sources are nearly unlimited.

For those who like to use their Roku 3 when others are trying to sleep, built into the remote is a headphone jack; simply plug in the included earbuds and stream away without disturbing anyone else. Free iOS and Android apps give you the ability to control your Roku 3 with your smartphone, or transfer content from your phone to your HDTV. The USB port gives you yet another way to share your personal media, and the onboard MicroSD slot lets you add extra storage. With such a wealth of options in such an unassuming package, it's time you made the Roku 3 the hub of all of your multimedia entertainment.

Features:

  • The fastest Roku experience ever
Fly through the new interface and get to what you want to watch in a flash.
  • One-stop search
Instantly find your favorites all from one place, from top channels like Netflix, VUDU, HBO GO and Amazon Instant Video.

I started out with Roku 1 over 3 years ago just to cut cable/dish prices. With an antenna we were pretty happy--but on a lot of channels we did not get without a lot of interruption. Over a year ago we switched over to Roku 3. LOVED IT. Very few problems if any...unless internet connection was sluggish. We upgraded our tv to a "smart" one and tried roku on that but decided to go back to the box---we liked it much better. The box works on Wi-Fi but we get a much better reception and NO interruption if we plug it directly in. We do get lots of channels and yes we had to decide what was important--saving money or certain tv programs--we chose money. We did opt into Netflix for movies but that cost a month is /was still cheaper than what we paid at direct-tv. I do suggest that if you go and cut the cord completely - get an antenna. We have internet 99% but it always seems that when and IF it goes out --is always when you are in the mood to relax and watch a bit of tv.

I purchased a tv for my mother who is starting to have memory problems. When you turn on the tv, you have to choose which input every time. Every time. Even when the power goes out for a second. I traded her my tv so she could watch it. If someone is having memory issues, this tv is not for them. I called Roku and even though I have a tv, I still have to get internet and a cable provider to get the specific channels I want. What is the purpose of paying for the roku and the internet and the satellite/cable. Just eliminate one bill, Roku

Doesn`t work well with HULU!

By

from South Carolina, United States

Verified Buyer

For the most part it works okay, but when it comes to HULU you have to wait a couple of minutes between shows for it to load when it feels like it. It likes to reboot itself a lot of the time. If you contact customer support they give you the run around. Do this do that, but nothing helps to fix the problem. You`re probably better off with Chromecast or some other streaming box. I used to like the Roku, but not anymore!

Better than cable television

By

from Lopez Island, WA, United States

Verified Buyer

I've had my Roku for awhile now so I am pretty sure I can give a knowledgeable review. I am amazed at all the capabilities that it can give you. First of all, I bought one because I live in an area, (an island), so I have limited access to cable. I can't use an antenna and get free channels either. I used to have satellite tv through a subscriber, but I don't like having to have a contract in order to get a discount. So, with that said, I researched a little and found out about Roku.
Roku offers more than any other product I've come across. Better than AppleTV, because with AppleTV you can't add channels like you can with Roku. With my Roku I have access to thousands of apps to add, so not only can I watch pre-recorded tv and movies I can also watch live streaming sites, FOR FREE, or with a small charge if I want better channels. Also, there are a few great sites on the web, such as mkvxstream.blogspot.com and rokuguide.com to find channels for my Roku. I could probably talk all day about Roku, and all the great features it has to offer. And besides watching media, I can stream from my ipad/iphone directly, to watch movies I've downloaded on my device.
I haven't tried the Roku stick, but I have bought a second Roku for more bedroom, and I don't know what I would do with out it. Also, even thought I haven't done it yet, I have heard that I can take my Roku device to hotels/motels, and hook up to the internet so I can watch my content too. I just keep forgetting to take it with me.
I definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to get away from the big companies and have the choice to watch what you want.

Good player but has glitches

By

from Arlington, WA, United States

Verified Buyer

Easy to use menu, great selection of channels. Love the earbuds feature. Has glitches that have not been addressed by Roku. Suddenly won't let me change themes, especially to ones I paid for. Won't add to home screen some channels I select, free or paid for. I have read other posts online from people who have these same issues. I also own a Roku 2 which has never had these problems.

Limited

I bought this probably a year ago and am disappointed. Trouble with channels often, too little valuable content available on the channels that are not pay per view. Remote is way cumbersome to enter any info so one has to use a phone app, etc. etc.

DOWN WITH CABLE AND SATELLITE!!!

By

from Undisclosed

Even with a subscription to netflix, hulu and sling, we are saving way over $100 per month with Roku. Waiting hours for a tech to come and fix something...no more! I do howver like the hardwire than the stick. We have the Roku 3 in the living room and the Roku stick in the bedroom. Roku 3 hardwire has a clear stream, as with the stick, it can get a bit pixilated. I would rather have the ocassional pixil than lose satellite signal during a storm. STREAMING is the FUTURE!!!

Good but not great overall quality

By

from Columbus, OH

My Roku 3 has been a bit of a problem since I got it.
Now and then I have to unplug it - it locks up and will not do anything.
Other than this I like the way it works.

Too much religion. Not enough sports.

By

from Eastpointe, MI, United States

Verified Buyer

It sucks cable somehow owns sports. If you can find a way to allow me to watch all of my local sportd games, i would give the 5 star. Roku is a great invention. If you get sports you become a legendary product. The only other complaint is the endless channel search and it has a poorly organized interface. Other than that the thing is sweet. Plenty of hours of entertainment.
