Nikon D7100 24.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit, Model D7100KIT

The Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera is the new flagship model of Nikon's DX-format DSLR lineup. Improving upon its wildly successful predecessor, the D7000, Nikon packed the new model with an array of advanced features that will please both beginner DSLR users and professional photographers alike.

At the heart of the Nikon D7100 DSLR is an all-new, 24.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, designed without the optical low pass filter typical to most DSLR cameras. The resultant images from the D7100 are rendered with a sharpness and detail unmatched by any other DSLR in its class. With native sensitivity up to ISO 6400, and expandable to ISO 25600, the D7100 practically sees in the dark, letting you shoot without a flash to capture natural-looking memories in the lowest light.

For the ultimate in versatility, this Nikon D7100 DSLR kit includes the NIKKOR 18-105 VR zoom lens. Its wide focal range lets you capture everything from wide-angle scenic vistas to tight portraits of your loved ones. Vibration Reduction (VR) is great in low-light situations, helping keep the lens steady when you can't, while the Silent Wave Motor (SWM) helps the lens focus quickly and quietly.

To ensure that the D7100 was fast enough for the most demanding situations, Nikon outfitted it with the EXPEED 3 processor, the same unit found in Nikon's professional cameras. This processer lets the Nikon D7100 shoot 6 frames per second continuously for up to 100 images, helping you get multiple shots of even the fastest action. Easily track moving subjects with the pro-level autofocus system, which utilizes 51 autofocus points to ensure fast, accurate focus.

If you're more interested in moving images, the Nikon D7100 has a full complement of movie functions, including full 1080p HD video capture at multiple frame rates. Combine a 24 fps frame rate with the narrow depth-of-field of DSLR video to give your movies a truly cinematic feel. Or shoot 720p video at 60 fps, for professional slow-motion capture.

All of these features come wrapped in a durable yet lightweight body, with the comfortable handling typical of all Nikon DSLR cameras. Magnesium-alloy construction and an array of environmental seals protect the Nikon D7100 against dings, dust and moisture. Dual SD-Card slots let you shoot for longer without changing your memory card, or allow you to record the same photo to each card, creating an instant backup of all your memories. Review your photos on the vibrant 3.2" LCD screen, or use the optional WU-1a wireless transmitter to send directly to your smartphone or tablet.

Features:

  • 18-105mm VR Lens Kit
Kit includes the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens for fast, accurate autofocus, vivid color, striking contrast and crisp detail; along with VR image stabilization to ensure the sharpest hand-held pictures and movies
  • Pure, sharp images
The D7100 marks an exciting advancement in image quality for high-resolution DX-format cameras. Nikon specially designed its 24.1-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor without using an optical low pass filter (OLPF), resulting in the purest, sharpest images using D7100's DX-format CMOS sensor. Combine that with fantastic ISO performance at both ends of the spectrum—down to ISO 100 and up to ISO 6400—the processing speed and intelligence of EXPEED 3 and the extra lens reach of a 1.5x crop factor, and the D7100 is the ultimate tool for those seeking a lightweight DX-format HD-SLR
  • High-speed shooting with flawless metering and autofocus
When the action speeds up, fire a blazing fast 6 frames per second continuously for up to 100 shots. Building on the acclaimed autofocus system from the D300s, the D7100 uses 51 focus points, including 15 cross-type sensors for detecting both vertical and horizontal contrast variations, to achieve fast, precise focus. The central cross-type sensor works all the way down to f/8, a huge advantage when using compatible teleconverters. At the same time, a highly accurate 2016-pixel RGB sensor evaluates every scene, taking into account brightness, contrast, subject distance and color, for spot-on auto operations like Face-Priority and full-time autofocus during video capture
  • Compatible with the WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter
The D7100 makes it easy to share your great photos immediately, wherever you are. Connect the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter and instantly transfer shots to a compatible smartphone or tablet, then upload them to the web, send by email or text—share them however you like. With Nikon's free Wireless Mobile Utility installed on your smartphone or tablet (available for both Android and iOS), you can also remotely control the D7100. Use your phone or tablet as a Live View monitor to take shots without having the camera in your hands, a huge advantage for everything from self portraits to digiscoping with a Nikon fieldscope
  • Dazzling 1080p videos, slow-motion and time-lapse sequences
With full-time autofocus and manual exposure control during video recording, a built-in stereo mic and an external stereo mic jack, headphone and HDMI jacks, the D7100 achieves exceptional cinematic reproduction and quality. Record in several high-definition formats: 1080p at 60i/50i/30/25/24 fps or 720p at up to 60p for ultra-smooth slow-motion sequences. Dual SD card slots give you additional recording time, and an all new 60i function enables smooth playback on HDTVs or external monitors. And, of course, every shot looks great through a NIKKOR lens. Create beautiful background blur with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G, or use the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm for an ultra-wide-angle view that's perfect for establishing shots and working in tight interiors
  • Creativity on demand
The D7100 will inspire your creativity to new heights. Built-in HDR (High Dynamic Range) combines shots taken simultaneously at different exposures into one beautifully rich, high-contrast image. Picture Control gives you instant access to the color characteristics of your images, and spot White Balance control for Live View shooting makes setting the white balance as easy as pointing to the area in the frame that should be white. You can even apply artistic Image Effects to both stills and videos in real-time
  • High-end design
The D7100 has the comfortable handling and durability of a high-end Nikon camera. A durable magnesium alloy body with moisture and dust resistance protects the camera's internal parts from the elements. A new 3.2-inch ultra-high-resolution 1,229K-dot LCD monitor provides crisp image playback, menu adjustments and Live View shooting, and a new viewfinder with a low-power consumption electro-luminescent (EL) data display provides approx. 100% frame coverage

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

Just bought in it, and took some fall color pictures, Like Video and duel slot for SD cards, Takes HDR shots without and editing. Had D7000 and I am very impressed with results with it, used in Africa safari great results. So desided to get D7100 with all new features which were missing in D7000. Excellent camera, I will recommend anyone to get it.

Incredible Value

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

I am in love with this camera. It suits many of my everyday recreational needs and most professional needs. I have had it for quite a while and put some decent mileage on it and have been very happy with it's performance. I have not had one problem with losing photos (probably because my cards get formatted to the particular camera they are being used in at that time). The focus is spot on with all of the lenses I use with this camera. The controls are very easy to access. Picture quality is incredible. I have used this camera to shoot some paid gigs. This camera is incredible and is definitely worth buying no matter who you are. It will can handle just about anything you can throw at it, producing great shots and being very durable. Most of my shoots are deep in the wilderness accessible only by technical biking or hiking and it has seen a lot and is still kicking. It is a wonderful camera and is a great step toward a FX body while you are still trying to buy the pro level lenses.

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

I decided to purchase the D7100 as my first DSLR and I feel I could not have chosen a better system, having never owned a DSLR before this one I can honestly say it doesn't take that long to get use to and would be a great camera for anyone looking to buy their first DSLR as I did. It is incredible just how much this camera offers for such a reasonable price.

D7100 is great! watch all of the speedy large MP cameras though, the card speed matters...

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

I'm not sure if there are any drawbacks on buying refurbished, but I would think a refurbished would be better risk than a used camera from individual user. Nikon repair facilities are the best and I've know folks who sent product elsewhere with "can't be fixed" diagnosis. ONLY to have Nikon USA repair it completely! Hard lesson... double shipping costs and in one case double REPAIR LABOR... NIKON is best. One risk of buying used, is unknowingly getting a gray market product. Products not imported into your country by your local Nikon arm: in the USA, that's Nikon USA. Repairs may need to be sent back to the area of origin... or you lose the option of the official Nikon repair facilities. I read complaints about the FPS and wanted to give something to think about: the speed of the card affects the time needed process frames to the card... I like the Delkin Devices 600x cards - -that's 45 MB per second WRITE to card speed! Lexar and SanDisk also have fast cards. they cost more but worth it. When we try up write to card faster than the card can receive info, the buffer comes into play... and if really slow WRITE speed, the camera may have to STOP shooting at all until the buffer has space. MUCH better to use a card fast enough to keep up with your shooting. IF RAW or Large Fine on 24MP resolution, those are BIG files.

A Very Solid DSLR

By Nathan

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

Amazing Camera, going to just list some of the strong points. -Insanely awesome and useful 51 point AF grid (this is the same amount as the very high end cameras, also D7000 only has a 39 point) -Great User Interface-When in M shooting, you can change shutter speed, aperture, ISO, image size, image quality, white balance, and metering...all without going into any menus or even looking at the LCD screen. D3000/5000 series would require you to go into menus/use the LCD. -Very useful "Pv" button allowing you to make the shutter go to the specific F-stop without taking a picture to preview the effects of the aperture (will let you preview how much bokeh you have). -Sturdy and reliable. -Sharp images. -Slots for 2 SD cards. -6 FPS (7 in DX-crop) should be highly sufficient. -Great for video in addition to stills -Battery extender pack available (MB-D15), makes camera look even more cool as well as increased ease of portrait shots and extra dials, etc. -18-140 "kit lens" is a very reliable lens, that is great for landscapes and general purposes I've had no real problems besides it twice telling me a memory card error in which case I had to just remove the card and re insert it to fix it (no pictures lost). I would recommend, you get a whole lot for this pretty reasonable price.

This is a big step for me from the D3100 and it seams as though the D7100 has much more capability, control and makes for cleaner shots. Nikon Rocks! :)

Awesome camera for a beginner

By NIkonEd

from Chino Hills, California

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

Shopping for a DSLR camera took me about two years to decide because I was researching constantly by reading others reviews, looking at photography forums, and checking photography videos through Youtube. I want my first DSLR buy to be a good buy as I'll be investing my sweat and blood on it. In the beginning I was leaning towards a Canon EOS until that one faithful day that I went a local camera shop. I was told by the shop's owner not to go just by specs alone, and reviews. Go by your feeling. Grab a camera check how it feels on your hands. So I grabbed a couple of cameras and tried them. When I grabbed the Nikon D7100, that's when the "wow" effect kicked in. I liked the way it feels, it's light weight, the buttons are all well placed that they're easy to access, and most of all they are user friendly and very straight forward to use. I'm just a beginner learning the ropes. This camera takes gorgeous pictures. Colors are rich, vibrant, and warm. Most of all the photos are sharp I could see the details. This camera is awesome! The only draw back I noticed it the burst shots. If I leave the settings running on full DX and RAW mode, the FPS goes down and starts to buffer. Changing the setting to 1/3 crop increases the FPS, however the buffering still remains. It'll be nice if Nikon can update the firmware to take out the buffering, but it's no biggie for me as I like taking photos of landscape s and portraits. If you're a beginner/amateur like me, go with what you like and feels right on your hands....in my case the Nikon fits the bill.

Amazing photographs at a wonderful price!

By BenT

Comments about Nikon Digital Camera With 18-105mm VR Lens Kit:

I purchased this camera as an upgrade to my Nikon D3300. I had originally purchased the D3300 with the thought that "hey, this is probably all I'll ever need". Well, to put it bluntly, I was wrong. Using the D3300 I started up a little photo business of my own, and things took off! I quickly realized that I'd need something better.. but something that was truly affordable! The D7100 has met and surpassed all the needs that I, and my customers, had. I have to say I am very impressed by the level of detail this camera can achieve. I am SO happy with this purchase and feel that THIS is the camera that I can hold on to for a while!
