Jury Still Out

Comments about Whirlpool Stainless French Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:
I replaced my microwave, range, dishwasher, and refreigeratior with Whirlpool products this August. My referigerator was delivered on September 18, 2015 after being on back order for one month. I like the style of the appliances and the fit and finish is very good. I like the French door style. This refrigerator was perfect for my needs. Spacious enough, easy to see all items, well lit, drawers move easily. I am still getting used to the freezer and trying to figure out the most efficient way to arrange items in it. All was going well until today, a Sunday. While cooking for the week, I noticed the refrigerator was running for a long time. I didn't give it too much thought because I was in and out of the kitchen and assumed it could have stopped running for a while. That is, until I opened the freezer compartment and was greeted by what looked like a scene from White Christmas. The entire freezer compartment was covered in frost/ice. Of course, being a Sunday there was no customer service available from Whirlpool, the small retailer from whom I purchased the appliances was closed, and the local Whirlpool service company was closed. All I could do was turn the freezer/refrigerator off for about 15 minutes in hopes to reset it, take out all my items to remove the frost/ice, wipe out the freezer compartment. The Refrigerator User Instructions booklet was not helpful. I cannot move the refrigerator to unplug it in hopes of perhaps resetting it because the instruction manual does not explain how to release the stoppers on the bottom of the unit to move it. I am hoping nothing is leaking under the refrigerator. As a single working person, this is an extreme inconvenience. I am a Whirlpool household (dehumidifier, air purifier, and washer/dryer) and selected Whirlpool because of the quality of its products. I am questioning Whirlpool's quality now. When a product performs like this in less than a month of use, there is a design or manufacuturing problem. During graduate school, I lived in housing that had what I would call low scale appliances and never had to call a landlord about a refrigerator problem. Even the less than $400 refrigerator that was in my condo when I bought it never gave me any problems over the last eleven years. But my brand new Whirlpool did. The jury is still out on how I would rate this product. Customer service and appliance performance over the next months will determine whether or not I recommend it or return it for another brand. By the way, the refrigerator is still running, six hours straight, but at least no new frost/ice for now.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
