BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking for a great wireless speaker and only have <$200 to spend, look no further!

This is a review of the Sony SRS X5 Wireless Speaker, which has quickly become my new favorite speaker.

Compact stylish speaker with excellent bass for its little frame. Deeper bass and clearer highs than the BOSE Soundlink Mini and my BOSE Companion 2 Series II, mainly attributed to the SONY having three speakers in it rather than BOSE's one. For $200, in my opinion, it is the BEST value you can get.

The interface on the top of the speaker is amazingly sensitive (all touch except for the power and speakerphone buttons), but because it has a clear top it is prone to finger smudges.

This small speaker easily fills up a 20'x20' room off the charger. And the NFC button makes connecting a smartphone super simple. Sounds best at 50%-80% volume off the charger.

I've run the speaker, so far, six hours straight w/o a problem or drop in audio quality. There is an AudioClear button on it, I've found that it accentuates the highs and voices in a song but doesn't enhance the bass at all. It would be a little more convenient if a remote came with the speaker as sometimes turning up the volume on the device it is connected to doesn't always increase/decrease the volume the same amount as if I were to use the buttons on the speaker.

It is also convenient that I can charge my phone through the DC out port. Bit disappointed that to buy a case it would cost an extra $30, but I don't really plan on using this outside of a home/apartment/patio. The charger is a little clunky but nothing so much that it would be an inconvenience to charging the product.

Would also be nice if the speaker came with a little handle or ledge in the product to make transporting it more natural, but at 2.6 lbs carrying it is really easy.

Overall, it is a amazing speaker that rivals those twice its price, but is not a flawless speaker - 4/5.

I am very disappointed in this item. I never had problems with Sony products until now. These speakers buffer/skip a lot so audio quality is bad, plus music waves cause it to move and fall to the floor. I barely use it out of fear it will break. I've only owned it for a few months so I doubt Sony can help me.. Will probably resell.

Comments about Sony White Wireless Bluetooth Speaker:

The only thing I didn't select in the PROS category was "lightweight". But I like that it's got some heft to it. It's just the right weight for its size. Rubber feet keep it secure on a smooth surface, but it did vibrate off of my deck railing. No issues with the fall, though.

      Service and delivery comments:

      Absolutely no problems with delivery.

      Very simply put... Wow!

      By

      from Redditch, Worcestershire, UK

Comments about Sony Black Bluetooth Portable Speaker:

i purchased this speaker today, and after having a bit of trouble getting it to turn on the first time, its now working a treat! it wouldnt turn on until i gave it a full charge, i assume this is because of the battery protection inside, baring in mind it does say to do this in the instructions! but anyway, after i got it powered on, i simply touched my phone on the top and my phone said, would you like to connect to Sony and i simply clicked yes. Done! how simple is that? i then took to soundcloud and threw everything i could at it, full volume, banging bass and it was very VERY impressive for its size! it reminds me of a baby... surely something so small cant make so much noise but turns out, it can! it also seems to have a volume limiting feature built in to stop it from distortion which as we all know is very welcome as theres nothing worse than listening to your favourite song along with distortion! the build quality is second to none, its very strong and a nice weight! it gives you the option to switch between bluetooth and a aux in, but i personally will stick with bluetooth on this one. Another nice feature is the 5V 1.5A usb charger socket on the back, plug your phone/ipod in to this baby and it will charge it on the move! cracking idea sony, but one thing i havent been able to find is the rating of the internal lithium cells, which would be handy to know becuause then you would know how long the batteries would last while also charging your phone! they just seem to give you a very vague "8 hours"... but either way, im extremely pleased with my purchase and i couldnt find any other speaker that could even begin to compete with this at this price.

        Best of three

        By

        from 92354

Comments about Sony Black Bluetooth Portable Speaker:

I bought three Bluetooth speakers at the local big box electronic store and tested them out, ultimately returning the two I didn't like and keeping the Sony SRS X5. All ~$200, I wanted the best wireless sound of the bunch, leaving other features and aesthetics out of the equation. I listened to the Bose Mini Soundlink, TDK A33, and the Sony SRS X5. In the end the Sony won out with the best sound and has the added bonus of features not included in both of the others. This was purchased as a supplementary speaker for my home audio focusing on its portability; so, while it outed the other two for best sound balance and volume, it was never intended to replace the kind of listening done in front of a phono/receiver/speaker set-up. The A33 is comparable in its volume output, but the sound was overly sharp with trebles too high. Bose does not measure their volume output in wattage, and the Soundlink Mini just does not match either the A33 or SRS X5 in its volume output. However, the Soundlink Mini has a much more balanced sound than the A33, and a more powerful bass. The heavier bass is ever-present, though, and can be out of place depending on the speaker use (spoken movie dialogue vs jazz music vs rock music- it isn't best for an all purposes sound). The SRS X5 is the best of both with volume and balanced sound for either watching movies on your laptop or streaming music. Additionally, the "surround sound" feature gives you at least two choices of the sound balance best for your intended use, a feature neither of the other two speakers had. Like the A33, it also features power sharing for your phone/ mp3 player (Soundlink Mini does not), and has an Aux line-in for those that don't like Bluetooth sound lossiness. Tertiarily (and subjectively), I also like the design of the SRS X5 the most. It is a small unostentatious portable black box, minimal and effective. One feature I would like see in the future is fade-out back lighting on the top-panel, the volume buttons can be hard to locate in low-lighting.

Comments about Sony Black Bluetooth Portable Speaker:

I have this speaker/base for my flat. I love the quality of the sound, very sharp and crisp. It also doubles as a charger for my Xperia Z1. It is amazingly loud. A little bit heavy, but to me that is just well build and strong, for my on the move music I have the SRS-BTV5. The NFC is quick and the connection is stable and flawless. I do recommend the X5.
