This is the second unit we've had of this kind in the last two years. The last unit broke in Jan. 2016 after two years and could not be repaired after FOUR ATTEMPTS. The repair tech spoke to the factory rep. and nothing worked. Replaced (3) circuit boards (2) control panels and (1) fan assy. Fortunately, ABT replaced the unit free of charge. Otherwise, this would have been the LAST Kitchenaid/Whirlpool appliance I would purchase.

Doesn't even get one star but you have to pick at least one. I have two of these dishwashers, first one burned out less then one year after installation. KitchenAid couldn't locate a new circuit board and therefore had to replace the entire unit. 6 months later, the second one has burned out. I am now on the phone with support and because the dishwasher, "is so far outside of warranty" that I now have to pay, $90.00 for a service company to come and tell me that the control board has burned up, and I suspect that I will be told that a new board cannot be located and I will have to replace the unit, which I suspect I will be told I will have to pay for, you know, because of the awesome warranty on this quality product. If you are looking for a dishwasher that only runs for 12-18 months before replacement, this unit is perfect for you. If you are looking for a dishwasher that will give you years of uninterrupted service I suggest you run far away from KitchenAid. I also had the pleasure of speaking with Alysa in their support department, who could not have been more rude, condescending and completely unwilling to listen to my issue or provide any level of help in any way. It's really that level of customer service and product quality that sets KitchenAid apart from the others for me :)

Not too pleased, based on unit arriving defective
Comments about KitchenAid Stainless Steel Built-In Dishwasher:
We purchased this dishwasher last week. Installed yesterday. The unit arrived with a defective stainless door panel. The outer stainless medal panel bows, and is not adhering to the door properly. It pops in and out when pressed. I expected netted craftmeship when spending this kind of money. No replacement of unit, by service provider or manufacturer. We dad not even used the machine yet, and they are telling us they can only replace the door. Seems to me, if you give us a defective unit from the get-go, the entire unit should be replaced. Now, we will will basically start with a refurbished dishwasher for 1,000.00. That is not acceptable to me. Especially after I did tons of research and based my purchase on CR's glowing reviews of these dishwashers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We like this dishwasher a lot
By Satisfied Owner
from Madison WI
Installed 3 months ago. Replaced another Kitchenaid dishwasher that lasted 24 years. This one is super quiet & cleans everything very well. The only thing about it that I have yet to adjust to, is inadvertently activating controls when closing the door (the electronic touch controls are in a line across the top of the door). The salesperson told us that main-boards are the the thing that causes the most problems with all dishwashers (& I know from experience, with refrigerators as well); so we purchased a supplemental warranty plan.Electronic equipment is sensitive to power surges. I try to use surge a suppressor when possible, but dishwashers are not made to be plugged into a wall outlet.

Great machine, Terrible lower dish rack
from Los Angeles
The Kitchenaid dishwasher I bought was fairly expensive compared to other machines. It works perfectly. However, when I load my dinner plates into the lower rack the tines/ spines/ separators do not keep the dishes from crashing into each other. There is a really stupid design flaw that enables you to lower the back portion of the lower rack to facilitate adding large bowls. That same feature, when lifted for large plates for daily use, makes the tines/spines /separators not line up with each other! I asked the company if there is a alternative lower dish rack and there is not. They really didn't get this one right.

Like other reviews, this dishwasher was not worth the money
from Acwroth, GA
Just like several other reviews, the top part breaks (leaving the top rack hanging) and the smell is awful in this dishwasher. I've lived in my house 11 years (built it) and this is the 2nd Kitchen Aid dishwasher I've had and have had nothing but trouble with them. I'd choose another brand next time!

Cheap plastic parts break off, rendering the top useless
from Seattle, wa
We have had this dishwasher for 2.5 years and after a year the plastic that connects the upper drawer to the rollers started degrading and breaking apart. Now, anytime we pull out the top drawer, it simply falls off the railings and comes crashing down. Clearly not a good thing when it's loaded with glasses.I'm surprised that such an expensive dishwasher would use such cheap plastic parts that clearly can't withstand the environment they are suppose do operate in.
