working in the Telecommunication industry I would Typically use a 2" rotary hammer for Firewall penetrations but this drill proved to me it could handle a 2 1/2" carbide Rock cutting hole saw as well as 12"x1/2" sds (don't kill me for putting SDS bits in a Chuck). Now whenever I'm doing a penetration thru cinder or questionable building material Bosch Bores the way. this drill truly shines when you need a whole slew of expansion anchors holes tapped the speed at which this thing eats is crazy! and it fell off "big-Bertha" a 12' A frame only to bounce back at it

I bought this drill 4 days ago and returned it today. I used it for the first time yesterday with a 1 1/8" spade bit with a 1/4" hex shank drilling through 2"x6" studs to wire a garage. On the eleventh hole the bit jammed and the gears stripped. With no load the bit would still turn but if you put any kind of load on it (even just holding the chuck by hand) the bit would stop and the gears would grind. I've used the Bosch Bulldog and the bigger Bosch demolition hammers before and they worked great so I was expecting a tool that was more rugged and reliable than this one turned out to be. I would expect a 1/2" drill to twist off a 1/4" hex shank before it's gears stripped. This drill has cost me 6 hours of work if you take into consideration the time taken to go get it in the first place, then have to return it and get a different one.

Comments about Bosch Tools 1/2" Single-Speed Hammer Drill:
After taking over 20 min to drill a 1/4inch hole in a cement wall in my renovated foundry condo with my usual 110v drill with carbide bit a while back, I "took the plunge" to buy a hammer drill for my newest project - mounting a shelving unit on the same wall. 1191VSRK. I feared I might have bought an underpowered tool compared to some on the market, but that fear disappeared after 6 second holes with next to no effort. Very comfortable and easy to use. Capital!

The drill worked fine for small jobs, 1/2", 3/4" but as soon as I needed to drill a large hole the drill stripped out. I was about 2" into a 3" hole using a new hole saw when the gear stripped. Now drill makes a lot of noise but will stop drilling if any pressure is put on it. I the shop now for repairs.

One Day - Hammer Action Quit Working
from Baton Rouge, LA
Had an older version of this drill, but hammer action stopped working. I bought this drill yesterday to drill the same 1/4" holes in Class 5 Porcelain tile at work. It took 26 bits and 4 hours to drill only 22 holes! Hammer action again stopped about half-way thru. Could not complete the job, plan to return drill for refund and look for something else. Frustrated, aggravated. Probably fine as just a drill and for light jobs/soft materials, but for real work, look elsewhere. Gave poor rating for my intended use, would give it 4-5 stars for light work.
It's not a BullDog, or a Brute. Don't abuse it.

If you are a hobbyist, DIY guy, or just need it for small projects, it's a great tool. If you work in the construction industry like myself, and if you want a tool that can handle an 80-foot drop from a boom lift, (surviving without so much as a crack) outperforms all the other tools on the job site, comes with a great warranty, and will last a lifetime select from the Bulldog, or Brute Tough line of Bosch tools. You will NEVER be disappointed.

I have used this drill a few times since purchase and so far so good except for one thing - the switch from drill to hammer mode moves on it's own now and then
Still a great drill

My initial review was after I'd used it a couple of times as was based on my previous combo drill from another manufacturer. Just wanted to say the drillis still performing really well. Very glad I purchased this drill.

I'm in the process of remodeling a house and needed a drill that could do it all; deck, cabinets, sub floor, concrete. Excellent torque and overall performance. A great value.
powerful motor and extra length power cord
Yes, I bought this BOSCH hammer drill about a months ago. It has a very powerful motor for the size and weight of the machine, and it is ergonomically well shaped which makes it easy to handle. I also like the chuck-key holder as being part of the cord. I find it very practical for all manner of drilling jobs.

My manager bought this for me to replace my older drill that had been stolen by an ex-employee. First impression was that it was small enough for me to handle, and had a nice long grip on the chuck key so I could get plenty of leverage tightening or loosening the chuck. I liked the sliding selection switch on top and out of the way, previous hammerdrills had toggles on the side that were easily damaged if the drill was dropped. The depth gauge feature on the fore grip is a bonus, I haven't had a use for it yet but it's nice that it's there. My favorite feature is the variable speed, with nice power at low speeds to get demanding yet delicate work done. Other larger drills I have used burn up if you run them at low speeds.
