Have been very pleased with this fridge. It looks sleek, has some creative concepts (like the shelf that slides back into a half shelf so you can fit soda bottles right there in front of you on one of the main shelves). The LED lights make a nice effect as they slowly fade on as you open the doors. They certainly provide plenty of light. The fridge and freezer stay very cold and there are some reasonably simple controls on the dial to change things around. Things to know: the fridge makes a low "howling" sound from time to time when the compressor is going. It's not crazy, and any fridge at this price point is going to make noise. Based on the extensive research we did on other comparable models, this doesn't seem that bad. It just sounds like the faint sound of the wind outside on a cold winter night. If I have to hear any noise, it's at least comforting that it is the sound of cold air rushing instead of a drip or something worse! Also, even though this is the way ALL fridges are, I don't understand why technology hasn't been created allowing for faster dispensing of filtered water. Takes about 30 seconds to fill up a 24 oz water bottle. Overall, has served us well and looks really sharp in our kitchen to boot.

Very average sums it up, though dissapointing for a 'Profile' appliance ...

We replaced all of our GE appliances with updated GE appliances ~8 months ago … While all have disappointed us, this refrigerator less so. We have not had any reliability issues with this refrigerator but, we find one aspect of ‘using’ this appliance a source of frustration. The source of this frustration is that the backlighting for the water/ice controls is around the ‘edge’ of the buttons, not behind the lettering of the buttons themselves. So, guess what ? While this is not an issue during the day so long as you have a reasonable amount of natural lighting in the kitchen, just try to read those labels during the early morning or evening hours … You can’t. The bright white backlighting around the edge of the buttons obscures your vision when trying to read the button labels. How this flaw could have possibly not been noticed during the design phase is beyond me. This problem with either incorrect or lack of proper backlighting is common in one form or another across all of the appliances we purchased. With the range and microwave, the lettering of all pad controls is gray on a black background, with ‘no’ back lighting ! You can see this for yourself in the appliance photos on this site, and zooming in makes it even more apparent. The natural lighting within our kitchen area is well within the range of normal but, because of the lack of contrast between the lettering and the background it’s necessary to turn on additional lights #overhead kitchen light, microwave above the stove, etc.# just to be able to ‘see/read’ the controls. You almost need a flashlight to use the controls, and I’m exaggerating only slightly. To us, this is a design blunder. Another disappointment is that the while the control backlighting on the refrigerator is white, the temperature/clock/timer lighting on the stove and microwave is greenish. All are Profile appliances, all purchased new and all purchased at the same time. I understand designs change over time but, putting out a ‘current’ line of appliances #e.g. Profile# with mixed lighting shows lack of attention to detail. On the plus side, we noticed the crisper drawer has fewer fragile plastic parts as compared to the previous model of this refrigerator, which is a good thing because the crisper drawer in the refrigerator we replaced broke by the 2nd or 3rd year, and of course replacing it would have been prohibitively expensive and the replacement drawer would almost certainly have broken in the same place, anyway, so we lived with it. The new design is just a bit less convenient but seems to be less prone to breaking. I choose reliability over convenience. Also on the plus side, I must say the Ice Maker in the Profile Artica refrigerators seems to be highly reliable, or at least it was in the one we replaced and in this one so far. We’ve never had one problem, and it gets used a lot ! Perhaps that’s the key … Frequent use. Overall, we’re fairly pleased with this refrigerator but, the GE Engineers, Human Factors and Quality Control folks should spend more time with these units in the ‘real’ world and less time in the lab.

I just bought this but love it already had another brand and it didn't last 3 years went back to GE - this looks and works like an ultra expensive one but with out the cost! love the layout inside and so sleek and luxurious on the outside!

I bought it two months ago and I am glad I did .We are really enjoying our new GE refrigerator .

Quiet compared to the Amana we replaced. Our first side-by-side. Like the inside lighting but the narrow shelving we need to get used to. Don't care for the one quick access shelf right now. Nice clean & sleek features. Have yet to hook up the water/ice maker.
Good price for the features offered.

Required a new fridge immediately. This GE Profile had all the features we were looking for and the price was reasonable.
Freezer Drawers to narrow, fall off track
from Clovis, CA (near Fresno)
Extremely disapointed in freezer usability; Freezer Drawers are too narrow and fall off track all the time and drop down. Repairman can't fix because new drawers would be the same width.and he doesn't want to try bending them.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
No water on day 1
from Clarksburg, MD, United States
The builder installed this for us, with no choices of other manufacturers. For the first time, I came into the house after closing on the sale for a glass of water. The water dispenser wouldn't work. No water comes out. No ice, crushed ice, quick ice, nothing comes out. Just air. Looked at the trouble shooting guide, It said on a brand new fridge, keep the dispenser pressed for at least 2 minutes for the air to go out and for the water to start flowing. I kept it pressed for 5 full minutes. Still only air comes out, no water.
Poor Workmanship Freezer and Less Usable Space
from Glen Allen, VA, United States
I have owned this side-by side now for three now and I am extremely disappointed. I should have written this before now but I feel others should know my frustrations. I replaced ALL of my white kitchen appliances with the GE Profile stainless steel (we went for the look of the GE). I do not know how GE equates their Cu. footage, but I went from a WP side-by-side which measured .1 cu.ft. less that the GE yet when I transferred the contents of the WP to the GE, I lost 1 full shelf in the fridge and 1-1/2 shelves in the freezer. Now for the problem with the freezer. The shelf and basket designs are horrible. The middle shelf and the two baskets below that shelf will not hold any weight. They always fall out of the plastic grooves on the inside of the freezer. The only basket that stays in place is on the bottom because it has reinforced plastic slides. So if you are upgrading your side-by-side refrigerator and don’t mind having less refrigerator and freezer space along with the freezer shelves supported by your food…go for it…otherwise stay away.
some great features

I got this new GE product because my six year old one went bad, the compressor went out and had to buy a new one. I like it all but when I use the water dispense a few drops leaks out and i'am constantly cleaning the water up.
from Sherwood, OR
Really like this fridge, takes a bit to get used to, first side by side. Huge veggie drawers. Wish the crushed ice was smaller pieces.

I am not at all impressed. I have owned better when purchasing a refrigerator.
