This companion server to the XBR65 makes for some really excellent 4K images, although some of the pre-packed films do not look any better than the Blu-ray equivalent, so that is disappointing. The control of the server (from TV remote) is a bit sluggish in changing the screen image, and slow in getting the counter display for running time before it disappears from screen. The HDMI(1) carries video and audio and must be connected directly to the #4 input (modified on my) XBR. There is a second HDMI(2) for audio only, but selecting it removes audio from (1) ....so SONY if you build a TV with superior sound (which it has) why can't you make audio available at both HDMI outputs simultaneously? Is this something possible for a future update? Overall, the FMP X1 brings the 4K television full circle, now bring on the programming!

Sony needs to place a disclaimer on this product that it will not work out of box and you need to have a tech come to your house to replace something on the new xbr 4k series TVs. Completely incompatible and when I tried to hook up to my new denon 4k receiver it blew out one of my Hdmi connections on the back. I was excited to try finally true 4k content and now I have to wait two weeks to see if it will work. Just a warning for all who want to buy this for your 65-55 xbr 900s 4k TVs .

Comments about Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player:

While overpriced, required to watch 4k video. Requires direct LAN access, not wifi compatible. Long upload times, minimal storage, and overpriced digital download only. For the limited selection available, picture quality is outstanding.

Comments about Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player:

This is a great player. You need a fast internet connection, otherwise the load times can be painful. It is easy to set up. It has pretty good variety from Sony 4K and Video Unlimited. Just know 4k native films are hard to come by at present, but more to come. This player has many short clips that are impressive, but I would have liked to have 5 free 4K movies for the price. You need one if you want to enjoy your Sony 4K tv. I have a wireless accesspoint attached. Sony help desk did not know how to get me connected to wireless. They said it was not possible. You have to have an internet connection to use this device. It took me about 10 minutes, but I got it working. Sony help desk needs to re-train. All-in-all I give it 5 stars because the picture rocks and the player is very nice. A must have if you want quick access to all things 4K.

Comments about Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player:

Very good product once up and running, unfortunately their is significant challenges with HDMI conflicts. Had to replace all HDMI cables and even then had to remove devices to get it to work. Sony support very poor. I love their TVs and always get the latest but this device is not great and also very limited content.

          4k player hidden costs

          By MeNearDetroit

          from Detroit, MI

Comments about Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player:

While the picture quality is good, most movies cost $30. If your ISP meters your connection be sure to turn off the automatic downloads or you may be charged an overage fee too. The TV supports 3D but Netflix and Hulu have no content. I had to run out and rent one to test. Sony Video Unlimited should add 3D content. In my opinion a 4K movie should cost less than a theater ticket and a 3D movie should cost as much or less than a rental.

Worst purchase ever. Sony audio does not work.

Comments about Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player:

I have been working with Sony to get my pioneer sc71 receiver to work with the media box. I have this hooked up perfectly. When the hdmi port 2 is hooked to the receiver, the sound still comes out of tv and goes in and out. The few times that the receiver does get the sound, the sound goes in and out. No one from Sony knows what is going on.

          By Joe101

Comments about Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player:

Purchased along with my new 4k tv. TV was wall mounted, up and running in less than an hour. While trying to get the 4k player running, Sony installer was on phone with Sony mother ship for so long that his cell phone battery died. Installer left after about 90 minutes trying to set up 4k player and I was given an troubleshooting ref. number by Sony on phone and told to call back Monday to speak to higher level tech support. THREE HOURS later I solved the mystery. I have an ATT Uverse router to the wall. Netgear powerline ethernet from Uverse router to 4k player (14Mbps over powerline connection). Sony 55" 4k TV has wireless connection which installer hooked up to my wireless network running off an ASUS wireless router set up behind the Uverse router. 4k player will NOT run with TV and 4k player running off separate routers installed in series. When I moved powerline connection (4k player) to ASUS router it still did NOT work. So 4k player and TV on same router behind Uverse router does NOT work. On a whim, and dreading dealing with Sony level 3 tech support, I enabled the ATT Uverse router wireless networking and plugged the powerline into the Uverse router and all was good, 4k player worked and I was watching Bad Teacher in 4k! Sony tech support might want to confirm TV and 4k player are running off same router right off the bat. Their installer spent quit a bit of time at our house trying to get it going and the first 2 levels of tech support wasted a couple of hours. FYI I use the ASUS router for wifi because it is faster than the wifi that comes on the stock ATT uverse router. I would imagine that the folks who buy 4k TV's at this point, might not have your typical home network setup. Have been up and running a couple of days now and noticed 4k player was out at about 3am yesterday with 5xxx error message. Seems like you can't play 4k movies if the Sony network is down. 4k player seems to require constant connection with mother ship and will not operate as a stand alone. I guess that's why you guys in Korea can't bring the 4k player over there and get it running.
