Comments about Epson Expression 1100XL Graphic Art Scanner:

I upgraded from the GT-15000 A3 scanner and this is an improvement in many ways. For example it outputs 16bit colour, whereas the older model's output was 8bit. The result is a far better depth of colour information in the scan. Secondly, since TWAIN support in Photoshop was removed in its 64bit version and neither Windows or Apple support it, it was necessary to find a scanner fully compliant with the latest OS. This version comes without the film/transparency attachment available with the 11000XLPro, but it is possible to scan larger format transparencies at a high resolution. You can buy a transparency attachment or make one, if you need it. The platen on the 11000XL is slightly larger than A3, meaning that edges of documents and art objects are captured, particularly useful if you are scanning larger work and having to stitch pieces together, or scanning an irregular shape. The software bundled with this scanner, (currently Silverfast 8) is much better than the native scanner driver interface for Windows or Apple OSX. It allows for far greater flexibility in obtaining the best results. It also integrates into Photoshop for better workflow. The reason I did not give this scanner 5 stars, is because of a problem that has existed with older scanners and has not been dealt with. Scanning lager work requires a flat surface, but for some reason the designers incorporated a ridge in the moulded plastic alongside the glass platen that raises artwork off the surface and causes the area on the right to be out of focus. This effectively reduces the size of the platen on the right. At the top edge of the platen there is a much smaller ridge. This is much less intrusive and at least has a purpose, providing a straight edge where documents can be registered against. There is no such lip at the bottom edge, so it is not necessary to the design integrity of the scanner. The lid of the scanner can be raised or removed to facilitate the scanning of large items. However, there is a spigot that triggers a light when it is raised and this gets in the way when you lay large items that need to extend outside the platen when being scanned in parts. Personally, I removed both of these protrusions without any disadvantage to scanner function or structure. Be aware that doing so definitely voids the warranty. In short this scanner is well worth the cost, produces results that are perfectly fine for fine art reproduction and can cope with thicker media. It would be perfect with a couple of small design tweaks.

high quality electronics but

Comments about Epson Expression 1100XL Graphic Art Scanner:

I use this to scan flat artwork - and the hardware is wonderful - even though it takes up a lot of space, it is given a place of honor. It captures everything with exquisite detail. I used it for over a year and then upgraded my operating system to Windows 10 - now it does not run on this computer and has given me hours of frustration. Wish there was a way to make it work in the new operating system!

LOVE it!

By

Comments about Epson Expression 1100XL Graphic Art Scanner:

As a watercolor artist living in a small area 180 miles away from any GOOD print shop, my original art pieces had to be mailed back and forth from here to a shop to scan, mailed back to me, then mailing the final prints to the cliental. A LOT of unnecessary time and money in postage and insurance spent to achieve what we now can do in house in minutes. I have more control of the end result in color correction if needed and a faster turn around time in workflow. The software Silverfast 8 that is included (I have upgraded to the full suite of Silverfast 8) is very easy and accurate to use. Good equipment is an investment, but I have NEVER regreted this purchase once!!! My full workflow consists of: Windows 7 Epson 11000XL scanner, ASUS ProArt Monitors Photoshop CS6 Epson P800 Printer

Awesome for Archiving

By

from USA

Comments about Epson Expression 1100XL Graphic Art Scanner:

We specified Epson Expression 11000XL- Photo Scanner for a huge 50-years of business history archiving project because of its batch processing. More than one-year into the project we couldn't be happier. The scanner is mated with an i7 Intel processed laptop with maxed out memory--so the scans are quick and precise. This project has grown into all sort of offshoots and the included software was just what we needed. It tells us exactly how to scan big and small artifacts for accurate reproductions, up- and down-sized production. This is a great piece of technology to mold a business around.

Working with excellence

Comments about Epson Expression 1100XL Graphic Art Scanner:

It is nice to have such quality piece of equipment. It profiles easily and seems to stay in balance for a long time. The scanning surface is large enough to capture most things I need to scan in one shot and when I need to tile there is enough overlap for a perfect image merging via Photoshop.

Arrived defective

By

from Colorado

Comments about Epson Expression 1100XL Graphic Art Scanner:

It arrived promptly but I was unable to plug it in due to a defective part. Epson customer service directed me to the nearest service location. And they determined they would have to get a replacement which they said would arrive in 3-5 days. The gentleman said he would make sure it was in working order before I picked it up. So I cannot speak to the product but was very impressed with customer service.
