For the price, I don't know why I don't have a few of these in my tool arsenal. I got this router to replace my old laminate trimmer (which I never really used for trimming laminate). I was instantly amazed at how well ergonomically designed it is as well as how powerful it is. I have found through use that it can perform 90% of my routing needs. The one handed design and low weight make narrow edge routing operations much easier compared to steadying a 'full sized' router. One big problem is that it only comes with one collet wrench and the integrated arbor lock wears out quickly. I ended up making a second wrench to fit a notch on the arbor shaft. The few small cons concerning this router are that it only accepts 1/4" shank bits, the visibility in the base is small and limiting, and the square base makes routing along a guide difficult. But since most router bits use bearings this isn't a major problem.

Bought this router to do some light edging on a coffee table I was making. I finished all my work in less than an hour. I started on another project later that day and the router worked a while and quit. I thought I tripped a breaker, but not the case. It just stopped working. Now it's going back to get serviced. Glad I finished my coffee table before it died. I later read that I am not the only person to have this little gem quit on. Disappointed to say the least.

Comments about Bosch Tools Variable-Speed Palm Router Kit:
For the longest time I used a Festool MFK700 trim router. But after fussing around with setting up the Festool MFK700 and the fact that the Festool MFK700 does not have a plunge base, I decided to invest into the Bosch Colt trim router and a plunge base. I was pleasantly impressed with the Colt. The Colt combined with the plunge base is just brilliant. Variable speed allows you to dial in the proper speed for the bit. I wouldn't buy a router with a single speed. Dust collection was better than I expected. I really like the fact that Bosch created a edge guide (Bosch item # RA1054) that works with the MRC23EVSK 2.3 HP router base (another great Bosch router I must add that I enjoy using) with the plunge base for the Colt. I only need one edge guide for two different routers. With Festool, you're forced to buy a different sized edge guide for each router they sell. For small jobs, the use of 1/4" router bits you can't go wrong with the Colt. Easy to dial in the depth of the router bit. I like being able to see the router bit while using the router, I can easily see the bit on the Colt. Another thing about the Festool MFK700 I don't like. Compact design fits nicely in my hands. Easy to control. Just overall a darn good router. My only complaint about the Colt is the plastic case it comes in. I'm a neat freak. I want everything to be in one place. I wish the Colt was sold in a L-BOXX with a insert for all the Colt accessories to fit in so that everything would be in one L-BOXX case. I have a lot of Festool tools and like the fact that the accessories for the different tool can be stored with the tool. Hopefully Bosch will offer more L-Boxx combos in the future.

Sorry I have only used ...

Sorry I have only used once since my purchase. Not sure I can properly rate after only one use, however I do like it very much. It seems to have plenty of power for it's size. The plastic storage case is super . It is tough plastic with a well designed hinge and latch system. The case also has room for several accessories. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a quality small router.
Great Tool for Mortising hinges and lock plates.

I used the tool to mortise the hinges and lock plates on an entry door jamb I replaced. I didn't give it five stars, only because it is difficult to set the depth of cut. You have to set it, and then lock it down. Locking it often changes the depth of cut, so there is a lot of trial and error till you get it set. Use a scrap piece of the old jamb to set depth.
Handheld Palm Router

As a professional cabinet maker, Bosch routers are my first choice. The palm router is well balanced, easy to adjust, easy to change bits and are as smooth as a well oiled sewing machine. I have seven routers and five are Bosch. I am very impressed with this little router and the power it has for such a small size.
Great little router
I purchased this router after doing a lot of comparisons with similar models. I have another router but it is over 25 years old. Router technology has advanced. I especially like the slow start feature and the variable speed.
Great little router, acts like a big router

Used this recently while building a bookcase and it worked well. For the type of routing in this project, a larger router would have just gotten in the way. Well built, easy to adjust.
Must buy! Incredible Tool!

As a weekend woodworker, I bought this router for edge forming, trimming, and hinge mortising - I'm very happy with it. I haven't had any of the problems cited in other reviews. The spindle lock, collet, and wrench on my Colt are fine. As far as I can tell, the shaft is 90 degrees to the base, and the base locking mechanism is solid and well done - it makes the mechanisms on most other trim routers look ridiculous by comparison. The "problem" with the depth setting changing when the base is locked down is well described in the owner's manual and easy to work around if you have just a little patience. As far as I'm concerned, this is a non-issue. If you need a router to cut lots deep dados or run all day trouble free for years, obviously this is not the right unit. It seems to me that the problems experienced by other users are caused either by misuse or by bad individual examples of what is generally a well designed product. I'm picky about tools, and this gets an easy 5 stars. I have been using my new Colt router for a month now and it is a wonderful addition to my shop. I have a large bench mounted router, but this tool is now being used more often than the more powerful cousin. It is so easy to route edges, especailly for rounding over or using the flush cut router bit. Put the box or other item you want to rout on a pad made for holding the work and just cut away. The Colt is very easy to control. Making hinge morteses is a snap because the router doesn't grab or try to move off track. You can use the edge guide to help you make the mortese straight. All of the cutting so far has been in red oak and oak vineer plywood. It performs well in both. The bits are easy to change, and the depth is easy to set. A well thought out tool and well worth the price. I use it all the time in my shop now. I wouldn't be without it.
Little guy router in a big guy world

This router is awesome. It does everything my big router does. Great product highly recommend

For small things and trims, this router works great. Light, easy to operate even single handedly. Lacks power for serious routing, but that's not it's purpose after all. For what it's meant to do, it's powerful enough. Used it to trim laminate and it works best kind.
