I bought this Maytag November 2013 when my first Maytag died after 22 years of faithful service. I always wanted a front-loader, but my repairman (whom I've trusted implicitly for the last 9 years) recommended against it (his wife has one and he's constantly fixing the seals on it). It took a leap of faith to get used to the low water usage, but I'm okay with it now. The clothes come out just as clean as with a fully filled bin (I use HE SA-8 liquid detergent). I also like the no-agitator feature - allows for more clothes, but I STILL can't fit a double bed comforter inside, as is advertised. I don't like using the Downy ball for fabric softener. It doesn't fully drain, so if you pick up something that it happens to be wrapped up in and the ball is upside down, it will drain out on your clean clothes. I'd rather they'd put in a softener dispenser next to the bleach dispenser. I don't like the locking lid feature, as I'm constantly finding more stuff to drop in after the cycle has already started. The washer allows you to interrupt the cycle initially, but after one or two times doing so, then it will just stop. When it's spinning it's a bit loud, though not obnoxious. The laundry room is on the 2nd floor (near the bedrooms), so if we do laundry at night, we have to close the door. In 2012 I bought the matching dryer ($627) and, overall, am very happy with the set. I live just north of Kansas City on the Kansas side and, with removal of the old washer, delivery and installation of the new washer and tax, I paid $648.00.

I have owned many Maytags but this one really let us down. I cannot wash one set of sheets or towels at a time, the machine continually stops and has to be restarted. It is supposed to be EPA compliant, which is possibly the problem. If the machine stops for more than 10 minutes, you have to restart from the beginning. Since I don't babysit my washes, that happens more than not. Even on very small washes which I carefully distribute evenly, it stops and stops. Consequently, I know I'm using more water. Don't even try to wash a blanket or bath mats, now those have to go to a commercial Laundromat. Sometimes when I pull a finished load out, the clothes are not even completely wet! Because of the problems, I am washing extremely small loads and I am doing more laundry than ever! My husband and I "high five" each other if ever there is a load that goes all the way through the first time. I don't know if this is Maytag or the EPA, but I am not happy and I typically love Maytags!

Maytag - tag as a loser!
By Deborah (the no Maytag buyer any longer)
from Columbus OH
I've had my Maytag washing machine (and dryer) for 2.5 years and it's worthless as I was just informed by a repair person ... and not all that uncommon for the Maytags to go back this quickly. They certainly are NOT what they used to be, NOT what they claim to be and Marketing of them is certainly NOT accurate! It has NOT been heavily used (abt 2-3 loads every 2-3 weeks by one person and not heavy/over loads). I will never buy another Maytag anything and let everyone else know NOT to as well. I (and everyone else) would certainly expect the machine to last longer than 2.5 years!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Trouble with cycle repeating
By G o tribe

We have had this washer for about 2 years with no problems. But recently, the washer continues to repeat the complete wash cycle over and over. the cost to fix is almost as much as a new washer. We are shopping for a new washer at this point.

Loud whirring in spin cycle developed after 18-20 months . Gearbox repair for parts and install cost more than a new washer , I contacted Maytag, They stated they were "sorry for inconvenience," Washer is now outside ready for scrapping. Thats it for Maytag for us
This washer is horrible 2 years old and already shot.

I baught this not even 2 years ago and it's done. The transmission is shot and was told it would $600 plus to have repaired. That is horrible. I will need o buy a new washer.i have called and nothing has been done to resolve this problem.

I have had my washer for a while and to be honest, I did not think I would like it. Boy, was I surprised!! It works great! Cleans my clothes with no issues. Really pleased with it.

This washer sounded like a jet engine. After it leaked, repair was required to replace the gear case and cam - now it is quiet as a mouse. Maytag can't seem to grasp that I'm unhappy that I was sold a defective washer and I had to pay labor charges for the repair.
