We've had this washer for less than 24hrs, but have done 5 loads of wash in that time (yes, laundry was piling up while we looked for a new machine).... and we're delighted with it! (So delighted, in fact, that I'm tempted to go door-to-door asking if I can do other people's wash.... I like watching it do its thing with the lid up, which is doable if you don't mind using a magnet to temporarily defeat the lid-open sensor.) It's mostly very quiet, although there are occasional pops & clicks which I suspect are normal and which don't especially bother or concern us.... but we'll hedge our bets anyway & buy an inexpensive 2-year warranty extension, just in case. The agitator works great! I'm reasonably sure that you can adjust the agitation intensity by choosing the appropriate settings / overrides, eg Colors, Delicates, Jeans, Hand wash, Soil, etc... We LOVE all the gee-gaws -- almost as entertaining as an ipad! The machine gives you a choice: (a) pick your cycle type plus preciseFILL and let the machine decide what to do, or (b) use the various overrides -- Soil, Temp, Spin, etc -- to decide for yourself the parameters of the wash program. We agree with all the positive reviews -- we've had it for only a very short time, but so far it seems like an excellent product, and way better than the 20-year-old model it's replacing!

Wanted to purchase a washer made in the USA. Hoped I was purchasing a washer that wouldn't spin the clothes to the point of permanently wrinkling them. The reviews I read were misleading because this machine spins so hard (even on the gentlest settings) that the wrinkles don't even come out in the dryer and forget hanging clothes up to dry, even ironing doesn't get the wrinkles out. The shiny metal tub of the washer is already showing water/mineral spots and it's only a few months old. They should have painted it the traditional enameled coating that wouldn't attract those mineral deposits. For the longest time after a wash load was over and emptied there was a powdery white substance left on the bottom of the tub. This powder settled all over the bottom of the tub and had to be wiped out after every load. The changing gear noises as the washer moves through its cycles are really loud and sounds like it's about to take off from my laundry room floor. I have stored my 25 year old washer & dryer (still working fine) in the garage just in case I can't stand this new washer and it's "new and improved HE" properties. Can't wait until they go back to the old technology that allows for slower spinning and adjusting the water depth. These properties might not be as energy efficient but your clothes turn out so much better and will last a lot longer because this new HE washer is spinning the life out my clothes. Wish I had bought a new washer/dryer 10 years ago before the manufacturers went HE.

I bought this washer 4 months ago and am very happy with it. I wanted a washer with an agitator. I did my homework and found this one. It lets my choose my water level, AND the top does not lock. Two very important items for me.

Not for everyone

This top load washer is not for everyone. If you are 5' or under you will not be able to retrieve your washed socks for other small item, if you loaded them in the bottom of your machine. The water level does not vary enough for different size loads. If it is in fact a water saver, the cycles run exceptionally longer then any other GE washer I have every had. Not a good choice for me.

Good washer but . . .
from Washington, DC, United States
We've had this washer for several months now, and on the plus side it does an excellent job of cleaning, and it has lots of useful features like a pre-soak cycle, capability of an extra rinse, and an automatic fill adjuster (it figures out how big your load is and fills the tub accordingly). We really like the top-loading feature and its ability to wash large items like quilts and blankets. The only downside is that with loads like a large quilt, the tub can become unbalanced during a spin cycle, causing the whole washer to rock like crazy and actually start to move across the floor. Since it looks like under these conditions it could pull out the hoses from their connectors, we had to install a safety switch that activates if the washer moves more than a foot or so. On the plus side, it doesn't have this problem at all with more normal loads, only with items like quilts and blankets, but really I would think that the designers would have built the machine with more ability to detect and respond to an out-of-balance load.

Liked my old one better, this was a gift. Next time I will have such a major gift returned.
auto water level
from Shullsburg, WI, United States
The auto water level seems to be saving us quite a bit of money each month. Our water and electric come on the same bill and went down $40.00 last month and another $20.00 this month. I can not account for any other reason the bill has changed so much. It has all come since we bought the washer.

I bought this washer and could not be happier. The options are awesome and numerous from precise fill to deep fill...quick was..heavy soil..etc. very large basin for comforter or just a lot of clothes in one load. The most important part of course is how clean are the clothed and they are perfect. I work in a warehouse and my clothes tend to get very dirty and every wash meets my expectations. I would highly recommend this washer to anyone.
