Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 20.4 Megapixel Black Digital Camera, Model DSCHX300B

Get professional-looking results with this advanced yet user-friendly high-zoom camera. The Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-HX300/B features massive 50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image digital zoom technology for awesome close-ups. Every detail will be crisp and clear—even when zoomed in all the way—thanks to top-notch Optical SteadyShot image stabilization technology and the camera's powerful processor. The 20.4MP Exmor R CMOS image sensor delivers stunning, high-resolution photos and gorgeous Full HD videos even in challenging low-light conditions. Better yet, with so many pixels you'll be able to enlarge, zoom in and crop your photos for frame-worthy mementos of every special occasion.

Key Features

  • 20.4 megapixels
  • 50x optical zoom
  • 100x Clear Image zoom
  • Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization with 3-way Active Mode
  • AVCHD™ 1080/60p Full HD video
  • 3.0" tiltable LCD
  • Up to 10 fps

Features

50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image Digital Zoom
Get amazingly close with 50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image digital zoom. Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom doubles optical zoom for closer photos.

Full HD 1080/60p
Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080 AVCHD™ video.¹ This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HD TV.2 With dual record of stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time.

Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization
Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization reduces shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions.³ Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that counters clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, resulting in more stable videos even at long focal lengths. The HX300 uses a second lens group shift which moves the lens group farther away from the sensor. This results in an expanded compensation area, allowing for easier framing.

Capture the decisive moment with up to 10fps
Capture full 20.4 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, a mechanical shutter helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.

20.4 Megapixel Back-illuminated Exmor® R CMOS Image Sensor
This camera features a 20.4 megapixel Exmor® R CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined Exmor® R CMOS sensor and BIONZ® image processor delivers extremely fast up to 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 1080p movie modes.

I got this a few days ago. It is my 5th Sony. It is very easy to use and has incredible features. I purchased the Canon Cybershot 50X 2 weeks ago to compare the 2. Without a doubt the Sony is much more user friendly. Similar features, panorama and effects. The Sony has more and they are easier to use. The zoom goes digital as well up to 200X. I thought it was listed 50X opt and 100X dig, so good news. Certainly larger and heavier than Canon. Have to be careful with shutter button, it is very light touch and you may take a photo while trying to focus by mistake. The zoom not as fast as other Sonys. Now for the sad news, the zoom ( image ) on the Canon is better at the higher magnifications, 50x, 100x and 200x. Regular shots,Sony is excellent. I bought this to take shots of birds and the focus and clarity is just not there.Macro, flawless. Do not know what to do, thought I was a Sony customer for life. I do use a Canon T4i for portraits but wanted a quick 50X for the wildlife. I am shooting the 2 side by side hoping the Sony will win.

why still the image sensor is so small, replace it with that of RX100. several features were excluded from its previous model ie dsc hx200v, i want every feature to be included in it.if this is done it would be the best combination of dslr and point-shoot camera in the market - for professionals as well as beginners.

Decent super zoom, but hard to focus at full zoom

By

from Bellingham, WA, USA

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

I owned this camera for 3 years and finally sold it. Decent pictures, good stabilizer, but VERY hard to focus shots at full zoom. It's also slow to recover between shots. I finally gave up and moved on.

Great Cross-over

By

from 99208

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

The Sony HX300 is a great option for someone wanting the convenience of a point-and-shoot while being able to make some creative adjustments found on DSLRs. The telephoto reach is amazing. When fully zoomed, I was able to get shots of two climbers on the top of Smith Rock in Oregon from a distance at which I could barely see them with the naked eye. Had I personally know the climbers, I would have been able to identify them by viewing their faces in the photo.

Verstile camera, confusing software

By

from 53151

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

The wide range zoom lets you use a single unit for the vast majority of pictures. Adding a simple filter obscures the edges of the frame at wide angles. The download software is confusing. It is easier to remove the data card and download through Canon software. Excellent battery life.

We're pleased

By

from 34491

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

Purchased this camera for taking pictures at our quilt guild. There are 2-3 people who use the camera regularly. Learning curve was minimal. I do the editing of the photos prior to posting onto a public website and for members to look at. With prior, worn-out camera, I spent time making color & lighting corrections on nearly every photo. I have had to do that with only 2 of nearly 100 pictures taken. Very pleased with detail that is shown. Would have been a better accessory package if they included a full-sized tripod instead of the table mount and the useless (to us) even smaller one.

Meets my needs

By

from 12159

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

This camera was first used on a birding trip to Colombia. Prior cameras did not do well in low light levels found in the forest. This camera did well on cloudy days and in the low light levels of the forest. The zoom allowed me to get good images of fairly distant birds in open country. Close images of flowers and non birds were good. On the down side the camera is a bit bulky and takes time to transition from one event to the next.
