I use it mainly to vacuum carpeted stairs. It is adequate for vacuuming small particles from hardwood but sometimes scatters the debris. I like that I don't have to worry about recharging it or having the battery wear out. The cord is long enough to be able to reach all the stairs.

I bought this vacuum about 3 weeks ago. I have an old portable Dirt Devil with bag and it works great for years. Because of that, and the one I have is getting worn out (hard to find replacement part) so I decided to buy another one from the same company, Dirt Devil. This time, it is bag less so I said wow, even better than the old one because I have to keep on buying bags. It turned out to be a not good vacuum. The problem is while vacuuming, the dirt cavity does not show any sign of being full of dirt (it has about 1/30 sign of being full or almost empty). The reason for that is because it is sucking the dirt in and blowing some of the dirt out on the side at the same time. It is hard to see this if you just have regular dirt. I have a red carpet so when it is blowing the red dirt out to the side, lots of the red dirt was clinging to the outside of the vacuum. I was wondering how could this happened. I decided to open it up and tried to find out what is causing the dirt to blow back out into the air. After spent about 15 minutes looking at it and the filter, I think I found out the reason why. This vacuum has a small filter inside the big clear plastic where the dirt is supposed to be trapped. When this filter is clogged up (after 1 or 2 usages), it starts to blow the dirt back out into the air even when the clear container is not even filled to 1/30 of its capacity. I am not a vacuum designer but this product seems to have a bad design. One remedy for this is you have to clean the small filter inside it every time before using it even when it looks empty. If you have to vacuum a big area or an area with lots of dirt, you should clean the filter every 20 minutes or sooner. I wish Dirt Devil would take a hard look at this and re-design this product. I think this vacuum would work well if you use it to vacuum cut up paper or spilled beans, rice bit, or something big not dirt (powder like).

Not happy

from Greenville, PA, United States

I bought this to use on the church pews ! It blows dust out the back on it ! I took the first one back and got another but alas the same problem ! Very disappointed !

Are we being misled here......?

from Wisconsin

Box for SD12000 shows filter being rinsed clean; instructions say to tap clean only. ?????

Not as good as the Panasonic

from California

This machine has a powerful brush and makes a lot of noise, but has minimal suction. Vacuum a velvet pillow with it and you will see that the fabric is never lifted. A true vacuum lifts the fabric since it has suction. The upside is that i have never had to empty the cup. I vacuum all of my furniture and hard to get places twice a month.

Performs Great.

Performs Great. Easy to empty/clean filter. I use it to vacuum my staircase.

5 star is right

from Pennsylvania, United States

This cam to me by accident, won in an raffle I didn't choose. I couldn't be more surprised by the way I needed it. So easy to use and light, it's more like playing than cleaning. Also emptying is a breeze. No fuss, no muss, I dreaded doing the stairway, even avoided it at times, now it's the first to be done! The cord is extra long so I can go anywhere.

from Undisclosed

Bought this for steps and quick cleanup as we have 2 cats and a dog in the house. Works well and does the job. Only problem is that the filter is a little card to clean but I just tap it on a paper towel laying on the counter and the dirt comes out. Like the fact that there is no bag. I use it on both carpet and linoleum

Powerful for a Hand Held

from Undisclosed

We purchased this specifically to clean a long carpeted stairwell. It appears to be extracting dirt that accumulated despite having vacuumed regularly with another product.

Very powerful

from Ohio, United States

Bought this to vacuum furniture and stairs. Works great. Light weight and powerful. Wish it had attachments though like a crevice tool.

Picks up well

from Santa Rosa, CA, United States

I am very happy with my purchase. I didn't have much money to spend on a vacuum cleaner and I needed one for my stairs. Picked up hair and dirt well.

good vacuum - belt service door design is GARBAGE!!!

from Greensboro, NC, United States

This thing does a great job of vacuuming up dust/cat hair in couches ect due to it having a belt driven brush vs air flow driven. Problem is, if you get the tip of a blanket sucked up into the brush, your belt is going to come off. Here is the problem: the design of the service door for the belt is Garbage. First off, the phillips head design is poor. Do you want a phillips or a flathead. make up your mind and make it deep enough in the screwhead to get a screw to grab is nicely! Secondly, the screw is deep down in a recessed hole. It is next to impossible to get the screw removed so that you can remove the service panel. The service panel's screw captive ring should have been placed near the screw side of the part instead of in the center of the part. That way the screw isn't 2 inches down a hole. I understand what this does to your tooling but you've made a design that doesn't work! The service panel also needs to have the hole the screw passes through opened up some so that it doesn't "catch" the threads of the screw, keeping the screw down said hole. I had to take the whole vacuum apart and back together again to try to get the belt back on and the belt came right back off. Can't wait to take it apart for a second try!
