I love the size and features of my new microwave and how attractive it looks. My prior GE micro didn't come with a turntable, and it makes such a difference, especially when I'm using the potato setting. I purchased a steamer covered dish which does a nice job under the steamer setting, but have to guess as to size or cups of vegetables I'm cooking when the question appears. One has to make many choices when preparing some of the food, so you have to follow instructions on the screen which tells you to "press again" for options and decisions to be made. Of course, you can simply choose to use regular cooking times based on past experience. I've had to remember to press the timer setting both at the start and upon completion of a countdown, or the reminder bell won't stop until I do, unlike my last unit. Also, in order to make the turntable stationary if the serving dish is too large to rotate on it, you have to press settings and go through some options to get to that function, and then press 0 for it to stop rotating. I found out that once the food was cooked, the setting automatically returned to the rotating turntable. However, these are just all learning curves one must get used to. I pretty much use my microwave every day so I hope it has a long life.

We have owned 4 (maybe 5) of these units and their immediate predecessor models. We keep buying them because they fit the space. None have lasted more than 5 years. We would gladly pay $100-$200 more if GE (or someone) would just make something more reliable that would last 10 years. But of course, they wouldn't make as much money. Each replacement has included cheaper materials than the previous one. In fact the one we just bought was even less expensive than the last one we bought 5 years ago. The 2.1 cf model has a dial selector; we prefer the all push button touch pad, but that's only available on the 1.9cf models (or smaller). If we had repaired our old model, the control module alone was over $500 (no labor). We bought the new model for less than that. Everything is throwaway now. The new one seems to work fine, although I have noticed it doesn't cook popcorn as well as the older version. It's the same old story when it comes to manufacturing products these days. No one makes anything that will last. If they did, customers would flock to buy their product.

Product quit after warranty - possible fire hazard
from Denver, CO, United States
Comments about GE White Over-The-Range Microwave Oven:
Purchased a new home and this GE model was included. Worked great for the first 17 months and then bad things started happening. The microwave would turn on by itself, make a humming noise and it was hot. Turned out to be the control panel, had it fixed and seemed like things were good. About 12 months later, experienced same problem; control panel again. Rather than replace another control panel, purchased another OTR microwave. Just couldn't take the chance that if we were weren't home, that the microwave could somehow turn itself on.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Very noisy rotating tray
from Hamilton, VA, United States
I bought this about 5 months ago. For the first month it worked quietly like every other microwave we've had. Now the rotating tray is very very noisy. I'm hoping it dies before the warranty SE we have some small chance of getting it fixed. Though I really don't want to take it down either.

Very Dissatisfied with product
By Not satisfied customer
Purchased microwave a couple years ago, Worked fine until a couple days ago. The microwave will keep on running when it is off. Of course the warranty is no longer valid. The cost to repair is too high verses buying another. I'm also concern about other issues occurring if repaired. Will be very hesitant in buying a GE for a while.
Lasted exactly 1-year to the day
from Thornont, PA
After 1-year the unit just stopped working. When I bang the interior top of the unit it will come back on and work for another minute or two. Then the thing shuts off. Like its not getting any power. Now what? Buy another GE?

Nice size. Use it everyday. So far so good. Hard to keep the stainless clean.
GIVEN THE COST OF THIS MICROWAVE I WAS SHOCKED THAT THE DOOR IS PLASTIC RATHER THAN GLASS AS IN MY PREVIOUS GE MICROWAVE.
Ergonomic, cooks well, looks good doing it
from North Carolina, United States
This is a new house unit and we are pleased. It looks great, easy to clean and cooks well. The separate timer and lamp buttons are so perfect; great idea GE.
A bit of an improvement over the previous one.

I like most of the features of this new Microwave oven. My only objection is with the control panel. The buttons are difficult to read and the light behind the clock/timer is not bright enough in our very bright kitchen.
