Enhanced Fast Hybrid auto focus combines speedy phase-detection AF with highly accurate contrast-detection AF. Fast Hybrid AF has been accelerated through a new Spatial Object Detection algorithm, to achieve among the fastest autofocusing performance of any camera (0.06 second). First, 179 densely placed focal plane phase-detection AF points swiftly and efficiently move the lens to bring the subject into focus. Then contrast-detection AF with wide AF coverage fine-tunes the focusing in the blink of an eye
  • Low light situations not a problem
Built-in pop-up flash in a compact camera body is perfect when an extra burst of light is needed to get the shot. Combine with high ISO sensitivity - from 100 to 16000 ISO - to enable shooting in just about any setting
  • 4K Still image output by HDMI or Wi-Fi® for viewing on 4K TVs
Enjoy Ultra High Definition slide shows directly from the camera to a compatible 4K television. The A6000 converts images for optimized 4K image size playback (8MP). Enjoy expressive rich colors and amazing detail like never before. Images can be viewed via an optional HDMI®
  • New Eye AF control
Thanks to extremely accurate eye detection, faces will be sharply focused - even when capturing a subject partially turned away from the camera and with a shallow depth of field – as the camera can prioritize a single pupil. A green frame appears over the prioritized eye when focus has been achieved for easy confirmation. Eye AF can be used when the function is assigned to a customizable button, allowing users to instantly activate it depending on the scene

I want to be blunt about a couple of things to start. Firstly, I am a novice photographer. Most of my understanding of photography came from researching the camera I wanted to buy. Secondly, this is my first camera of any competitive caliber. That said, this is the camera I chose after much research. It has very much lived up to and surpassed my expectations in most ways. That said (part II), it is not perfect and the rating given is for its placement in the camera hierarchy. I think, if someone is looking for an all around, best bang for the buck camera for daily use, family portraits/life moments, compact carry, and even artistic photography within an affordable price range, the a6000 is probably what they are looking for. I've read criticisms of the low light performance, and it can be hard to tweak.... but I have gotten some decent images outside after midnight. The clarity is impressive, in general. The speed lives up to the hype. This said, there are some justifiable criticisms. It can be stubborn in the dark when it can't focus on what you are aiming at - in other words, it relies on its own computer focusing instead of trusting the user. Sometimes it is right, sometimes you just wish it would do as it is told, if only so you can get an idea of how to adjust the settings. There is no touch screen or mic jack. The fastest shutter speed is a "mere" 1/4000, which is fine for what it is, but there is a bit of a contrast with faster cameras. I'm sure they could have hit 1/16000 with its electronic nature without much of a price increase. I suspect Sony didn't want to make its higher end cameras completely irrelevant.

The camera body is excellent, but the lens selection is a BIG disappointment. In particular the lack of fast zooms. Anyone moving from the world of Canon and Nikon DSLR's is used to be able to get quality f/2.8 zooms, and there's one crazy fast f/1.8 Sigma zoom available. But in the e-mount world, the quality zooms only go to f/4. Very dissapointing.

Great pictures for travel, easy to handle

By

Comments about Sony Alpha A6000 24.3 Megapixel Black Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens:

I received this camera from Sony support in exchange for a non repairable camera. At the time all they had was white. I would never buy a white camera myself, but that doesn't affect picture quality which is excellent. I am amazed by how good the jpegs right out of the camera really are - properly exposed and with good white balance. RAW files also lend themselves to post processing if desired. I wish there were more affordable prime lenses, especially in the telephoto range. Sony has pretty much switched their lens production over to the larger full-frame cameras, which I don't want or need.

Focus is POOR

By

from 33446

Comments about Sony Alpha A6000 24.3 Megapixel Black Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens:

We are a two A6000 family and are replacing both as we "speak". I am unable to achieve sharp focus on either body with either lens - a SONY 18-200 and a similar Tamron. Smaller than F/8 all is sharp - but so is a $29 drugstore camera. More than f/8, I get sharp focus only with DMF - if I use DMF, focus is fine - I touch up the autofocus by a turn of the DMF ring, sharp focus. I've tried with a tripod and remote shutter, so it isn't my shake - the autofocus is fast but poor. Calls to Sony and a software upgrade improved the camera to poor - but, for now, it is an f/8 lens with medium quality results.

Made a believer out of me!

By

Comments about Sony Alpha A6000 24.3 Megapixel Black Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens:

We needed an upgrade from a decent but slow camera. After research, I narrowed down to a Sony a6000. It's like a dream come true. All the features of the camera can make even a beginner seem like a professional. The auto focusing, tracking, 11 fps, and the list goes on. Best price for a camera that compares with high end professional cameras.

Comments about Sony Alpha A6000 24.3 Megapixel Black Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens:

I'm not sure that The Sony replaces my other SLRs, but I love the smaller size, light weight, and high pixel count. The faster autofocus is another great feature for animal photography. Just returned from a cruise to Alaska. It was great not to lug along my big cameras. I did buy a 210 zoom lens so I was able to catch eagle shots . Then I cropped the pics and still had great image quality.

Comments about Sony Alpha A6000 24.3 Megapixel Black Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens:

Phenomenal in so many ways. Amazing picture quality with this camera. Ultra fast focusing...unreal to say the least. I really love it now that I have used it for a bit, a little tricky at first but fairly easy to master.

@6000 Best Ever?

Comments about Sony Alpha A6000 24.3 Megapixel Black Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens:

great camera with professional features packed into an affordable package. You get more than 11fps and I have never seen any camera focus faster than this one. It is even possible to change the focal point by using the fine focus adjustment. Do not be warned off by what appears to be the many complexities of this awesome camera. Even if you just use a few settings because you can program them for use with a touch of one button. So many options and ways to shoot and so little time..
