Was moving into a new place and didn't want to buy a bunch of furniture, so decided to refinish some old stuff & make some. Was moving from overseas so basically had zero tools with me. This was one of the first tools I bought after a lot of research, and even though it's more expensive than many sanders you see, it is well worth the premium. Dust collection is excellent, in fact if I need to sand something around the house will reach for this often as it creates way less dust than using a piece of sandpaper. Variable speed, which I thought would be a gimmick, is actually very useful. As I didn't have many other tools I tended to 'abuse' this one by using it for all sorts of stuff it really isn't design for (rounding edges, smoothing curves, etc). Always worked great. It's worthwhile finding the hard baseplate if you can too, can then use this for more serious material removal. Carrying case holds tool + some sandpaper. The sandpaper in envelopes doesn't fit too well though, they should have made a little more room to hold extra sandpaper I think. Use by my girlfriend as well a lot, she found it pretty comfortable, and liked the variable speed as she was more comfortable with it set a little slower.

Difficult to clean after heavy usage. Left swirl marks; I am a very experienced woodworker.

Great beginner sander

Comments about Bosch Tools 5" Palm Random Orbit Sander Kit:
I highly recommend this sander for beginners. Also when this sander is hooked up to a shop vac it is virtually dust free, especially when using higher grits of paper.

We have had this sander for quite a few years, and it is working just as good as the day that we bought it!
ease of use,

I purchased this sander for a replacement to an old Ryobi which out lasted its usefulness. this is by far a much better sander, it light and really does the job intended. good comfortable grip and so easy to use, like all my other bosch tools once again would recommend to anyone looking for a great orbital sander.
AWESOME Orbital Sander

Purchased the Bosch ROS20VSK after seeing the high ratings online. This sander is a dream to use, providing great dust control, very low noise and vibrations. Filter system is effective and well designed.
Quiet and productive

Owned many random orbitals but decided to add another for convenience. What a surprise to find a tool tat is almost silent and only has modest vibration. If I couldn't see how well it was working I would have thought that it wasn't running. Easily hooked to my vacuum system, though the dust catcher is very efficient.

This tool doesn't cut my steak.
So, I was looking at a bunch of reviews on this sander and noticed a trend in the lower ratings. This review is to state that - if used correctly - this sander is an excellent sander. The primary purpose of this sander is heavier finishing, not stripping. If you want to strip stain or heavy paint, or smooth out a very rough surface, obviously you need a higher powered sander. Like a belt sander. Or a chisel or hand plane. Every single sander out there will bog down if enough force is applied to it, as well. With this sander, you shouldn't even be applying any force to it. Just let the weight of the sander do the work for you, with very small amounts of even pressure here and there, if at all needed. People will inevitably use it for tasks it's not designed for, and thus give it a bad review. If you use it correctly, it will perform exactly how you would expect it to. I've used mine - as a finishing sander - every single day for the past year and a half and with a bit of unavoidable maintenance here and there, and it works just as well as the day I bought it. I've also used my higher powered belt sander for stripping and roughing now for around 6 years - nearly every single day. Still works - and it's a brand that's not nearly at the quality level of Bosch tools. It's all in how you use it - every tool has a specific task, and this tool does it's specific task very well. Very obvious analogy here, but you shouldn't use a wrench to cut your steak.

Fast and easy to use sander. Dust collection keeps work area neat, just need to empty it regularly.

I received this a month ago as a gift. It was a great gift and is very comfortable in your hand when you are using it.

This sander is very nice. Hook and loop system is easy and changing discs is a snap. The variable speed feature is nice . The dust filter and box really does a good job. I couldn't believe how much dust came out of that filter. Excellent product.
