The range is solidly built and looks fantastic, however care must be taken with the knobs. They are easily turned on, not so far as to ignite but far enough to release gas, when reaching for something on a back burner, operating the oven controls or merely rubbing against them when walking by. My previous range was 30 years old so I am still adjusting to electronic ignition vs. standing pilot lights and the various burners sizes and the need to match pot/pan size to burner size. Most modern ranges have this sort of configuration, however I am not yet convinced it is better. The burners tend to heat from the outside, as opposed to my old range which heated from the middle. It took me 40 minutes to cook 1 lb of pasta in a pot I normally used on the power burner, but then realized I needed a bigger pot for that burner. I used a huge stock pot instead and it was on a par with my old range - 20 minutes from turning the water on to draining the pasta. This is a clear indication that the heat is concentrated on the edges of the cookware instead of the center. The oven has worked extremely well, seems to be temperature-accurate and bakes evenly. A 9-inch double layer cake baked in exactly 35 minutes to perfection. I have not yet evaluated the convection option. Broiling must be done on the upper most rack position. Some broiling instructions in the guide indicate using the top or second from the top, however a steak cooked on the second from the top merely baked and did not broil until I moved it to the top position. The grates are extremely heavy and have a fantastic commercial look and is one of the primary reasons I chose this range over a similar competitor's model. I particularly like that the included griddle/grill (of extremely high quality seasoned cast iron) interchanges with the center grate to create a seamless look. Again, the setting recommendations in the guide had to be altered. At high, 1-1/2 lbs of boneless chicken breasts, pounded to an even 1" thickness, cooked perfectly in 16 minutes. The stove remains cool during cooking, so much so that I had to question whether or not the oven was actually hot enough when baking and broiling. The range does emit a lot of fumes during self-cleaning mode and requires significant ventialltion beyond the range hood. All in all, this appears to be a very solid and well-built range.

We bought a JB640DRWW to replace our 15-year-old GE JBP75, a very similar model which we were very happy with. Based on online reviews, we opted for this model, but now that it's here, we've come across some design flaws that weren't evident online. Beeper volume: The oven timer's beep is so soft it can only be heard from the kitchen. This pretty much defeats the purpose of having a timer - I set the timer so I can leave the kitchen and be reminded when it's time to come back and stir the spaghetti sauce. The 15-year-old oven's beeper had a good volume level - not too loud, not too soft. Oven light: the oven light only comes on when I manually push the button on the control panel. Opening the oven door does not automatically turn on the light. The 15-year-old oven's light - indeed, every other oven light I've ever seen - came on whenever the door was opened. "Hidden bake element": my mistake here; I thought this oven didn't have the hidden lower bake element. This is a feature I could do without. We're not messy bakers; we only needed to clean the old oven two or three times a year, so ease of cleaning isn't a big selling point. Quick heat-up time, however, is, and with the hidden bake element, it takes a looooooong time to pre-heat the oven. 15-year-old oven? Used to heat up nice and quick. Control panel: Why buttons instead of a dial? With the oven dial on the 15-year-old oven, it was a quick task to set the oven to 350 degrees, or 425, or even 175 if I just wanted to keep some food warm. With the push-button method, getting to 350 is easy, but setting it to 175 means one press of the "bake" button, then 15 seconds of mashing my thumb down on the "temp minus" button. Tedious! It's frustrating. All in all, I love the smooth, glass-top stove and the dual-size burner and the ease of cleaning both the cooktop and the oven. It cooks well and I'm hoping it lasts at least as long as its predecessor. But in terms of user interface design? Come on, GE, you had it right fifteen years ago! Why did you decide to use those intervening years to make your user interface WORSE?

Back does not fit flush against the wall. No opening for the plug at a different location.knob panel is not fully closed.Burner tray does not cover openings on knob panel.Tray panel has openings at rear.Drawer pull not deep enough and not heavy enough, also slides are very weak and hard to remove and install.

Love all except the bottom drawer. It does not slide out easily if pulled out any more than half way. Dumb design for this model.

Love this range!

from West Point, IA, United States

Our gas stove blew up and we went back to electric. This is the best stove/oven we have ever had! So many features and it works better and faster than the gas stove did at boiling water even! The warming burner is awesome and helps save time with cooking multiple food items!
