I got this washer a few weeks ago, and I must say I was really shocked on how well it worked...a lot of reviews stated that the washer was loud I'm sorry they must have been talking about another model because I have it in my basement and I do not hear it run at all. I do like the fact that there is a place for all that you use in the washer such as soap or softener. I do have the gray or chrome model and I do have to wipe it down often but that is nothing it comes clean with one light passing of a damp rag . the controls are all touch you hardly have to touch the controls and they light right up and let you know what you have selected. With this model I can fit a lot of clothes in it without it bugging over loaded and they come clean and spin out very well. Another thing I have seen people complain about was the time it took for the washer to wash the clothes well its all on the settings you use a normal size load runs about 58 min and that is with me having the spin cycle on a faster spin. The longest would have been 1hour and 58 minutes and that is with pre soak bulky load with the steam cycle ...which was a kings size blanket...Now I'm about 5'4" and for some thing that are in the washer I do have to stand on my tippy toes to reach but even with the washer off you can turn the tub so that you are not reaching all the way to the back of the tub...that's a big plus for me. what I recommend to a friend course I will and after showing my mother how well this set works she is now buying one her self.

the machine does a fine job at getting the contents clean. my question is that our unit does make excessive ratcheting noise while agitating the clothes. Is this normal? we are concerned that this irregular noise is a sign of potential failure. we purchased the washer and dryer because they were advertised as quiet. the dryer lives up to this claim. the washer does not.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio White Top-Load Washer:
The reasons are simple. Great cost (because I caught a deal on a holiday), very efficient cleaning, no noise, and holds a lot of clothing. I really enjoy this brand of whirlpool and will never use any other brand for my washer and dryer.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After purchasing 5 Whirlpool appliances at the same time, including the Cabrio washer & dryer and writin a review regarding the noise during the wash cycle, I was contacted by a very nice person from Whirlpool Corp. who basically stated that this noise is a common noise and there is nothing that can be done regarding this noise. I am very sorry that I purchased these appliances and would tell everyone else to avoid this brand. This washer makes more noise than our older agitator model did.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Good so far
Had this for about a month and seems to be working well
Not your typical top load washer!

We've had this washer for a couple of months and are very satisfied. The only problem has come from the fact that I did not explain to my wife how unlike our previous top loader it was going to be: the salesman who demonstrated it also emphasized its advantages rather than its differences. Our previous washer had been her favorite of all the washers she's ever had. We glossed over the differences and, as she discovered them, she was not initially happy. For example, axiom one was that 'lots of water gets clothes cleaner'. She had heard us say this one saved water, but a 'tub without water' didn't seem like the way to go. I explained that it might be better to think of this washer is as a front loader that loads at the top. That approach seems to have helped both of us understand some of the differences. We have slowly worked through this and some similar issues (the cacophony of new sounds that are at best non-traditional for a washer are another good example). The gist of the matter to this point is that it gets clothes as clean as our previous washer; uses much less water, and seems to be gentler.
good unit, but not pleased with harshness to clothing
We bought this unit to match the dryer that we purchased. My wife likes the size of tub, controlss, and ease of use. Her complaint so far is "it is hard on clothes, I see wear on clothing that wasn't there before. It has even torn some buttons off my clothes".Again, it is too early to give an honest evaluation of quality or dependability after about 1 month ownership.
good machine; minimal water useage. excell capacity
i bought this washing machine and am happy.
I like it better now

I was in the audience of the Ellen show on March 3rd and we all received a Whirlpool washer and dryer. The dryer is great. To those of you experiencing a lot of noise, I would recommend that it NOT be on an overflow pan. They don't mention this anywhere. When I used the deep water cycle the basket dipped and ate into the plastic of the overflow pan. Whirlpool replaced the motor and it seems to be working fine. I am , however, afraid to use the deep water cycle. For the most part, it is a little noisy, but not as bad as it was. I have no idea how long it will last, but my last dryer (not washer) was a Whirlpool. I sold that and after 23 years there are still no problems with it. I'm confused about recommending this and wish the next category below gave me the option of "I don't know yet."
Huge Capacity/No more moldy front-loader for us

Love this washer! It fits so many clothes at once and does an excellent job. We will never have to use that disgusting, stinky, moldy front-loader washer again.
