Comments about GE 30" Single Convection Black Wall Oven:
I switched from a gas oven to this 30 inch GE Profile and could not be happier! Love baking in this oven! Holds a nice even temperature throughout. Took a little bit of schooling on my own to manage all the features, many more features than on my previous oven!

Cannot stay at proper temperature

I bought the GE Profile PT916 which looks like this model 4 years ago. I was very disappointed in it, and because it couldn't maintain the proper temp (always less than temp set), we had a new part installed 3 years ago. The repair man said I would get use to it, I have not! When making cookies, opening the door to check on them, the tem drops 50 degrees and cannot get back to the proper temp for a long time. It seems the problem may be this hidden bake feature (metal separating open cavity from the burners). Or there are not enough coils to get it heated up. I will be replacing this oven next month and throwing this on in the dumps. I wouldn't even want to donate it to anyone, that's how awful it is. I am 70 years old and had an old GE range that I loved, oven maintained the proper setting, baked beautifully. I thought I would again get a quality oven with GE, I have not.

I bought this wall oven over 3 months ago when I remodeled my kitchen. I bought all Slate appliances and was disappointed that GE doesn't make a wall oven in Slate. (Why doesn't GE make a Slate wall-oven to go with all their other Slate appliances???) So I have a black oven in an otherwise all-Slate kitchen. However, this oven does it all. I use the oven mostly in convection mode because it cooks the food in 75% of the time (so adjust your recipes accordingly). You never have to calculate the correct temp to use when using the convection oven, though, because this oven does it for you; just set it to the temp the recipe calls for. Cookies, cakes, and everything else I have baked have come out perfectly. I haven't tried broiling and am somewhat surprised the oven doesn't come with a broiling pan (it's an add-on accessory), but I have used the Probe function (along with Convection Roast), where you attach the included probe, insert it into the meat, set the temperature you want your roast to be cooked to, and then the oven shuts off when the meat is done. This worked pretty well, although I set the temp of the meat to be medium-rare and it came out medium. Also, after I used this function, the next time I went to Bake something and tried pre-heating the oven, I could not get the oven to heat. The user manual does not explain what to do after you are done using the Probe function and the oven shuts off, so I may be missing a step. What do you do once you remove the meat from the oven and the probe from the meat? What I ended up doing was shutting down the oven using the circuit breaker, then turning it back on. That did the trick and the oven worked again. The only thing I don't love about this oven is the racks...I find them very difficult to reinsert once they've been removed. For this reason I tend to leave them where they are and never change their positions. I would like to try using multiple-rack baking, one of its features, but because the racks are so hard for me to maneuver, I haven't.
Will Not Retain Heat

I bought this a month ago. Once you preheat the oven to let's say, 350....place your dish in the oven, within five minutes the temp is 330. It keeps decreasing after that. Now, I preheat the oven to 370, for a 350 dish, and then the oven might stay nearer to 350. Sounds messed up, doesn't it? Also, had the unit serviced last week. Calibrated and still does the same thing.
