I bought this washer about a month ago. I did go to the site and read the reviews. It does make some noises but it is a new machine and machines change with the times. This has sensors to tell it what to do. How much water to use, and to use special detergent. I hardly have to use any. It uses less energy to run, less water, less detergent, I am saving all around. No large agitator in the tub, it spins the clothes practically dry. Less drying time in my dryer. I did not pick up the extened warranty. After a week I went back and bought the warranty, Since it has sensors I wanted to be safe on the warranty. You have up to 30 days from purchase to pick up the waranty.

After our reliable Maytag broke, we felt confident that Whirlpool would be the right choice for our new washing machine. We were impressed with the "no agitator" feature - it seemed we were keeping up with progress. Many of my washed items do not go in a dryer and are hung up to dry. This is impossible now. All clothes are heavily entwined and extremely wrinkled. Having done laundry for 50 years (I am 75), I have no need for instructions as how to do wash. However, I followed all guidelines that could supposedly eliminate the heavy wrinkling result. Pack clothes loosely, use warm water, use gentle setting, put a towel in with the clothes, etc. To no avail! I actually have to entwine clothing from twisted pajama pants. So sorry I bought this product. Wish I had my machine with agitator back. I now dread doing laundry. As far as energy savings - what energy savings (since I now have to iron most of my clothes)?

They don't make them like they use to
By Best Buy Wrong Choice
I bought my Whirlpool Top Load washer November 2013 and as of February 2017 it started making a loud banging noise in spin load. A few weeks later the stopped spinning all together. When I called my appliance repair guy to fix my Kenmore dryer - 23 years and still going; I asked him to look at the washer and the typical response now seems to be, it will cost more to fix than to replace. He said it was the drum. Not sure but this Whirlpool replaced the a Kenmore washer that lasted 20 years. This is totally unacceptable to make a large purchase like this and expect it to last only 3-ish years. I need a replacement and will not buy a Whirlpool. Model wtw4900bw.

Won't Last Long
My wife and I had this washer for about 3 years when it started making a terrible noise. Gears, transmission, belts, who knows. What we were told was that it was recommended to buy a new one versus putting the money into this one to fix it. Seems as if a new product would last longer than three years.

I thought I would learn to use it. Wrong settings, Not, this machine takes the longest time, i cut back on detergent 2tbsp and still get soap marks on my black dress pants. You go to hang out sheets and they're still washing. Very frustrating. I tried to warn sister, now she knows. Off balance alot

Lasted Only 2 Years!!!

We bought this washer in July 2014 after our old one rusted out and started leaking. Last week, the newer washer stopped spinning. The repair guy just told us that its bearings had already gone bad, and that it would be cheaper to buy a new machine rather than fix it. He also said that this was common because of cheap manufacturing processes and components, regardless of brand. Thanks for nothing Whirlpool--I thought I was buying quality but got junk instead.

Spins blankets into one, offset clump
By The guy who does the laundry

I've had this washer for two years now and I regret purchasing it with every wash. Don't even think of washing a blanket or sheets in it despite the very settings on its display board. I've become accustomed to sitting by the washer to stop it every 10 minutes or so to readjust the contents because the machine spins them into one large clump on one side of the drum and starts banging against the housing. I load this washer per its directions and just like clockwork, the washer spins the articles to one side of the drum. It doesn't spin clothes into a clump every time but the second you load a blanket into the washer with clothes, you'll soon hear the contents banging to one side of the drum. The machine is louder than any other washer I've ever owned, clothes come out of the washer in a twisted mess and the wash cycles take longer to wash than a conventional washer. I can't wait for the day it breaks down so I can buy another washer.
Do not buy this model or any whirlpool
By Joseph Cacciatore
If I would give it a less then 1 star I would. I had the washer for only a year and then the transmission went out. There is only a one year warranty on this washer. I called them and they said they will give me an extended warranty for like $400. I said, "What's the point I can go buy a new one for that price." I bought LGs they at least have a 10 year warranty on their direct drive. I will never own a Whirlpool product again. I am not even sure why this have so many stars.
