Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 20.4 Megapixel Black Digital Camera, Model DSCHX300B

Get professional-looking results with this advanced yet user-friendly high-zoom camera. The Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-HX300/B features massive 50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image digital zoom technology for awesome close-ups. Every detail will be crisp and clear—even when zoomed in all the way—thanks to top-notch Optical SteadyShot image stabilization technology and the camera's powerful processor. The 20.4MP Exmor R CMOS image sensor delivers stunning, high-resolution photos and gorgeous Full HD videos even in challenging low-light conditions. Better yet, with so many pixels you'll be able to enlarge, zoom in and crop your photos for frame-worthy mementos of every special occasion.

Key Features

  • 20.4 megapixels
  • 50x optical zoom
  • 100x Clear Image zoom
  • Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization with 3-way Active Mode
  • AVCHD™ 1080/60p Full HD video
  • 3.0" tiltable LCD
  • Up to 10 fps

Features

50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image Digital Zoom
Get amazingly close with 50x optical zoom plus 100x Clear Image digital zoom. Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom doubles optical zoom for closer photos.

Full HD 1080/60p
Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080 AVCHD™ video.¹ This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HD TV.2 With dual record of stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time.

Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization
Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization reduces shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions.³ Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that counters clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, resulting in more stable videos even at long focal lengths. The HX300 uses a second lens group shift which moves the lens group farther away from the sensor. This results in an expanded compensation area, allowing for easier framing.

Capture the decisive moment with up to 10fps
Capture full 20.4 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, a mechanical shutter helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.

20.4 Megapixel Back-illuminated Exmor® R CMOS Image Sensor
This camera features a 20.4 megapixel Exmor® R CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined Exmor® R CMOS sensor and BIONZ® image processor delivers extremely fast up to 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 1080p movie modes.

I got this a few days ago. It is my 5th Sony. It is very easy to use and has incredible features. I purchased the Canon Cybershot 50X 2 weeks ago to compare the 2. Without a doubt the Sony is much more user friendly. Similar features, panorama and effects. The Sony has more and they are easier to use. The zoom goes digital as well up to 200X. I thought it was listed 50X opt and 100X dig, so good news. Certainly larger and heavier than Canon. Have to be careful with shutter button, it is very light touch and you may take a photo while trying to focus by mistake. The zoom not as fast as other Sonys. Now for the sad news, the zoom ( image ) on the Canon is better at the higher magnifications, 50x, 100x and 200x. Regular shots,Sony is excellent. I bought this to take shots of birds and the focus and clarity is just not there.Macro, flawless. Do not know what to do, thought I was a Sony customer for life. I do use a Canon T4i for portraits but wanted a quick 50X for the wildlife. I am shooting the 2 side by side hoping the Sony will win.

why still the image sensor is so small, replace it with that of RX100. several features were excluded from its previous model ie dsc hx200v, i want every feature to be included in it.if this is done it would be the best combination of dslr and point-shoot camera in the market - for professionals as well as beginners.

    LOVE IT!!

    By

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

I had wanted to move up from point and shoot, but could not justify the expense of a DSLR for the amount of use I get from a camera. This camera has exceeded my expectations in EVERY way! While I have not had the camera very long, I am discovering new things it can do every day. The 50X zoom, combined with the Clear View Digital zoom is absolutely amazing. As I am a motorsports official, I plan to use it for lots of racing pictures, and the features the camera has will make the quality of images I can produce go up dramatically. This is going to be a camera that I use for many years to come.

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

The LCD viewer is right in line with the lens, as opposed to other cameras where the LCD has to be swung to the side, which is awkward.

One thing that is not so great about this camera is that the flash has to be opened. Once you have lifted the flash into position, the camera decides whether it needs additional light or not.

    Service and delivery comments:

My original battery charger did not work. An Abt employee dropped off a replacement to my home on his way home from work. Great customer service!

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

I use the camera for travel and family pictures. It's far more complicated than the Sony Cyber-Shot I used to have. It has features that I will probably never use.

    Service and delivery comments:

I need to go to an Abt photography class to find out how to use or get the benefit of the many features this camera has. It's more complicated than I need, and I still don't know how to get flash automatically, or to be able to use the through the lens viewfinder.
I admit that I have not read the instruction manual, which I will do next

Very good in low light. Processing speed seems slow. Lens cover should be tethered. Very user friendly with good on screen description of each function. Zoom works great but hard to follow a moving object at high zoom. Going on safari and expect this will work very well with the 50x zoom.

Bought the camera because of a vacation and the places we were going. It performed well above what I expected of it and would recommend it to anyone needing a versatile camera...It's lens would allow shots of the Grand Canyon at it's widest as well as close-ups from the rim of the Colorado river at the bottom of the Canyon.. Very pleased with this Sony product.

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

I haven't had this camera very long but like what I've seen so far. The zoom is incredible. I replaced an HX100 that I was quite happy with as well. I see the HX400 is on the horizon with some of the features that were left off the HX300 returning. Just a couple of pictures as an example how good the zoom is. Taken hand held...

The HX300 is an amazing value!

        By

        from Bathurst NB Canada

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot HX300 Black Digital Camera:

Overall, the DSC-HX300 is a stunning achievement for Sony. What attracted me was the 50x optical zoom (100x digital enhancement if desired) and the AVCHD movie capability. What convinced me to buy was a series of YouTube reviews by professionals and hobbyists raving about the many features of the camera from its image stabilization, 1200mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens, and its special effects provisions. Now that I've had a chance to test the camera in various environments from indoor low-light to outdoor snow storm conditions, I'm absolutely thrilled with my decision to buy. I could only be happier if the camera's accessories were a little more reasonably priced. The micro HDMI to HDMI cable is one example. If you're looking for a bridge camera (between a point and shoot and a DSLR) the HX300 is certainly one to consider. If you wanted to equip a DSLR to match the capabilities of this package, you'd have to spend hundreds, if not thousands more. Well done Sony!
