Product Details

Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum , Model DC40ORIGIN

Dyson DC40 Multi Floor is a lightweight Dyson Ball™ upright vacuum cleaner with the latest Radial Root Cyclone™ technology. It generates high suction power at the cleaner head, which automatically self-adjusts for different carpet types and hard floors.

Features:

  • Radial Root Cyclone™ technology
Conventional vacuums rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. But when you start to use some bagged machines, dust can clog the tiny holes in the bag. Some ordinary bagless vacuums work in a similar way. They use a central filter to trap fine dust, which can clog too. Suction drops, leaving dust and dirt behind in your home. Dyson’s patented cyclone technology captures more dirt than any other cyclone. In Radial Root Cyclone™ technology remodeled airflows maximize suction power. Improved flow efficiency reduces turbulence and preserves air pressure, so more microscopic particles are extracted by the inner cyclones. These refinements help remove more dust, allergens and pet hair from the home.
  • Ball™ technology for upright vacuums
Dyson Ball™ uprights ride on a ball, which pivots on the spot so you can steer with a turn of the wrist. The ball also houses core technology, including the motor and ducting. There's less clutter, so it's easier to clean into awkward places, along edges and around furniture.
  • Strong suction at the cleaner head
The cleaner head self-adjusts to maintain optimal contact with all floor types. It lowers on hard floors to remove more dust and pet hair from crevices and corners. On carpets, the base plate raises or lowers automatically, allowing the brush bar to remove pet hair and particles caught in the carpet fibre. It's designed for outstanding performance across all floors - not just carpets, but the whole of your house.
  • Lightweight and durable
Made from modified blends of materials selected for strength, flexibility and tolerance. Many parts are made from polypropylene reinforced with 20% glass fibres and high-impact PC-ABS. Using these materials means greater strength from less plastic – so the machine is lightweight.
  • Certified asthma & allergy friendly™
This vacuum is certified asthma & allergy friendly™ by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Dyson cyclones are able to capture microscopic particles including pollen, mold spores and bacteria.
  • Instant high-reach wand
A built-in hose and telescopic wand that can be pulled out in a single action. The wand and hose are engineered to extend to conveniently clean stairs and high places. Tools click-fit to the end of the wand or hose, giving more cleaning options for hard-to-reach places.
  • Hygienic and quick to empty
Emptying the bin on a Dyson vacuum is quick and hygienic. Just press the button to release the dirt. The bin is clear, so you can see when it needs emptying – and how much dust, dirt and pet hair the machine has captured. Dyson vacuums were the first to have clear bins – despite market researchers insisting it was a bad idea. Now clear bins are everywhere (though not all are made from the same ABS polycarbonate as riot shields, like Dyson bins).

I received my DC40 vacuum about 2 weeks ago. I ordered it directly from Dyson and it was here in 2 days! It came with more attachments than I expected, including a crevice cleaner (use with or without a brush), a small brush with 2 circular spinners to clean upholstery, a flat floor brush, etc, all in a high quality (canvas) bag with pockets to keep the attachments and user guide all together. I have asthma, and dust really gets to me, so I bought a Dyson, based on its reputation and my research. Enough of the nuts and bolts stuff; now I can start raving. The first thing I did was to use my old vacuum (which is plenty good) to really clean a foot-wide strip of my living room carpet. When I was sure I had done a good job, I turned the Dyson loose on it. I gave the same strip one pass up and one pass back and then examined the "stuff" the Dyson had vacuumed off my clean carpet strip.(I should mention that I have 1 smallish, short-haired dog.) It was amazing! There was a PILE of dog hair and lots of general unrecognizable dirt. I would guess it was about a cup of dirt, including the dog hair. I was flabbergasted. There was so much that I left it in the vacuum's canister to show a friend. She didn't believe me on the phone - thought I was exaggerating - so I let her repeat the process, after cleaning out the dirt canister. Using my old vacuum, she vacuumed a foot-wide strip of carpet next to where I had done it, then went over it again with the Dyson. Same result! It was again full of dog hair and misc. dirt. Unbelievable. I then tried it on dusty places, and I was really pleased to see it sucking up all the dust. I have several planters of cacti that were terribly dusty from having been outside all summer. I live where there is lots of farm dust....you wouldn't believe how dusty things get here! I couldn't touch those cacti with my hands, even with gloves. and a cleaning brush hadn't worked at all. So I put on the Dyson crevice/brush attachment, and now all my cacti are painlessly dust-free, with no poking and stabbing involved. Wow! I took it down to the basement, which has a concrete floor that gets really dusty and dirty.....it's an old farmhouse. Using the flat floor attachment, I made one pass along the floor, and was amazed at what happened - it totally sucked up stuff I didn't even know was there because I'd just swept the floor. Apparently I didn't sweep it that well, because there was a clearly visible path where the Dyson had sucked up the remaining dust . This machine operates better than any I have ever used. It is also a breeze to use. It turns on a dime, with no effort at all. It gets around and under things I just couldn't get at using my old vacuum. It has a looooong hose, and also a rigid tube that extends your reach another 3 feet, and is great for doing stairs and ceilings. Then, when you're done with the extension, it goes back INSIDE the hose, and hugs the back of the vacuum! It is the coolest thing you ever saw. I have, for the fun of it, vacuumed my entire house, including the windows and ceilings, the ceiling fans, all the appliance coils and linty things like the dryer vent, and the soft things, like curtains, mattresses and upholstered furniture, with great results. I even did the mini-blinds (which I thought nothing could really clean). WRONG! Those mini-blinds look like new, and the rest of my house is cleaner than I thought possible. I even experimented with the furnace filters, and they got clean too. Saved some money there. The engineering on this vacuum is exceptional! They thought of everything, and made it all easy to do. Everything clicks together so easily, and is so intuitive that you hardly need to read the directions to operate the vacuum. (Read them anyway, for important safety precautions, and lots of tips.) I am so impressed with in, and I could not be happier. The Dyson makes vacuuming fun! I know it's hard to believe that, but it's true. It's easy and it's fun. I love it and wouldn't give it up now for anything. I strongly recommend buying one for yourself! Or, if you don't believe all this raving about how happy I am, come on over to my house and use mine so you can see for yourself. You won't regret buying a Dyson. Honest!

I was just vacuuming with my DC 41 again today, and finally got so frustrated with it that I decided to write this review. I've had it for a few years and I am beginning to plot a careful revenge against this vacuum cleaner. It does not do well with rugs or carpet. Also, this vacuum must be knackered, because it is always falling over. It's great if all you need to vacuum is a completely bare non-carpeted floor, or directly up (like a wall or ceiling above your head). But what usually makes me let out an exasperated groan and give up on the thing is trying to use the extension. The way the tube is connected at the base makes it so entirely awkward to use the extension attachment for dusting- type procedures or vacuuming stairs. It is difficult to reach anything that is less than 4 feet away from you (the non-adjustable length of the nozzle on the end of the stretchy tube) and between knee-height to shoulder-height off the ground. For example, a window sill, staircase, radiator top, picture frames and wall hangings, to name a few. Trying to angle the suction head into the exact position at which the suck hole will direct itself at the space you are trying to target, while battling with the stretch of the tube is easy enough for contortionists. Unless you have the force. Because if the whole vacuum could hover somewhere above hip height, then you might not have to be a contortionist to use it. It might be easier to use an old-fashioned broom to sweep your floor debris into a pile, and then let this vacuum dazzle you with it's ability to suck. So, in summary, if you live in an igloo, are a jedi, or just don't actually care about all those silly little corners and crevasses, you will love this vacuum.

OK vacuum

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

I replaced an older model with this DC 40 last year. It is not as durable and feels like cheap plastic. I cannot roll it on its wheels without having the handle portion flop backward into vacuum position. It does have good suction but I worry about the attachments and the extension wand since that is what broke on my older model.

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

We love our vacuum it has worked better than any other brand we have had. We used to go through vacuums every 6 months or so. They would lose their suction. We have had this one for 9 months and its still working great! it's not heavy so its easy for me to take up and down the stairs. I would recommend buying this one.

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

This is my 2nd Dyson, have an Animal model DC41 purchased in 2010. I don't like that you have to pull down handle to use, I prefer the way it was before that you put your foot on the red bar to release the lock to vacuum. I find that it releases when going from tile to carpet & vice versa. It works well but does tangle more than the older model. I like that it's light weight. I feel like Dyson is not making the machines as durable as they used to which is unfortunate because I really like the vacuums

AMAZING VACUUM!!!!!

By

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

My old vacuum quit, which used a bag. I wanted a bagless vacuum. After much research about Dyson vacuums, I decided I wanted one. Our home has hardwood and carpet. In one room we have a 12x12 area rug on hardwood. After assembly of my new Dyson DC40 Origin, I vacuumed the 12x12 which had been vacuumed a few days earlier with the old bag vac. It was AMAZING the lint and crud that was in the Dyson canister. Such a small area had this much dirt. I then rolled it onto the hardwood and turned off the brush bar. It was also amazing how it maneuvered. I could have pushed it with one finger. Yes, it is just a vacuum cleaner but if you want a cleaner home, buy a Dyson.

I love my dc 40!

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

I wanted to wait until I had my dyson for awhile to review it. Ive had many vacuums and also professionally cleaned businesses and homes for many years. I put my vacuum through the ringer. I have a Siberian husky which requires daily vacuuming. I love the ease of the hose release for getting in edges. I also really like the pet attachment for my furniture. The ease of taking it apart for maintenance is splendid. everything comes apart at the right areas and easily. I accidentally sucked up a neck tie the other day with the hose ( don't ask) and no problem. just popped it apart and pulled it out. It has great suction. The only thing it is not great for is my hardwood floors doesn't pick up as good as Id like. I use another vacuum on my hardwood floors.

my second dyson

By

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

i purchased my first dyson when they first came out. absolutely loved it!! the plastic wasn't as great as it should be and i noticed when my kids bought theirs that it had been reinforced. i was really sad when it broke beyond repair and i had to get a new one. this one is taking some getting used to. it does fit into more spots as an upright, but i find it cumbersome in some respects. the container needs emptied way more often and i find i need to put my hands in the dirt often because it gets stuck in there.. gross. also it has so much suction when using the attachments that its impossible to vacuum any throw rugs.. it just sucks them up. In other words... i miss my dyson :-(

In my small apartment, in one cleaning, this vacuum filled the container. I was blown away. Never have I seen a vacuum cleaner work so well. And it being a remanufactured product goes to show me the serious of Dyson and its products. They just made a loyal customer.

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

This machine has been wonderful to pick up animal hair from my carpeting and hardwood floors. It is used weekly and with cats and dogs that are indoor/outdoor, I needed a machine that would do the job. This one does it. It is easy to use and clean and has been a big help in keeping the floors clean.

Comments about Dyson DC40 Origin Upright Vacuum:

As others have mentioned you don't see how clean your carpet can get until you use a Dyson, and though this is the least expensive of their uprights it does an amazing job.

The heavy "con" really isn't one; more of an observation compared to other vacuums that look similar to a Dyson but don't perform nearly as well. Most of the weight is in the ball and I think that actually helps how it glides over all types of floors with precision.

Easy to assemble out-of-the-box, amazing performance, and even at this price a great value. Get one, you won't regret it.
