I chose Whirlpool because their products are generally very reliable. They are also the only brand that makes a dryer with the door that opens downward. Until someone invents a dryer with a door on the top of the machine, I??ll need the open door to catch any clothes I might drop as I transfer them from the washer. I have a bad back and can??t bend to place each handful of clothes into the dryer drum, so I need that open door to drop the handfuls of clothes on until it builds up and then I can just push the clothes into the dryer. It's very attractive with the glass center and you can make sure everything's moving nicely. The reason I only gave this dryer 3 stars for Design is that (and I didn??t realize this at the store) the top of the dryer is curved so the surface is on a curved slant. I don??t mean that it needs adjusting with the leg adjusters. So when I put my laundry basket on top of it, it slid right off. Same thing when I folded clothes and wanted to stack them on the dryer. Why on Earth anyone thought a slanted top was a good idea is beyond me. I remedied this by putting a rubbery, slip-proof liner on it. See pictures. As for the digital controls, they seem to mostly be pre-programmed. I was used to selecting my own temp and dryness level. With the pre-programmed dial, it prevents me from altering their levels except for a few adjustments. The buzzer has a loud and soft setting. The loud isn't loud enough for me to hear it upstairs.Easy to access and clean the lint screen that is right at the open door. Love the extra large drum! It can take on my extra large washer loads with room to spare!

I bought this dryer about 3 weeks ago after doing significant reading of the various Whirlpool units. The first thing I noticed was the signal tone. My dryer is in the basement. It sounds more like a cell phone tone. If you put your clothes in the dryer and go about doing another things around the house you will definitely not hear this tone. My previous dryer had a buzzer which you could hear almost anywhere in the house. Second, the "wrinkle shield". They should have called this the "wrinkle maker". This unit stops for too long and then tumbles for less then 30 seconds. My last Whirlpool stopped for a couple minutes and tumbled again. Each time buzzing. Third, drying is inconsistent. If the items are not dry, you have to turn off the unit. Then, turn it back on and re-set settings in order to get the load dry the second time. I had one load which I had to put through three times before it was dried satisfactory. Some setting options only work with "automatic" settings and other only work with "manual" settings. One thing others have mentioned is the slanted top. Where did that come from? It does not effect me since I have a table to put clothes on. But, why? Has Whirlpool out smarted it self this time? Did they test this unit in a real world environment after designing it? I don't think so. I'm seriously considering returning this unit.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio White Gas Dryer:
I bought this machine a month ago and happy I did. It had excellent reviews on Consumer Reports. It is not too complicated to run though I am still getting use to the electronic features. It dries adequately and I like the fact that it tells me how long it will be running so I can plan accordingly. It is not loud like the matching washing machine that sounds like a mac truck.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Clothes are cleaner than before the new washer but very unhappy with the noise level while in washing mode. Sounds like it is trying to eat itself - grinding gears. Horribly irritating.

I love this dryer it's small in size but big enough to dry a king comforter.
The Whirlpool Cabrio gas dryer gets 5 stars

This dryer has a lot of good features. The wrinkle free setting works great. It is nice and quiet and drys in less time then my old dryer. I am saving on gas. It has more room then my washer so it handles large loads. Overall, I give it five stars. No problems have cropped up.
