Have my Roomba scheduled to clean house every morning automatically. My auto virtual walls are great in that I don't have to deal with turning them on and off. The whole point of an automatic roomba is screwed up if you have to manually turn on a bunch of virtual walls--this automatic wall fixes that issue. The insanely long battery life is great, too. I've had mine on for 4 months straight and they are still working fine. Anyway, like them very much. Only sad that they don't work for my original model Scooba as it would be nice if they did. I imagine that the 500-series Roombas probably send out an IR signal or something that triggers the auto wall to start transmitting actively its own signal--and I suppose the original model Scooba (the blue one) probably doesn't have that capability. Don't know if it would work with the newer Scooba's or not. Anyway, if you need any virtual walls and want to have your Roomba automatically go around and do its thing without you having to worry about anything--this is a good thing to have.

The virtual walls need a charging base / docking station like the Roomba itself. Currently I have rechargable c cell batteries and take them out after each use. The problem even with the auto feature is, you never know when the batteries die. Then the pet is off and getting damaged in another room. Please fix this! No one likes the battery concept. You can do better.

The virtual wall does a great job of blocking the Robot. We use it in different areas of our home at different times depending on the need at the time. We're thinking about getting an additional one.

Comments about iRobot Auto Virtual Wall:

Although breadcrumb-trail thru Accessories via 800 series brings you to this & description says "Roomba or Scooba".
Can turn on manually & it blocks, but light goes out after 30 minutes or so & won't come on automatically when Roomba times itself on.
I called support thinking it was defective & the person informed me that it wasn't supposed to work w/ 800 - she was very understanding and issued a Return Authorization - I have to eat the return postage & they are supposed to credit my card when they get it back.
Another tip if this happens to be the right one for your unit - the beam points with the long dimension so if it's not against a door jamb, will be perpendicular to the wall.
p.s. LOVE THE ROOMBA - ordered the right part & some more filters.

I see that the comments on the difficulty in opening the battery compartment date back to 2013-2014. I, too, had difficulty opening the case with the wall that came with my Roomba purchase in 2014 and after using a screwdriver, etc was successful--once I figured out where the thing actually opened. I almost didn't buy any additional because of this problem. However, I've just gotten TWO additional walls and they opened with incredible ease. I think iRobot listened.

I read other reviews about the difficulty opening the unit to install batterys. At the base of the unit there are indentations with the word IROBOT on both sides. If you hold the unit with thumb and index finger at these two places, and slightly press inward while lifting up the sides it will come right off. hop this helps

I never realized that it was hard to get the batteries out. It just takes a screw driver to lossen one side and then the other. Pull it open and change batteries. A couple of C batteries last a long time. I don't know why you have to take them out between times. I have two 770 Roombas and they continue to work just fine. I have a dog that SHEDS so I have to clean brushes a lot. I am seriously thinking of upgrading.

What good is this piece of plastic if people cannot open it to get the batteries in? I followed the video instruction, and squeezed the logo as instructed. Nothing. I squeezed with pliers. Nothing. This is a serious design flaw.

Tried to use it to block robot from areas but robot does not acknowledge it even exists. I bought the vacuum as a gift for my wife, the virtual wall came with it . The vacuum works OK on hard surface but not so good on livingroom area rug . Seems to work OK on carpet runners and light rugs..

I had read reviews that said the battery cover was very hard to remove. I found this to be true, especially for people who have dexterity issues. I found that I could easily open the battery cover by wedging a dime into each of the slots to hold down the tabs to the case. It was then easy to open the battery cover and put in the batteries. The device works perfectly.

Received this with my Roomba 630. It dos what it is supposed to. However, it comes without the 2 C batteries it needs. The battery compartment is very difficult to open. If you have strong hands, should be fine. I am female and elderly. It was almost impossible to open, and I had to contact customer support as there were no directions on how to open it. I finally was able to open the compartment with a screwdriver, per customer service, but it was still hard.

The Roomba is so well designed, I am surprised how poorly this accessory is designed. However, it is common today that designers don't take into account the range of owners who need to use these items.
