The plastic button that is used to cover the screw fitting for the door handle on the unused side of the door was either defective or broken by the installers. The dealer has been promising to replace it and said that he ordered the part, but two months later, we still have an exposed screw fitting and no plug for it.

So we bought this item sight unseen as the store didn't carry it (we were limited on models due to cabinet opening). When it was delivery we were pleased with the aesthetics of the unit. Fit our opening perfectly and we like the look and feel. The one slight issue my wife had is that the top of the refrigerator section space is lower than our previous so she finds herself bending over more. However, the lovefest was over after the first night of running. This unit is loud! It sounded like a small generator when the compressor kicked in. The sounds seemed to be coming from the chute that cold air comes out of in the back of the freezer. Pressing on it muffled the sounds a bit. So I tried to put some wedges in the sides of it to isolate the chute. No luck. We called and scheduled a service visit. At first they referred us to the GE video of what sounds to expect, which we had already researched and found. The repairman called my wife ahead for model number - so he could bring the right "noise kit" (fan assembly and ???). The fact they have noise kits should be a clue to them that they have a design flaw with these units! Anyway he showed up and replace the fan. He asked my wife if I had tried fix/look at anything (nope) as he noticed a few loose screws and the thermostat was also loose. He tightened them as part of the repair/replacement. Finally the unit doesn't sound like a generator. It is NOT a quiet fridge by any means but after a couple of weeks of noise, we do have some relief. I have given the product a 3 star rating. If it were quieter and we didn't have issues straight out of the box, I would have given it a 4. Overall we can live with the unit, but is seems overpriced (comparatively) for the quality. PS - I forgot this but we also had an issue with the temperature knob in the refrigerator section that sits at the top of the opening. It arrived very loose and we found the slightest of taps would change the setting and thus the temps would fluctuate within the unit. The repairman had to do something to tighten that knob up so it wasn't as susceptible to change.

Lacks freezer light & inconvenient storage options

Comments about GE CleanSteel Top-Freezer Refrigerator:
Biggest problem is no freezer light - never asked because assumed there was one. Placement of shelves is annoying - especially since I have to do a lot of stuff to change them. I purchased this fridge because I want a top freezer. Would like to know if an option exists to add a light to freezer.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It is Ok, but too noisy. The freeze door will not auto close tightly.

I should have listened to the reviews. The refrigerator looks great, but the freezer frosts over and causes the fan to make very loud buzzing sounds. I may need to return it because the sound is so loud that I can't ignore it.

Nice looking, but utter junk
from Boston, MA, United States
Awful fridge. The look and feel are great. However it is a piece of junk. Right from the get-go it runs very LOUD! After several service visits it has sort of stablized. Still somewhat noisy - beginning to learn to live with it. Freezer sometimes frosts up. A complete lemon of a product. Also noticed a trim piece on the inside has come loose. Repair man also warned of not putting heavy things on freezer door shelves as it is "cheap plastic" and will break. You've been warned.
