Comments about Bosch Tools 1/4" Impact Driver:
I have been looking for a Impact driver for a long time. I decided on a Bosch because of the experience with my Bosch cordless drill. The battery last a lot longer than another brand I bought years ago. I can keep moving forward with my projects and have to stop and recharge as I use to do with the other brand six batteries. I would recommend it to a friend.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bosch IDS-181-02 Impact Driver

Excellent Power, longer run time on the Battery,Compact, gets into tighter places
Size & Performance top of the class!
from Chicago, IL, United States
Handles 99% of my drill & fasten needs needs. Handy to use hex drill bits, lots of torque to break free & drive serious fasteners, making it two tools in one. Belt hook is brilliant & carrying a spare slim pack battery (in your pocket) up the ladder is a light burden. No comparison to any non lithium tool and wins the ease of carry contest hands down.Takes a beating and keeps repeating. I own three Bosch impacts I have used regularly with confidence & much satisfaction..
Wish I had bought this sooner!

Last year we purchased our 80 year old home. Since we've moved in, there have been numerous projects that required driving screws. Up till a couple months ago, I was relying on my old cordless drill to perform both drilling and driving duties. Its battery is showing its age and needs to be recharged before each use, which is not convenient. I often have just manually screwed in fasteners as a result. Since I purchased my IDS181, I've put it to good use. Despite being 18v versus my old 19.2v drill, the Bosch drives much better due to the impact function and its greater torque. Recently, I drove a series of 3" #8 screws full depth into solid wood without the need for pilot holes. I was impressed how easily the screws were sunk. In the short time of ownership, I've saved much effort with a number of jobs. Looking at my long "to-do" list, this driver and its partner drill, (DDS-181), will see be very handy.
I gave this to my boyfriend for christmas and it is great!!!!!!!!!!!!. Both of us love the power and ease. The battery life is the best.
Wonderful For Scene Shop
from Boca Raton, FL, United States
I purchased one of these to use in a primarily Makita shop. I find that this tool outperforms the Makitas in every aspect except battery life, however in our use, in a scene shop, if you keep up on charging, shouldn't have an issue. I find this tool MUCH quieter, more powerful, much lighter (due to the slimpacs vs the large 3ah) , and overall better. The placement of the LEDs makes it hard to shadow whatever you are screwing. I like to use a long Dewalt bit that closes over the head of the screw, making it harder to bite off the head. I am a tad bit worried about the plastic build quality, but what isn't plastic these day; and at this price, it can be replaced easily. It drives screws with such ease, my 6 year old cousin has no problem countersinking 3" screws into 2X4's. Impact Drivers in general are fantastic, but this model in particular is WONDErFUL. I have tried all of the competitors, and this is the best bet. I really also like the simple but effective charger. I find other chargers ....Makita.... to be very confusing (and sometimes even challenging for Electrical Engineers to understand). Over all, a great product in every sense.

I've had this drill for about a month and a half now, and it's amazing! It drives screws right into pretty much anything. The only time it has had a problem was into a thick knot on a 2x4, but you can pretty much expect that. Bosch makes great tools all around! I love the L-Boxxs; though this kit does NOT come with one. The particular kit I bought at Lowe's only came with one battery as well, but it was a little bit cheaper than this kit. I had recently purchased some Porter-Cable 18v tools. I returned them and upgraded to Bosch. Though I have spent about $600 more so far and still need to get the metal grinder to be up to the same set; which was a standard drill (I now have the Bosch Hammer Drill #BSHNHDH181BL), a impact drill (now have this one), a circular saw (now have Bosch #CCS180BL), metal grinder (still need), and 4 NiCad batteries (now have 4 Bosch LiIon). Plus I have L-Boxxs for the saw and hammer drill, plus the L-Boxx3D with the deep drawer and thin drawer with organizing tray. Though the L-Boxx3D and the hammer drill are on the way in the mail at the moment. In short Bosch makes excellent tools and has an awesome storage system, but they do have that price. The are professional grade tools. In fact the Bosch Power Tools in the US are the PRO line in the UK, and they have a whole different consumer line.
Powerful and compact.

A great compact but yet powerful tool for the do-it-yourselfer and a contractor.
Drives Phillips screws everytime
from Corvallis, OR
This is my first impact driver tool. Wow! Drives any screw as deep as you want without stripping out the head. Amazing for setting subfloors with phillips heads!
Does nearly anything
I bought this tool in a two tool kit, along with the driver-drill, and two batteries, with the new plastic cases. My cordless tool inventory is now nearly all Bosch Blue, starting with 10.8v sets. This impactor will do anything I throw at it, including driving 3.5" lag screws without pilot holes in construction grade lumber. With it I put together metal steps on my front entrance stairway, and got it done in about half the expected time, because this impact driver is so fast. The primary differences with the earlier Bosch drivers in 10.8v is the size and a bit more weight, but less than was expected for the more powerful batteries. All of my Bosch cordless tools seem to be more powerful and user friendly than comparable volt level cordless tools in other brands. I have worked with three other brands of cordless tools, and automatically pick up my Bosch tools now. And my wife has virtually absconded with one of my Bosch 10.8v tool kits, because the tools are light, powerful, and easy to use.
