ZAGG ZAGGkeys Folio Backlit Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air - ZKFHFBKLIT105

The new ZAGGkeys Folio is a mere 7.6mm thin, just more than a quarter of an inch, and only 17.7mm, or about two-thirds of an inch, when holding your iPad. This makes it one of the thinnest keyboards available. But while it is smaller and easier to carry, it actually offers 30% more typing room than the competition. In addition, it features a pivoting hinge that allows you to place your iPad at virtually any viewing angle, just like a laptop screen. Open it up, set it to your preferred angle, and off you go typing in comfort.

The Folio zips along on a powerful battery that will keep it powered for up to three months of regular use between charges*. In addition it offers backlit keys that make typing in low light areas easy on the eyes, and responsive, island-style keys that provide a natural and speedy typing experience. With these features, and more, ZAGGkeys Folio is the all in one solution for typing on the go.

Features:

  • Patent pending design provides additional protection for your iPad.
  • A unique hinge design offers over 135° of viewing angles.
  • The Bluetooth® keyboard feature island-style keys and 30% more typing space than the competition.

  • A powerful battery offers up to three months of use between charges.
  • Backlit keys in interchangeable colors make typing in low light areas a breeze.
  • Special function keys help you get more done from the convenience of your keyboard.

I read the review below where the guy said his complaint was that there are no speaker holes.  Zagg responded and strangely just apologized and said they'd look into redesigning it just because one guy overlooked the actual speaker holes? Maybe I have super sharp vision,  but anyone who owns this product (or CREATED IT lol) can examine under the home button when the iPad is placed inside.  There are TWO CHANNELS (tunnels) above and below the home button that redirect the sound from behind to the front.  Look at the right border of the case area and you'll see it.  Just like there's a hole on the left side for the microphone. Even weirder, despite complaints, is I found that this design IMPROVED the sound because the iPad Air's speaker design is not so great.  Especially coming from the iPad 4 where the speakers were powerful and had great fidelity and a surround sound effect.  Sound was directed AT you whereas the iPad Air just leaks sound out from the bottom.  The Zagg design redirects the sound forward so it's much easier to hear and seems much louder. Now for my real issues with this case.  Mine seems to have a defect where the Caps lock button indicator light doesn't come on.  The manual claims there is supposed to be a blue light that comes on,  but I unfortunately never see it.  I thought maybe I had a setting turned off but the manual doesn't say anything about that so I'm guessing the LED is dead on mine?  If Zagg can confirm that would be great. The only other thing is that the case area doesn't seem to fit the iPad snugly on the top portion.  I notice the top left and right corners of the iPad in landscape mode are popping out of the case.  It could be since the material is very thin that mine was warped to where it's wanting to pull back and only the middle "clip" area is holding it in.  I'd imagine the rate that this happens would be high since the plastic is very thin,  and the only area that actually holds the tablet in is the tiny clipped area on the middle of the top portion.  But they did this so it would be easy to remove the iPad I guess. (which it is) When I close the device it feels great in your hands and has a nice feel when it snaps shut.  It feels secure and solid.  The hinge feels solid and keeps the position you set.  I'm hopeful that the hinge won't wear out over time since the iPad Air is SO light there's not much strain on it.  I love the sleep/wake feature and the keyboard comes out of hiberation almost instantly.  No time to wait for it to reconnect if you leave it idle for too long. It's easy to remove the iPad from the case so not sure why people are complaining about this.  Although a tablet mode would of been cool you would STILL have to remove the iPad from the hinge and then flip it around.  So it doesn't make it any easier than just removing the iPad altogether.  If you want that feature you can simply buy the standalone keyboard cover version.  Which I was debating whether to wait for,  but figured not protecting the back of the iPad is a big mistake.  Unless showing off the words "iPad" to strangers is important to you (and more important to theives). The backlit keys in different colors is a very cool feature.  I love changing it every so often to suit my mood.  There's plenty of function keys to do what you need to do and the keys have a nice feel to them.  They aren't too clicky and yet not to mushy either.  They feel solid and every letter you type feels important.  I typed this entire review on the keyboard as a matter of fact!   My only other issue is with iOS and not really keyboards.  Apple seems to not have put real keyboard & mouse support and so the arrow keys never scroll up and down on webpages like other devices do.  I'm wondering if a keyboard maker could actually make this happen or if it's all Apple's fault.  It's quite annoying when every other keyboard in the world that isn't for Apple devices can scroll with arrow keys,  but not the iPad. Anyway, definitely the best iPad Air keyboard case available at the moment.  Despite my critical review...I'm really loving the keyboard.  The other cases out there force you to pull the iPad forward into a slot and don't offer multiple viewing angles.  Plus you get multi-color backlit keys to boot.  So if you need a keyboard case THIS IS THE ONE TO GET at this very moment even after the recently announced ones.

I've been using the Zagg Keyboard Folio for my IPad 2 and I absolutely love. So when I switched to the IPad Air, I decided to give this keyboard folio a try. It's definitely lighter and the bluetooth compatibility works great. But there are some glitches that Zagg might want to consider improving. First is the case cover, unlike the Folio for the IPad 2, this one doesn't have the curved edge slots to hold the Ipad securely inside the cover. The only thing that is stopping the Ipad Air from falling out is the top of the cover where the device snaps in...and that is still not secure enough, and the hinge at the bottom. In addition, the device doesn't sit snugly inside the cover, especially where the volume and power switch buttons are located. You can actually move the device back and forth inside the cover. 2nd glitch. There should be a gap between the hinge and the device. I had the Zagg screen protector placed on my device because I like to protect my screen. It is a good thing, I spent that money for the protector, because when I opened my folio today, there was a big bubble on my protector, exactly where the device comes into contact with the hinge. I'm afraid to think what would have happened to the glass on my device, if I didn't have the screen protector on my device. Now I have a ruined Zagg protector...or at least where the big bubble is, but for now the glass screen is still intact. If Zagg makes the necessary improvements, are we eligible to replace our current one with that one?

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

Purchased mine for my iPad Air almost two years ago now and still loving it. I have dropped it may times, it's slid across the floor and still works! I especially like the long battery life on the keyboard. I'm in Florida so I'm on my Lani all year round and love the lighted keyboard so I can use it by candle light. A bargain and a must have!!!

Garbage!

By

from Wilmington, NC

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

Have had 2...first one required rather frequent re-pairing with iPad, and then, the hinge broke. Liked the clamshell design, so, I tried another. This one required constant, incessant re-pairing throughout the day, and then, the hinge broke on it, as well. Breakage occurred after only approx. 3 months of careful use. Avoid this poorly made product.

Works great at first, requires regular replacement

By

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

Good thing Zagg stands behind this product, it has required replacement 3 times now. Hinge is prone to breaking due to its construction design. It is a hassle but also shows Zagg to be a great company as they have stood behind it even out of warranty. Renews my faith in the company and would buy from them again as a result, but I hope the design team addresses this for future R&D.

I have only had my keyboard for a year. It started to separate from the cover. I don't want to "duct tape" it back together so am forced to purchase a new one. Gr-r-r-r

This was a gift from my ...

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

This was a gift from my sister. I loved it for about a month. Two things happened. 1) the Bluetooth kept disconnecting from my iPad. It would claim to be there. I had to manually disconnect and then reconnect everubthreebor four days. But on week four I had to stop saying it. 2) the hinge broke. I went to open it up and it just kept going back. A gift from my sister and I can't use it. That stinks.

Very Good

By

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

I am on my 3rd backlit folio keyboard in less than 2 years. Why? Because the plastic hinge that holds the two covers together keeps coming apart and it can't be repaired. To me, this is a design flaw. Otherwise this unit is a superb item for the use it was intended for.

Poor Design

By

Comments about ZAGG Keyboard Case Cover for iPad Air:

The plastic hinge on the keyboard case we purchased lasted one year and two months. Now, the unit is worthless. The hinge is underdesigned for any serious use.
