This is my first glass top and I am still on the learning curve. Maintaining a clean glass top is more effort than I expected. The look of the glass top is very nice, but it is a little annoying to have to polish the top. The following are some thoughts about this product. 1. Heating water to a boil takes longer than I would have expected. The reason is (paraphrasing here) that you don't want to overheat the glass and it therefore cycles on and off. I will get used to it, but can take 20 minutes to heat a couple quarts of water. My guess is that this is standard for regular glass top stoves. 2. Lots of room on the stove surface. Easy to fit a variety of pots on the stove at one time. 3. Dials are clear with a light for each side of stove that is being used. 4. Slightly curved shelf at the very top of the stove does not allow you to put anything (salt and pepper) over the cooking top. You don't want to drop anything really solid as the glass top is, obviously, glass. 5. The oven has three racks that are coated and can be left in the oven when self cleaning. These racks are ceramic gray coated and can be cleaned this way. They do have to be oiled afterwards because they can stick and work awkwardly after a self clean. This info is buried in the manual, but eventually found it. 6. Convection in the oven seems to work nicely. Whole chicken has crisp skin and looks and tastes good. 7. Baked goods turn out nicely and don't have to rotate sheets of cookies to get even browning/cooking. 8. The price vs features was very good. This product is obviously not a top end range. It is missing some of the features of the top end but it is also missing that price tag. 9. Drawer at bottom is storage and seems as spacious as previous stove although the oven is bigger than previous stove.

At first I loved the look of this stove. It sat in my kitchen and was a beauty to behold. So bright, so shiny. Smooth top and all the stainless steel gleaming, but... Trouble awaited! The glass (smooth) top was a nightmare to manage and maintain. It scratched like you think glass would, and was easily marred with the most basic cooking uses. There are a bunch of rules that go along with using a smooth-top range which I could not reconcile with regular cooking habits. I cleaned the top with the recommended cleaner 5-8 times a week to no avail. It drove me nuts, as I do most of the stove-top cooking, and it made my wife phobic when she used it since the scratches could be permanent. The way I understand this top, it's essentially the same kind of hardened glass as you have on your car's windshield. Yeah. Imagine taking your pots and pans, good and bad, and scrubbing them across the front window of your car. Not a pretty mental picture, is it? That's basically what you have with these smooth-top stoves. I have a set of non-stick pans, which I use regularly, and are the height of anodized non-stick and even those were touch and go. Even the restaurant-quality aluminum made me nervous, clean as they day I got them, and I picked them up every time I moved them to avoid the possibility of scratches. Forget about your cast iron. The pans may last generations, but they can't be used on this stove top. The convection oven? Nah. Wasn't spectacular enough to overcome the top. In the end, I returned this stove and found the exact same thing from the same company, minus the convection and the glass top, and am happy as can be. No trouble, no worrying about the right pans or scratches (I can keep my cast iron) and all the beauty of the design to boot. My tech said that manufactures are looking make all stoves smooth top within the next 5 yrs. Same flawed, car windshield technology and all. A serious shame for those of us who cook on electric. I don't want to be phobic when I cook. Do you?

Everything burns

If you want to simmer anything on this stove forget it. The only large burner is a power boil and it boils everything even on low Noticed it's no longer being made, doesn't surprise me

Brought the Range last week because of the quality of the GE products. I also have a GE Refrigerator that I love.

Love the oven !!

By

from NC

We purchased all GE appliances for our kitchen, and all are lovely. We chose this range because the stove top had a ridge around all four sides just in case I spilled-over while I was cooking. Good choice, because it has already happened. I absolutely LOVE the oven. It heats up quickly and cooks EVENLY. Love it. The only reason it doesn't get all 5 stars, is the glass cook top, which has nothing to do with GE. I'm sure all are the same. I find it very hard to keep clean. Very attractive, but hard to clean if you splatter anything while cooking.

Matches kitchen decor

All the features we wanted. However, top does not wipe up well after use. My wife is forever having to use a stove top cleaner to remove spills from overflowing pots. With our previous stove we only used the cleaner about every other month.

Easy to use and everything cooks perfectly. The convection oven makes cooking so much faster and the appearance of the cooked food is fabulous.

Consumer Reports Best Choice!

By

from Charleston, SC, United States

We have been using this range for about a month. Consumer reports rated it over all best in all categories tested. They were spot on about their findings. We love how it performs on the cook top surface as well as the oven function. We have not used the self clean feature but consumer reports says it was rated best. I believe them ! Two thumbs up !!!!
