ZAGG ZAGGkeys Folio Backlit Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air - ZKFHFBKLIT105

The new ZAGGkeys Folio is a mere 7.6mm thin, just more than a quarter of an inch, and only 17.7mm, or about two-thirds of an inch, when holding your iPad. This makes it one of the thinnest keyboards available. But while it is smaller and easier to carry, it actually offers 30% more typing room than the competition. In addition, it features a pivoting hinge that allows you to place your iPad at virtually any viewing angle, just like a laptop screen. Open it up, set it to your preferred angle, and off you go typing in comfort.

The Folio zips along on a powerful battery that will keep it powered for up to three months of regular use between charges*. In addition it offers backlit keys that make typing in low light areas easy on the eyes, and responsive, island-style keys that provide a natural and speedy typing experience. With these features, and more, ZAGGkeys Folio is the all in one solution for typing on the go.

  • Patent pending design provides additional protection for your iPad.

I read the review below where the guy said his complaint was that there are no speaker holes.  Zagg responded and strangely just apologized and said they'd look into redesigning it just because one guy overlooked the actual speaker holes? Maybe I have super sharp vision,  but anyone who owns this product (or CREATED IT lol) can examine under the home button when the iPad is placed inside.  There are TWO CHANNELS (tunnels) above and below the home button that redirect the sound from behind to the front.  Look at the right border of the case area and you'll see it.  Just like there's a hole on the left side for the microphone. Even weirder, despite complaints, is I found that this design IMPROVED the sound because the iPad Air's speaker design is not so great.  Especially coming from the iPad 4 where the speakers were powerful and had great fidelity and a surround sound effect.  Sound was directed AT you whereas the iPad Air just leaks sound out from the bottom.  The Zagg design redirects the sound forward so it's much easier to hear and seems much louder. Now for my real issues with this case.  Mine seems to have a defect where the Caps lock button indicator light doesn't come on.  The manual claims there is supposed to be a blue light that comes on,  but I unfortunately never see it.  I thought maybe I had a setting turned off but the manual doesn't say anything about that so I'm guessing the LED is dead on mine?  If Zagg can confirm that would be great. The only other thing is that the case area doesn't seem to fit the iPad snugly on the top portion.  I notice the top left and right corners of the iPad in landscape mode are popping out of the case.  It could be since the material is very thin that mine was warped to where it's wanting to pull back and only the middle "clip" area is holding it in.  I'd imagine the rate that this happens would be high since the plastic is very thin,  and the only area that actually holds the tablet in is the tiny clipped area on the middle of the top portion.  But they did this so it would be easy to remove the iPad I guess. (which it is) When I close the device it feels great in your hands and has a nice feel when it snaps shut.  It feels secure and solid.  The hinge feels solid and keeps the position you set.  I'm hopeful that the hinge won't wear out over time since the iPad Air is SO light there's not much strain on it.  I love the sleep/wake feature and the keyboard comes out of hiberation almost instantly.  No time to wait for it to reconnect if you leave it idle for too long. It's easy to remove the iPad from the case so not sure why people are complaining about this.  Although a tablet mode would of been cool you would STILL have to remove the iPad from the hinge and then flip it around.  So it doesn't make it any easier than just removing the iPad altogether.  If you want that feature you can simply buy the standalone keyboard cover version.  Which I was debating whether to wait for,  but figured not protecting the back of the iPad is a big mistake.  Unless showing off the words "iPad" to strangers is important to you (and more important to theives). The backlit keys in different colors is a very cool feature.  I love changing it every so often to suit my mood.  There's plenty of function keys to do what you need to do and the keys have a nice feel to them.  They aren't too clicky and yet not to mushy either.  They feel solid and every letter you type feels important.  I typed this entire review on the keyboard as a matter of fact!   My only other issue is with iOS and not really keyboards.  Apple seems to not have put real keyboard & mouse support and so the arrow keys never scroll up and down on webpages like other devices do.  I'm wondering if a keyboard maker could actually make this happen or if it's all Apple's fault.  It's quite annoying when every other keyboard in the world that isn't for Apple devices can scroll with arrow keys,  but not the iPad. Anyway, definitely the best iPad Air keyboard case available at the moment.  Despite my critical review...I'm really loving the keyboard.  The other cases out there force you to pull the iPad forward into a slot and don't offer multiple viewing angles.  Plus you get multi-color backlit keys to boot.  So if you need a keyboard case THIS IS THE ONE TO GET at this very moment even after the recently announced ones.

I've been using the Zagg Keyboard Folio for my IPad 2 and I absolutely love. So when I switched to the IPad Air, I decided to give this keyboard folio a try. It's definitely lighter and the bluetooth compatibility works great. But there are some glitches that Zagg might want to consider improving. First is the case cover, unlike the Folio for the IPad 2, this one doesn't have the curved edge slots to hold the Ipad securely inside the cover. The only thing that is stopping the Ipad Air from falling out is the top of the cover where the device snaps in...and that is still not secure enough, and the hinge at the bottom. In addition, the device doesn't sit snugly inside the cover, especially where the volume and power switch buttons are located. You can actually move the device back and forth inside the cover. 2nd glitch. There should be a gap between the hinge and the device. I had the Zagg screen protector placed on my device because I like to protect my screen. It is a good thing, I spent that money for the protector, because when I opened my folio today, there was a big bubble on my protector, exactly where the device comes into contact with the hinge. I'm afraid to think what would have happened to the glass on my device, if I didn't have the screen protector on my device. Now I have a ruined Zagg protector...or at least where the big bubble is, but for now the glass screen is still intact. If Zagg makes the necessary improvements, are we eligible to replace our current one with that one?

Sprung closing

By

from Houston, TX, United States

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

I love this keyboard especially with the backlit keys. However, I've had it about 8 months and it seems to be sprung because the closing doesn't seal well anymore. This would be such a big deal but the ipad isn't always turning off. I use this for business mostly and showed to meet a client the other day with a dead battery on the ipad. Now I need to research the warranty and find the reciept to see what my options are. BTW, I tried another keyboard before this one which I had to ditch because of the quality and bluetooth issues. Love this Zagg!

Folio with backlit keyboard for iPad Air 2. **LOVE IT !** I use it everyday. i was not sure which keyboard to purchase I just knew I wanted one. I chose the folio and I was a great choice ! It is a little heavier than expected once the iPad is inserted but it is also very protected so it is worth it in my opinion. You won't be disappointed!! I will never own another ipad with out buying the folio too.

Great Functionality

By

from Leawood, KS, United States

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

Bought the case back in August so that I could forgo the need to carry my laptop to class. It works wonderfully. The best part is the fact that, unlike similar products, it does not ratchet into place. It has a fluid 270deg of motion from the iPad back, and it will stay in place no matter what angle you desire. This is a huge plus - it really makes the iPad into a laptop in form as well as function. The only downside is build quality. I have a number of friends who own the same case, and this issue has affected every one of them. As a result of heavy (but normal per design) use, the hinge becomes stressed and fails. On a product that's designed to fold up, the hinge should be so well reinforced that it will NEVER fail. On the Folio, every person's case that I know has failed in this manor. I suppose it's the price to pay for having such a useful case. I have yet to find any case, with or without a keyboard, that is nearly as functional or useful. The keyboard itself is also a huge plus. It is lined up much the same as a Mac keyboard, and it is very durable. The battery life lasts me 2-3 weeks easily (constant use for 5/7 days each week). Be aware, though, that although it looks cool, the backlight drinks battery. The backlight button is poorly placed, so that a wrist could easily tap it while typing. Overall, 7.25/10. Fulfills the purpose I bought it for, and does VERY well. Only issue is build quality.

Absolutely a 5-Star Winner for My iPad Air

By

from Michigan, United States

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

I can't imagine enjoying and using my iPads with out my Zagg Folio. This is the second Zagg purchase for me. I enjoyed one with my iPad 2 and simply had to have another with my Mini. The only issue I have had is that the hinge has broken twice now in the last 5-6 months. But thank goodness for Zagg's excellent customer service program; they have replaced both of them within days. I'm wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong or if this just happens to be a quality flaw that they are working to fix.

Nice keyboard...for about a year.

By

from Washington

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

My department ordered about 15 of these in February, got them in April, and the one I have quit working correctly the following March. One entire row of keys no longer works. However, this is just outside of the warranty window since they were ordered more than a year ago. My department will probably order another one for me, but I would never personally buy a product knowing that the company doesn't back it properly. In my mind, ZAGG should have covered the replacement.

Works well....until it breaks

By

from Washington, D.C., United States

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

I bought my first folio for ipad air in Dec 2013. It was great for a couple months until a crack developed along the hinge point. I got a replacement and had it for a year. Now, there is a very large crack on the hinge, and it's only a matter of days until the top/screen part breaks completely off. Everything works well, it is lightweight and the keyboard is wonderful. But the case part of it doesn't appear to be able to take a lot of opening and closing before it cracks. I'm very sad.
