Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera With EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens, Model EOS70D1855KIT

Changing the way users capture still images and video with a DSLR camera, Canon proudly introduces the EOS 70D - a trailblazing powerhouse featuring a revolutionary autofocus technology that unlocks the potential of Live View: Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This game-changing technology allows the EOS 70D to capture video in Live View with smooth and precise autofocus similar to that of a camcorder, complete with the superb image quality that is a hallmark of EOS cameras. Additionally, Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides fast and accurate autofocus during Live View still image capture, enabling you to fully benefit from the freedom of angle allowed by the Vari-angle Touch Screen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor II. Compositional options are now nearly limitless with the two real-world choices of Live View and viewfinder shooting. To further empower the photographer, Canon engineers spent months ensuring that the cutting-edge Dual Pixel CMOS AF on the EOS 70D is compatible with 103† Canon EF lenses, greatly expanding creative possibilities. Built-in wireless technology and the EOS Remote app* further enhance shooting versatility, as well as enable easy sharing. Brilliant image quality is provided by the EOS 70D's 20.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, a first for an EOS camera with an APS-C sized sensor. A powerful DIGIC 5+ Image Processor supports continuous shooting up to 7.0 frames per second, as well as an extended ISO range of 100-12800 (H: 25600) that allows shooting in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Stunning photos can be accomplished using the remarkable 19-point all cross-type AF system with a high precision dual cross f/2.8 center point, and advanced display options available on the Intelligent Viewfinder supply exceptional control. In-camera imaging features like HDR, HDR Backlight Control, Multiple Exposure, Handheld Night Scene, and Creative Filters available in real time help turn even simple images into spectacular photos. Elevating the possibilities of creative expression to extraordinary new heights, the powerful EOS 70D with Dual Pixel CMOS AF places the ability to capture both amazing stills and video right in your hands.

  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF
The EOS 70D features Canon's all-new Dual Pixel CMOS AF, a revolutionary leap forward in speed and accuracy that unlocks the potential of Live View shooting. This game-changing technology will forever change what is possible with a DSLR camera
  • Shoot Video Like a Camcorder
The benefits of the groundbreaking Dual Pixel CMOS AF are clearly evident in video shooting, where bringing scenes and subjects into focus is a critical element of the final composition. On the EOS 70D, Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps ensure focus is achieved naturally and precisely, even when switching between subjects. And, combined with the predictive power of Movie Servo AF, subjects in motion are smoothly and consistently tracked - once the EOS 70D locks focus, it doesn't let go. Plus, with the shallow depth-of-field afforded by EOS optics, your video gains a cinematic ambience
  • Compositional Freedom, Quick and Accurate Live View Focus
For stills, Dual Pixel CMOS AF makes Live View AF precise and faster than ever, freeing the photographer to take advantage of the freedom of angle afforded by the camera's Vari-angle LCD monitor. Crisp focus can be obtained nearly instantly across a wide shooting area, especially useful for those spontaneous or fleeting shots. And, when composing and shooting in Live View mode, the image, exposure and chosen effects can be previewed before shooting, ensuring better accuracy, increased comfort, and more control from the start
  • Compatible with 103† Canon EF Lenses
103† Canon EF lenses are able to fully realize the benefits of Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Compatible lenses greatly expand creative and compositional possibilities so users can enjoy a wide range of endeavors made possible through various lenses whether shooting still images or video
  • The Genius of Pixel Based AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a cutting-edge Canon technology, made possible by a sophisticated redesigning of the CMOS sensor. Traditionally, image sensors have one photodiode per pixel, but the CMOS sensor on the EOS 70D has two photodiodes per pixel, enabling each pixel on the sensor to both perform phase-difference detection autofocus and capture light - a first for EOS cameras. With phase-difference detection AF, autofocus is achieved quickly and easily on the camera. This unique AF system enables autofocus on 80% of the image plane, vertically and horizontally, and helps ensure virtually no loss in image quality
  • The simplicity and convenience of wireless technology, built-in
The new EOS 70D incorporates cutting edge wireless technology right into its compact design. The camera's exposure settings, such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, focus, and shutter can be operated wirelessly using an iOS or Android smartphone* with the free Canon EOS Remote app**. Using a smartphone with the EOS Remote app** installed, you can shoot remotely from a distance, even in Live View mode, for those difficult-to-capture shots; you can also review images on the EOS 70D without having to take it out of the bag, and easily transfer and save images directly from the camera to a smartphone. Full DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatibility means easy sharing between the EOS 70D and other DLNA products, like HDTVs, smartphones and more. Still images can even be transferred between two wireless-enabled Canon cameras over a Local Area Network (LAN). Images and video can be uploaded instantly to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY# for easy sharing on social networking sites, and photos can even be printed on a wireless PictBridge certified printer without the need for a PC. Remarkably, the EOS 70D has all of these wireless features without the need for any additional accessories; they're built right in!

If you are looking for an SLR to use for both stills and movies, this is it. Wait no longer. This will be a short review, since I've only had the camera for literally hours, but I'm so impressed with it. The movie mode, along with the dedicated button for that, is so good I can't think of a way to improve on it. I started my Canon journey with an ELAN 7 film camera years ago, went to a 10D digital. Was very happy with that, so next came the 40 D. Wonderful step up. Then upgraded to the 60D because I wanted to be able to use an SLR for movies. I was never really happy with the 60D for movies (wonderful for stills, though). Having to turn a dial to get into video mode was a pain, and the lack of autofocus turned out to be too much of a drawback to be practical FOR ME. Now comes the 70D! I'm in heaven! The ease of use is absolutely wonderful. Autofocus is incredibly fast and accurate for stills, and so smooth for video. Canon has hit a high mark with this camera. Right out of the box, I put on my most demanding lens, the 85mm F1.8. That lens has always given me fits to focus, since the depth of field is so small wide open. The 70D hits focus instantly and perfectly every time. I'm seriously impressed. I may never buy another camera. Bottom line, if you've been waiting for a camera for video and stills, wait no longer. It's that good.

This well-built camera following the 7D, with its breakthrough technology sensor, needs bugs fixed before I recommend anyone buying it. The autofocus system does not work as well as older camera models and the microadjustment tool does not help. The focus issue is a shame since Canon is known for its crisp, sharp images. The camera also has high noise levels and problems working at low ISO levels. Being a professional, I was very disappointed in the performance of this camera released by Canon to the public. I hope that a firmware upgrade might resolve some of these issues

70d is a great camera for the Average / Pro

from Orange, California

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

This is a quality camera for the advanced user. While it has many automatic modes to choose from, that work under a variety of lighting conditions, I prefer to use one of the manual modes for the ultimate photo. With lighting not always ideal I prefer setting a fixed Shutter, Aperture, with auto to manual ISO. I have two lenses which take care of every situation for me. Canon 24x70mm 2.8 & 70x200mm 2.8 lenses. My 70d simply takes amazing professional quality photos but if I wanted better I would try the 80d, 7d Mk II, or wait for the next 5d Mark IV. NOTE: when they come out with a model like the 7d Mark II features with a 28 or higher Megapixel, then you will see higher quality photos. I have been shooting with the 7d for 2 years now and it has been a great camera. I mainly shoot family, action, safari park in escondido, ca, and sports. Also enjoy night shots on the tripod. Yes... a great choice

Don't buy this unless you just want a video camera

from Niagara Falls, NY, United States

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

I purchased this as an upgrade for my t4i after i started taking photos I noticed that the pictures are not quite in focus. You can't tell on the small screen on the camera that you missed the shot.Apparently these are good for video but NOT stills I had it checked out and all they could say was there is nothing wrong.

Top Performer!

from Fairfax, VA, United States

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

I've been an avid videographer for a few years and I've been shooting cam. My nephew suggested I get into DSLR. So I figured why not?! I used the 70D primarily for shooting film. And I am in love with this gear. My main glass is the Sigma 18-35mm and this is truly a match made in heaven! I've done some stills and have been equally impressed. There really is no need to get another piece of gear unless it has 4K capability!

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

I just received this cameras and used it for the first time at my son's wrestling tournament. The photos are so clear and the speed awesome. This was an upgrade for me from the rebel t3i which I like a lot but no comparison to the 70d. I am so happy I decided to upgrade. Photography is my hobby and canon is so easy to work. I have used canon for several years and love it.

Great value, great pictures & video

from Albuquerque, NM, United States

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

I have had a Canon Rebel and two Canon 20D's in the past. It was time to upgrade to go along with my Canon L Lens and a great Tamron 28-75 DI lens that take outstanding pictures. Santa (wife) got me for Christmas and I could not be happier! Great build quality, great features, and quality product! Love this camera!

Great camera for stills and video.

from Maryville, TN

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

I bought this camera with a Pro-10 printer bundle deal Nov. 2013. It's quite an improvement over the 60D (See my review of 60D) feature wise. Image quality is a little better but the 19 point AF and dual pixel AF is a big improvement. Then throw in 7 frames a second and you have a nice camera for wildlife and sports. It has a flip out screen like the 60D but it's a touch screen. This is more useful than you might think. I'll explain.... Touch a point on the screen in live view to focus on it and when shooting video you can do this and rack focus between far and near objects very smoothly and silently when using the new STM lenses. Touch Shutter is another feature that I really like and use. Basically you just touch the screen to focus and trip the shutter or just trip the shutter if you are focussing manually. This can be very handy if using a tripod or propped on something to minimizing camera shake without having to use the self timer or remote. It's takes only a very very light touch and you can increase the touch sensitivity in the menu. The 7D MKII cannot do this and a few other things that require a touch screen and is why I won't be upgrading to it. It's that useful to me. Lots of RAW and jpg options. Has the usual Canon Scene menu and presets plus make your own. You can repurpose the most of the buttons on the back. Multiple exposure and in body HDR are options the 60D lacks. The some buttons on the back are in different locations than the 60D. The mode select knob doesn't have the scene selections like the 60D and doesn't stop at the ends either. The selector wheel at the top of the grip and the one on the back are quieter than the 60D also. Likely because of video use. It has WiFi which can be very useful for remote controlling the camera and downloading and viewing photos. There are lots of WiFi options but it can be a bit confusing to first set up. You can have multiple set ups for different devices.... I think. I'm pretty sure you can.. ;-) And autofocus micro adjustment for up to 20 lenses. This only applies to the 19 point AF and not to the DPAF.

CMOS sencor dead in less than two years

from Undisclosed

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

Bought the 70d in Nov 2013. The CMOS sensor died in Oct 2015 after regular use for a hobby camera. Sent it to the factory service center and received a high estimate for repair. Had to discard the camera. Lost confidence in the quality of this product.

Great Camera

from Portland, Or

Comments about Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with WiFi:

I purchased this camera as a replacement to my Canon 4D, which was stolen. Luckily my lenses were not with the 4d. The 70d is a great camera. Four features really stand out. The WiFi is a great addition. Touch screen and one touch focus lock is amazing. Just a few days ago , using that I took a pic of the Blue Angels going 500mph and it was crystal clear. Third is the flip out screen. I am 6'3" and can use on a lowered tripod and have a great view of the screen. The ultimate feature on this camera is the screen. The fact that the screen shows the picture you will take not what you see through the viewfinder. As you adjust ISO, Shutter speed or aperture the screen shows what the pic will look like. This feature alone makes this a great camera at a great price. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who is amateur to intermediate as it makes advancing your skills much easier.
