Sony Cyber-Shot 20.2 Megapixel Digital Still Camera - DSCRX10B

A portable digital powerhouse is yours with this Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera. It includes a large 20.2-megapixel digital sensor that ensures you get vibrant color and vivid images every time thanks to the BIONZ X image processing, which works in harmony with the camera settings. A wide ISO range lets you shoot in lower light situations, but when you want to bump up the photo quality, rely on the optical SteadyShot image stabilization incorporated in the camera to account for hand shake and vibrations.

This Sony digital camera also includes Wi-Fi connectivity so that you can rapidly upload photos to social media, and NFC connectivity makes it simple to connect to smartphones. You also get face detection and a smile shutter to produce perfect portraits, and then you can record high-definition video at up to 60 frames per second. An HDMI output terminal lets you connect this compact camera directly to a TV, and you can connect extra devices such as microphones via the input terminal. When you need to preview your images, use the electronic viewfinder integrated into this Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera.

Key Features:

  • 1" 20.2MP Exmor R™ sensor for extreme low-light shots
  • Bright f/2.8 24-200mm Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* Lens
  • Simple connectivity to smartphones via Wi-Fi or NFC
  • Up to ISO 12800 sensitivity with advanced noise reduction
  • P/A/S/M operating modes with smooth precise control ring
  • Record your photos as JPEG files, RAW files, or both
  • Full HD movies at 60p/24p with full exposure control

  • See Life in a New Light

Open your eyes. A bright, large-aperture zoom lens, a big, extra-sensitive image sensor and other brilliant features are ready to fire up your passion to create. It's the new RX10 – the compact digital camera that puts boundless picture-taking power in your hands and a fresh new outlook in your sights.

  • More Room to Zoom

Close-up shooting is seamless. No switching to macro mode is needed. Zoom in all the way up to extreme telephoto on a subject as near as 30cm away. The built-in lens makes it more convenient for you to take impressive shots throughout a big range.

  • Professional power. Portable size.

An advanced aspherical lens (AA lens) reduces diameter and length, and maintains high resolution even at image edges. A new Direct Drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) stops lens movement with spot-on precision. Far-reaching optical flexibility minimizes mechanical dimensions. Precise alignment of the image sensor and lens also perfectly combines diminutive form and outsized performance.

  • A Clear Difference

Boasting a 20.2MP 1.0-inch Exmor R® CMOS sensor with back-illuminated technology and approximately 4x larger light-sensitive area, RX10 harnesses light and reduces image noise in ways other compact DSC (digital still cameras) can't match. Combined with the high settings of a wide ISO range, even photos of dimly lit scenes look incredibly clear, crisp, and lifelike.

  • New BIONZ X Image Processing Engine

The groundbreaking new BIONZ® X image processing engine not only maximizes picture quality in ways that only a seamlessly unified body and lens design can realize – it also faithfully reproduces textures and details in real time, as seen by the naked eye, with peerless high-speed processing. The experience of shooting and viewing stills and movies expands your senses by depicting true realism with richer tonal gradations and lower image noise than was previously possible. With such a high magnitude of power ready for every situation, BIONZ X naturally leads toward better ways to capture the world in full glory.

  • Quick Focusing Even at Telephoto Range

High-speed AF is remarkably smooth thanks to the Direct Drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) with precision-engineered focusing stop positions designed to minimize focusing lens travel distance, which shortens focusing time.

  • Versatile Focus Area Selection

Choose among three concentric Flexible Spot frames for greater focusing versatility and precision than other cameras' fixed-focus spot frame systems can provide.

  • Lock-on Autofocus with Smart Precision

Just press the shutter button halfway to activate Lock-on AF. It precisely focuses even on moving subjects by continuously adjusting target frame size based on its recognition of subject characteristics. You can easily stay focused on the main action because this object tracking innovation optimizes autofocus timing. Even when a subject goes out of frame temporarily, tracking resumes at the moment that it is recaptured after re-entering the frame.

  • Eye Catching

Applying advanced detection technology, this new Eye AF function detects and focuses on a subject's eye, even if the subject is facing or looking slightly away from the camera. Then, a blinking green frame appears on that eye in the viewfinder image to indicate the point of focus for the upcoming shot.

  • Capture it all in Full HD

Record Full HD movies in the AVCHD Progressive, 1920 x 1080 format and select between supremely smooth-looking 60p or cinematically expressive 24p shooting modes. To maintain clear, steady movie shooting results, optical image stabilization in Active mode effectively reduces camera shake.

  • Professional-caliber Sound and Recording

The RX10 has plenty of features to realize more of the potential in your movies. To record sound with precision worthy of professional production, connect a high-performance microphone through an input terminal. Monitor pristine stereo sound through premium-quality Sony headphones plugged into the headphone jack. A built-in HDMI output terminal also accommodates connection of a TV, computer or DVD player/recorder. Audio metering and recording level control are instrumental to keeping soundtracks smooth and consistent. Use the camera's Multi Interface Shoe and an optional XLR Adaptor Kit to hook up external recording, flash and other accessories. It all adds up to a set of professional-class capabilities that is unprecedented among all other compact cameras.

  • See What You're Shooting

Connect via the HDMI terminal to transfer clear, uncompressed digital movie signal output from the RX10 to an external monitor/recorder simultaneously in real time. Or, for a cleaner view, turn off the shooting info display and watch your movies unfold on an external monitor/recorder.

  • A Truer Viewer

See spectacular clarity, contrast and detail in every scene, regardless of conditions, on the built-in, bright, high-resolution OLED Tru-Finder™. Four dual-sided aspherical lenses provide a big, approximately 33-degree view angle and maintain excellent edge-to-edge visibility of the electronic viewfinder.

  • Customizing Convenient Command

For faster, more intuitive camera operation, you can customize a total of seven buttons by assigning up to 40 types of functions among them. As a result, you will gain more convenient access to your selection of frequently used functions, right at your fingertips.

  • A Spectrum of Settings

Use the manual ring to directly control certain settings, zooming and focusing, according to the focus mode in use. In addition, before turning the aperture ring to set F-stop, you can turn Aperture Click Switch on for a stepwise feel of assurance, or off for a quiet, smooth feel when setting the aperture. Display panels on top lets you glance at key settings without moving the camera as you look through the viewfinder.

  • Strong and Light Enough for Anything

Magnesium alloy top and front casings make RX10 light, solid and robust enough for long, rigorous use by advanced photographers and videographers. Shoot in rugged outdoor environments without worry as the dust- and moisture-resistant design gives you that added level of confidence to follow your subject wherever they may roam.

  • Advanced Easy Interface

A new, improved graphical user interface makes access to frequently used functions absolutely effortless. Just press the Fn button to display a list of them.

  • Cover Every Shooting Angle

Shoot comfortably from various positions via an approximately 1,229K-dot tiltable 3.0-type White Magic™ LCD screen. The display has the flexibility to be tilted within a range of angles extending from about 84 degrees upward to about 45 degrees downward.

  • Easily Connect with Smartphones and Tablets

Download the free PlayMemories Mobile™ app and instantly connect via Wi-Fi® or NFC (near field communication) by touching a compatible Android™ smartphone or tablet to the camera. Then, you can remotely control the camera's shutter release from that other mobile device, instantly receive the image on the device and upload transferred images to a social networking site.

This camera rocks! It has the Sony's popular 1" sensor along with new processor which is also installed in a7 and a7R! But the real treat is the lens! Sure this camera costs$1300.00 but if you consider that many people who buy DSLRs don't ever upgrade their lens and to get similar lens like those found on RX-10, would cost at least $1000.00 it is a great deal! Real treat would be if the sensor in RX-10 was APS-C but the cost would be little higher a suppose. Great travel/family camera with awesome still and video quality!

Fantastic Value

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.2 MP Digital Camera:

Impeccable build quality. This camera has tons of features. Yes, it has the phenomenal 1 CMOS sensor but it’s paired with an amazing, high quality glass lens and no one is doing that for the price of this camera. The biggest surprise for me was the video, best I have ever seen in a still camera and the built in microphone is very well done. This camera does everything real well and I have never seen an auto mode produce the quality stills that this puppy does. However, I primarily use it in manual mode. My buddy’s told me I wasted my money but now are jealous at the quality I can crank out for a grand. They spent thousands of dollars on high quality equipment and I always thump them prior to Lightroom and we get some great laughs because of it. I do a lot of oil painting and this is my sketchbook. I upgraded from my macro Cyber-shot DSC-H2 which has served me well for 9 years. I am so satisfied with this I could darn near cry as it took a lot for me to go against my buddy’s advice while forking out a grand. The DSC-H2 never failed me and that was most important in my choice. Well done Sony!

The Best Camera I've Owned Yet!

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.2 MP Digital Camera:

I use this camera professionally for automobile photos on our website. The only negative I can mention is the camera is HEAVY. I'm sure the telephoto lens is a big part of that. But the images I am able to take with it are top grade. It makes me better at my job because I slow down to get the shot right. The horizonal level in the view finder is a huge help to frame the shot correctly. I have worn out 2 DSLR's, and a compact camera. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

If you are serious about photography

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.2 MP Digital Camera:

Set it to auto and get great pictures with the Zeiss lens. As I have owned it I have slowly learn to set the program-function to my preferences and also there are 2 custom tabs of one I have set to take "watercolor" shots and the other Macro with fine tuning. Video is super cool and smooth with very good color and wonderful clarity. Great panorama shots which I use more because it does so well. This camera will take time to learn even half of the functions but the reward is outstanding photographs and fun ways to customize pictures. I am not easy on my camera and it has held up well with excellent battery life, example; recently took 350 pictures and battery was still 56% unreal Sony. It is the portability of this camera that is the biggy for me.

On the go camera with a pro look and feel.

I love this camera, I have it for a year now and its my companion for vacation trips, shot opportunities, and a great backup to my NX5u. I am not a professional photographer nor I consider myself a Pro video filmmaker but I do film school plays and have done a low budget wedding already with this camera which has paid for itself. I bought this camera mainly for my personal vacation trips with the family wanting pro like pictures and videos in a small package but thinking that it might also be use as a second camera if the need arises. The auto settings for picture taking produces pro quality pictures without breaking the sweat of complicating your time and searching settings. Video its amazing and now with the new update version 2.0 you can record in different formats. This camera does not have interchangeable lenses which most pro photographers might want but for the average user or on the go and indie filmmaker this is a most have. This camera has the hardware for 4k but it is not supported with the new firmware. The construction is very solid and I have use it in very damp humid weather and rainy days. The camera still performs great under all conditions. I am very please with the low light for video under auto settings. If you want to go more pro you can by playing with the manual settings. I am sure they are better cameras out there and everyone has their preferences but for on the go all time camera this one is a must have. Sony if you are listening please upgrade to 4k with a firmware or make an RX20 with same specs but 4k video from the internal card and I am sure you will beat a lot of competitors. I get 2 more of this. Thank you.

I normally never write reviews but the engineers need to be regonized for a job well done. from ergonomics to user interface every thing seems to be just right, if I had one complaint I would've wanted a wider angle lens. This is my personal preference some may want longer. Maybe adapters in the future? Finally I know purchasing a camera could be pretty overwhelming with so many options. I know there's reviews out there. But the combination of lens and 1 inch censor is just about right for photos and videos. If you're more interested in the videos I would look at Sony's 4k options

so far I've taken about 4500 pictures. Pros: everything. What I like especially is the wifi feature. I take a few pictures every day showing the weather in our area. I then post the pictures on my web page which is on the upstairs computer. Removing the stick is a pain in the neck. So I appreciate that I can leave the camera downstairs, tell it to transmit the new (!!, another nice feature) pictures, and when I'm at the computer the pictures are already there. Cons: I wish it had GPS which a number of cheaper cameras have

Very good camera!

I have a full frame DSLR, but due to its size it's cumbersome to bring along for the day. The RX10 is perfectly sized and equipped to be a "take everywhere" camera. It's photos and videos are amazing. Only thing, is that it lacks video remote control when hooked up to Sony's Play Memories WiFi remote software. If you're going to make a camera WiFi equipped, it should allow you to control the video as well as the photo function. This camera's video is excellent, but it's limited without being able to be accessed via the camera's WiFi.

I'm a pro & have been shooting for 30+ years, and this camera is amazing… Finally, the perfect zoom range (24-200mm), RAW, click or floating aperture, built in level with the grid screen option, Zeiss glass, it's fast-F2.8, and unbelievably well thought out. The build quality feels wonderful. Should you buy this camera? NO You should buy 6. It's really that good.

A Very Powerful P&S Camera - Great Results

I received the DSC-RX10 as a Birthday Gift from my wife in February 2014, when the pricing was at $1,300. I had yearned for this product ever since its announcement and initial reviews. It's now late September 2014, and I have utilized this Camera (along my other Cameras) to a very fair degree. Results: It is lightning fast in capturing an image whether you utilize one of the Cameras internal auto or scene settings, or you set your own Speeds, Aperture, etc. Color capture is absolutely excellent, as are the details the 1" Sensor is capable of picking up. I utilize an AF 18-135 Kit Lens which does the job all the way around, and provides some 8.3x Zoom power. I love this product. There are a couple things that I have noticed that could be improved: (1) The Captured Image "processing time" is rather slow in time. I utilize SDHC 40/mbs - 90/mbs Class 10 Cards with the timing not much different. If you Zoom your Lens back in "right after" taking your shot, the Camera LCD automatically displays the "Monthly Calendar" of photos taken! You must wait for your image to be processed which can take 1-3 seconds for even a single shot - not a multi shot setting. (2) If your shot pointed slightly up, or down, at your object you will see preverbal "Rounding of the Corners" (there's a word for it, that I just can not immediately recall at the moment of this review writing). SONY in general, needs to greatly improve their "Detailed User Guides Manuals". You know, the 250+page types containing all the functionalities of usage. Sony uses a cascading type format that is only accessible through a PC or other electronic means, and IS NOT in a traditional Book Type Format the way we all access information. Another words even though you can download these Manuals in a PDF format, you still you can not simply look at their detailed Manuals, and hope to Print a Hard Copy in a Book type format - must access things via electronic means. Yes you CAN print a page or two at a time, but Sony (and other companies) have cheapened the way Owners/Users have access to the usage of the purchased products. Of course Sony NO LONGER provides a Disc (CD) with their products - even this rather pricy Camera product. Also note that as of July 1, 2014, Sony reduced the price of this Camera model to $999 - a $300 drop versus what we paid just a couple months prior. Not real happy about that! I give this product a 5 Star rating because its ability to provide excellent photos, and impeccable live action movies that are some of the best I have ever seen, or used. I utilize other brands of DSLR's, and Sony Alpha DSLT's, and other higher end P&S products. This RX10 is right at the top of the list in my experience, I love it. Improved "detailed" User Manuals and start re-including a CD's is something Sony should and could do better at.
