I've owned this saw for almost a year now. As other reviewers mentioned this saw is true right out of the box and stays true even with constant transportation in a trailer. The overall quality of this saw is top notch. The axial glide arm is what truly sets this apart from any other saw on the market. As shipped the glide action is set to very smooth movement but can be adjusted for a stiffer glide action. I personally have left it at the factory setting. After one year the arm glides as smoothly as it did on the first day. Most of my use of this saw has been for cutting framing material. The integrated rafter pitch angles is a welcome feature and has sped up my productivity in custom roof construction by atleast 10%. If I were to able to improve the angle markings and rafter pitch markings I would make the lines thinner since the width of the lines on the guide can represent about a half a percent of a degree if you are not paying close attention when setting. The upfront controls are fantastic and one of the major reason I purchased this saw over the others. The locking mechanisms still work as good as they did the first day. The override indent lever works well but can be easily tripped back to the locking position when working with the saw with gloves on in winter conditions. The fence extension wings are a little difficult to slide without frequent cleaning of the saw because the tracks fill with sawdust. This could be easily fixed if the tracks were enclosed on the top but would require the removal lever to be redesigned. The locking levers for both the extension wings and the fence extensions lock tightly every time and can be adjusted to be tighter or looser. The actual location of the locking levers in both the fence and the extension wings are in an awkward location making them difficult to use. To use the fence lock when the fence is extended you either must approach the lever between the fence and the base or from over the fence. When the fence is locked tightly this usually results in rapped knuckles because of it's location and the size of the lever. The base extension wing locking levers on the other hand are more accessible but there is not much room to maneuver the levers when the wings are not extended. If I could make changes to it's design I would try to find a better location for these two elements and perhaps making them bigger. The 12 inch blade and powerful motor are great aspects of this saw and I have yet to run into a problem with lack of power. It does have a downside though. Setting big bevel angles is difficult because of all of this weight. This could be solved if the saw had a spring assisted movement in the bevel plane or a gear driven mechanism. The only feature of this saw that does not have a pro component to it in my opinion is the depth stop. The depth stop is easy to use and adjust but seems like an afterthought feature of the saw. It is not very robust and making less than through cross cuts at a constent and accurate depth is near impossible. I do not think that this is because of the depth stop itself but rather because of a slight amount of movement in the entire arm / motor assembly where it connects to the base of the saw. As for a laser I thought this should be standard equipment when I bought the saw but after using the saw for a year I have since changed my mind. This saw is obviously designed for the professional and I have yet to see a professional that does not align their cuts manually first before comitting to the cut regardless if there is a laser guide or not. For the price of the saw I would have like to have seen the upgraded clamp included. The clamp that comes with the saw has been put in a draw after the first time I used it because it is simply to time consuming to work with. Overall I would recommend this saw to anyone. It's expensive but worth every bit of it's price.

I love the saw, but to give it a higher rating would be ignoring the troubles I've had so far. It has the potential to be the nicest slide mitre on the market. The general build quality and standard features like the extension wings make this saw stand out. If I could change one thing, it would be to include a soft start. Sadly, my first saw developed a bearing related problem after about four weeks of moderate use. It was returned to the vendor only to wind up with a saw that had uneven table heights....specifically, the centre turntable sat too high. It was taken to an authorized service centre for inspection and determined to be not repairable, so it also went back to the store. The most recent saw arrived with a broken vacuum/dust bag attachment. I actually haven't even tried the latest saw (three weeks old)...I'm afraid something else is going to go wrong. Bosch has been wonderful to deal with and obviously I see the potential of the saw or I would have given up by now, but it's really unfortunate that a brand that I've had such good luck with in the past may be faltering. Even though these products are now made in China, the quality doesn't need to suffer. I'm still going to recommend the saw on the belief I just had a nasty bit of bad luck. My last slide mitre saw lasted over twenty years and this one has the potential to do the same....fingers crossed!

The One To Buy!
from Brookings, Oregon
Each year, at Christmas time, my wife and I always buy our own main gift. Because, let's face it, you know what you want. And this year, I got exactly what I wanted. The Bosch - GCM12SD. Thanks, honey! The Bosch - GCM12SD, is the logical conclusion to sliding miter saws. Which is interesting, in that it doesn't slide, Instead it utilizes an axial glide system. These are two articulating arms that allow the GCM12SD to cut up to fourteen inches horizontally, and six inches vertically. And this, as firmly and accurately as any miter saw that slides on rails. Not to mention that it fits in the same area as my old twelve inch non-sliding miter saw. Try that with any slider on the market. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this tool. While I was leaning towards the Bosch from the beginning, it was the axial glide sytem that cinched the decision. That, and the fact that I had used Bosch tools professionally, and had never been disappointed. The dual bevel is really nice, and with the up front controls, are much better than constantly reaching behind the saw to change the miter. The one hand operation, and the detents for changing the angle, make the GCM12SD a breeze to use. The hundred plus degrees of miter cuts available, are simply icing on the cake. I particularly apreciate the ability to cut with either left, or right hand, provided by the two seperate safety switches that are built into the handle. The built in stock supports are great for holding a project piece, and ensure a clean, precise cut. The GCM12SD was everything I anticipated, and more. Don't wait for Christmas. Go out and get one now.

Purchased the gcm12sd last year and have no regrets. The cuts are accurate and precise.
GCM12SD Miter Saw

Very well made. Heavy, Easy used with right or left hand. Both side fences pull out for extended use. Both sides of material table extends out. Rather than the rod supports that the saw pulls out on, this unit has collapsing arms that make the pulling out of the saw to cut wide material very smooth and does not take up the space the rod support takes. The saw comes with an allen wrench that will allow you to adjust about anything on the saw. When rotating the saw for different degrees of cut, it's smooth and I really like the hard confirmed click of the locking in place you feel and hear knowing the angle is locked in. The first thing I did was cut a 12 inch wide board and checked the 90 degree cut with my big precision square and it was right on the mark. The saw has a small lever that will lock the saw from pulling out for small cuts. Very helpful. I researched miter saws for some time and I believe I made the right choice. The next thing I want to do is build a table for it set in.

I bought this saw to replace a radial arm saw. The fit and finish is excellent. This is my first "chop/miter saw", so I really appreciated the thorough manual. My big complaint is the dust collection (hence the 4 of 5 stars). Attaching a vacuum to the chute did not to have much effect, about 50% collection maybe. I built a 4" duct behind the blade, and ran it to my dust collection system, and that brought it up to about 80%.
great strong, accurate and easy to use

I bought this 2 weeks ago to replace my existing 2 year old 10" radial arm saw that always need adjustments and wasn't always accurate. I permanently installed on a table with guides and it works great. So far I've cut 4x4s, 2x4 edgewise 45 degree flat way and edge wise. I checked out the accuracy of the various degree stops with a digital square and it came out perfect with no adjustments needed. The only problem that I have is that the safety on the switch is hard to depress. overall, its a great machine and i intend to use it more that my previous Radial Arm saw

I have purchased the saw along with the Bosch T4B Stand. I have undertaken a thorough review before purchasing the saw and am happy with the purchase and all of the front controls available.

I've had several miter saws including sliding compound miter saws from other manufacturers. This is so far ahead of any other miter saw I've used it's simply incredible! At any angle this is the smoothest, silkiest operating on the market. It has ample power with a ton of features. I would recommend this to anyone! A great saw!!
I purchased 2 of these saws to replace a dying miter saw and a radial arm saw. The one saw takes up less room than the radial arm saw with only 1 1/2" less of a cut length. I never mitered on the radial arm saw so this is a major upgrade. The other saw went on a custom built stand and gets rolled all over the shop and theaters. Both saw had to be squared up out of the box. Each was out by approximately 1/4degrees. The main thing I wish the saw had was a calibrated pointer that allows me to measure to 1/4degrees increments. I'm just precise like that. Also, the thumb safety makes it difficult to hold the blade guard up when cutting really tall pieces.
I've had this saw for a few years now. The glide is so smooth and accurate that it gives you great control of the saw. No issues with saw what so ever. Be sure to get the gravity stand, it'll make your life a whole lot easier.
