I needed a built-in microwave (countertop with custom built-in kit) for a 30-inch wide cabinet space. I also wanted a brand name that was known for reliability such as Whirlpool. Generally, I have a complaint that there is very little selection to chose from for built-ins. I would have paid a litttle more for a microwave with more features such as one-touch 1-min, 2-min, etc. time cooks. I was also a little disappointed with the fit and finish of this special order microwave through Lowes. There was a slightly bent side panel that you can see from the front and the door's top lines are not even/smooth with the panel area. Both of these were obviously factory defects that were not caught with quality checks. Additionally, even following the installation instructions to a tee, still left a noticeble gap (into the cabinet cavity) that is unsightly while the door is open. A better designed kit would have avoided this in my opinion.

We bought this microwave as a replacement for our old Whirlpool microwave. The old microwave had same capacity. It lasted us for 19 years. The new microwave looks okay, and is more powerful. However, the knob/button which you push to open the door is very hard. Its feel is very bad. The knob of the old microwave was far smoother to operate. Similarly, the feel of the touch control panel of the new microwave is also very bad, i.e. when you press a key it takes a while to register, and sometimes you have to push the keys hard. Lastly, the clock on the new microwave was losing about 4 to 5 minutes per day; so we had to replace it under the warranty. Overall the quality of the new microwave is far worse than the old 19 year old microwave by the same manufacturer.

"Great Capacity, Easy to use and Dependability"
By Joe B
from Orlando, Fl.
Comments about Whirlpool Stainless Steel Countertop Microwave:
After our old microwave, past on, we needed to replace it right away. Capacity, easy to use and dependability was our main concern. Last October, we replaced all our kitchen appliances, with the exception of the microwave, going from white Whirlpool to stainless steel Whirlpool. The new Whirlpool microwave, with stainless steel finish, fit right in, to complete our stylish, but very functional kitchen.

This is my 3rd 2.2 cu.ft.Whirlpool oven. The first lasted for 17 years. The second oven lasted for 1-1/2 years. I am not sure how long this 3rd one will last. There was very significant degradation of quality from the first to the second. Quality appears to be the same degraded quality from second to third. The only saving grace is Whirlpool 2.2 cu.ft. oven is the cheapest in its class. The trim (if you install it in a cabinet) is also the least expensive of them all. All original appliances in our house are Whirlpool. All of them have lasted 17+ years. But now I am not sure about the quality of the new Whirlpool products. What has changed at Whirlpool?

Quietly Heats up food in seconds!

I bought this microwave and installed it in place of our old 19 year old built-in Whirpool microwave. It was easy to install with the matching available Whirlpool trim kit. I am very pleased, so far, with how quietly it operates and how quickly it heats up leftovers. My wife loves it!

I had this pre-installed when I purchased new home

I have just replaced my previous microwave (a Whirlpool) that lasted something like 12 years and survived three large sons constantly microwaving everything that they ate. It just recently died but with that kind of reliability I felt that there was no other way to go but get another Whirlpool. Hopefully, now that they are out of the house, this one will survive for my retirement. I always value products that are well made and reliable.
Staying with Whirlpool

I switched to all Whirlpool appliances and perfectly satisfied with them all. I even upgraded to the largest microwave. Only regret is that I did not go stainless steel instead of black.
