Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 20.4 Megapixel Black Digital Camera, Model DSCHX300B

Get professional-looking results with this advanced yet user-friendly high-zoom camera. The Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-HX300/B features massive 50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image digital zoom technology for awesome close-ups. Every detail will be crisp and clear—even when zoomed in all the way—thanks to top-notch Optical SteadyShot image stabilization technology and the camera's powerful processor. The 20.4MP Exmor R CMOS image sensor delivers stunning, high-resolution photos and gorgeous Full HD videos even in challenging low-light conditions. Better yet, with so many pixels you'll be able to enlarge, zoom in and crop your photos for frame-worthy mementos of every special occasion.

Key Features

  • 20.4 megapixels
  • 50x optical zoom
  • 100x Clear Image zoom
  • Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization with 3-way Active Mode
  • AVCHD™ 1080/60p Full HD video
  • 3.0" tiltable LCD
  • Up to 10 fps

Features

50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image Digital Zoom
Get amazingly close with 50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image digital zoom. Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom doubles optical zoom for closer photos.

Full HD 1080/60p
Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080 AVCHD™ video.¹ This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HD TV.2 With dual record of stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time.

Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization
Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization reduces shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions.³ Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that counters clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, resulting in more stable videos even at long focal lengths. The HX300 uses a second lens group shift which moves the lens group farther away from the sensor. This results in an expanded compensation area, allowing for easier framing.

Capture the decisive moment with up to 10fps
Capture full 20.4 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, a mechanical shutter helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.

20.4 Megapixel Back-illuminated Exmor® R CMOS Image Sensor
This camera features a 20.4 megapixel Exmor® R CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined Exmor® R CMOS sensor and BIONZ® image processor delivers extremely fast up to 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 1080p movie modes.

I got this a few days ago. It is my 5th Sony. It is very easy to use and has incredible features. I purchased the Canon Cybershot 50X 2 weeks ago to compare the 2. Without a doubt the Sony is much more user friendly. Similar features, panorama and effects. The Sony has more and they are easier to use. The zoom goes digital as well up to 200X. I thought it was listed 50X opt and 100X dig, so good news. Certainly larger and heavier than Canon. Have to be careful with shutter button, it is very light touch and you may take a photo while trying to focus by mistake. The zoom not as fast as other Sonys. Now for the sad news, the zoom ( image ) on the Canon is better at the higher magnifications, 50x, 100x and 200x. Regular shots,Sony is excellent. I bought this to take shots of birds and the focus and clarity is just not there.Macro, flawless. Do not know what to do, thought I was a Sony customer for life. I do use a Canon T4i for portraits but wanted a quick 50X for the wildlife. I am shooting the 2 side by side hoping the Sony will win.

why still the image sensor is so small, replace it with that of RX100. several features were excluded from its previous model ie dsc hx200v, i want every feature to be included in it.if this is done it would be the best combination of dslr and point-shoot camera in the market - for professionals as well as beginners.

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

The LCD viewer is right in line with the lens, as opposed to other cameras where the LCD has to be swung to the side, which is awkward.

One thing that is not so great about this camera is that the flash has to be opened. Once you have lifted the flash into position, the camera decides whether it needs additional light or not.

    Service and delivery comments:

My original battery charger did not work. An Abt employee dropped off a replacement to my home on his way home from work. Great customer service!

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

I use the camera for travel and family pictures. It's far more complicated than the Sony Cyber-Shot I used to have. It has features that I will probably never use.

    Service and delivery comments:

I need to go to an Abt photography class to find out how to use or get the benefit of the many features this camera has. It's more complicated than I need, and I still don't know how to get flash automatically, or to be able to use the through the lens viewfinder.
I admit that I have not read the instruction manual, which I will do next

Very good in low light. Processing speed seems slow. Lens cover should be tethered. Very user friendly with good on screen description of each function. Zoom works great but hard to follow a moving object at high zoom. Going on safari and expect this will work very well with the 50x zoom.

Bought the camera because of a vacation and the places we were going. It performed well above what I expected of it and would recommend it to anyone needing a versatile camera...It's lens would allow shots of the Grand Canyon at it's widest as well as close-ups from the rim of the Colorado river at the bottom of the Canyon.. Very pleased with this Sony product.

        First Impressions

        By USAPatriot

        from Bryan, TX

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

(I've owned the HX100V for 2 years and have taken slightly more than 8,000 photos with it.) I JUST got the HX300B a few days ago and while I have yet to put it through it's paces, I'm so far amazed at how good this camera is. The zoom is amazing though I've not yet investigated this 100x aspect of it. At 50x I'm getting results as good or better than my HX100V at it's max of 30x. Crystal clear telephoto from a tripod...important...and the color is very close to actual. I played with a few of the features...such as watercolor...and found them interesting though not especially useful to me at this time. I did find that once I selected one of those special features, I was unable to undo it and shut it off without first shutting the camera off and then re-entering the menu system. I've not yet tried the video. The battery looks smallish, and I have an extra, but the specs imply that there's at least as much power as the battery of the HX100V, if not more. It would have been nice if the camera came with a harnessed lens cap. I'm not used to removing the cap and either having to palm it or pocket it. The HX100V allowed you to just remove the cap and drop it, attached to the strap, it wasn't going anywhere. Ergonomically, like all of the DSC's, this camera can't be beat, but once again, Sony manages to mess it up with a misplaced button. Somehow, they need to find a better place to put the power button, that or change the method of opening the battery/memory card hatch. A show of hands, please, for all who have turned the camera on accidentally while opening that hatch. And how many times? I thought so. Where to put it, then? How about where the MENU button is, then move the menu button back up where it was on the HX100V? If I had to buy this camera again, I certainly would. I've owned 5 cameras in 50 years: A Yashica 35mm SLR for 20 years, A Kodak DC210 was my first digital in roughly 1992, that I still have but may or may not work. After that, a Sony DSC-S60, which is still have and still works, a Sony HX100V, which I also still have and still works and now the Sony HX300B. If nothing else, I'm brand loyal, and will continue to be as long as the products give me good value for my money and accomplishes what I need them to accomplish.

I love my new Sony Cyber-Shot HX300/B. I am still using the auto shooting and getting great pictures...regular and zoom. It is so easy to use! I'm so glad that I saved up and got this camera. It is wonderful... Pat at Lake of the Ozarks :)

        Great Camera

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

My trusty old DSC H1 stopped working after 8 years. I had taken over 28,000 pictures with it. I bought the DSC HX300 and I am extremely satisfied with it. What a lens. Easy to use and I am having a great time taking pictures. Highly recommend this camera to anyone. Better than my DSLR. You don't have to change lenses to go from close into faraway shots. Rest in peace DSC H1.
