The single blade design is actually really nice. After changing blades several times and not having to worry about aligning two different blades it became apparent that this is an improvement on planer design in my opinion. I have read of people having problems with the blade cutting different depths on left and right sides of the plane. The only time I have noticed mine doing so was after changing blades and was easily corrected by removing dust and debris from the blade slot in the rotor which was keeping the blade from resting evenly across the blade channel or from me tightening the set screws fully on one side before the other, rather than snugging up each set screw until both are engaged with the blade before final tightening. I probably have abused my planer by using it to level 1000 square feet (300 square meters) of 60 year old red oak hardwood flooring which was cupped and warped but it has impressed me as the motor may have gotten somewhat hot but didn't make any magic smoke. I was keeping fresh blades in it and running it all day long but I wouldn't have been surprised at all to have burned up a tool with that project. It turned out to be faster than a flooring drum sander with 24 grit rolls and has paid for itself on one job. I was able to follow it up directly with 150 grit rolls for final sand with the sander in order to get out any slight ridges and finish the flooring much more quickly than I had first anticipated. I noticed the depth control was capable of getting deeper than several of the other planers in it's class and it is very easy to use and didn't twist out of it's setting during use on me. The dust collection works great even when a dust collection system isn't attached. The planer won't push everything into the bag but I don't believe any planer will collect everything. I would conservatively estimate this one will get about 95% into the bag. One thing I have been noticing about my tool collection is that the Bosch tools typically have the longest power cords. This tool has a very long pliable cord which I find to be a great feature. I am very conscious of ergonomics and had no complaints on this after using it for so many hours straight through. Although for my personal taste, very thin grips are the most comfortable, even with my medium to large hands, and play a large part of my tool purchasing choices. This tool doesn't have a particularly small handle but it is designed with good ergonomics.

Read all the reviews on this planer and didn't find anything objectionable that couldn't be handled. After I started using it, I found that the shavings were not being ejected. I thought maybe the bag was full. Took the bag off and the problem still occurred. When the shavings aren't ejected, it slows the knife down which leaves marks in the wood. Had to stop work after a short time and clean out. Other than that, I really like the tool. I guess if it were hooked up to a vacuum, you probably wouldn't have the problem but this is supposed to be a portable tool.

Beware of Power cord memory!
from Newport, Tennessee
Comments about Bosch Tools 3-1/4" Planer:
Purchased PL 1682 Planer from Lowes on 2-2-15. Noticed, right off, that It was not giving me a true even cut (one side of cut deeper than other side). Could not find adjustment to level out cut. Later in the day I decided to try again with scrap piece of wood. Power cord still retained coiled memory from being twist tied in box. When I lifted the Planer off of my work bench, as I squeezed the trigger, the power cord coiled up under the Planer and was literally pulled into the Planer by the rotating knife, cutting the cord, triping the breaker, causing the belt to spin off of the motor pulley and getting hot enough to melt the inside of the plastic belt cover. Needless to say it will be returned to Lowes. I use many Bosch Products in my shop (chop/compound saw, drills, router, etc.) and consider them the top of the line. I do recommend Bosch Tools but I would NOT recommend the PL 1682 Planer. I am hoping this situation is only a fluke.

worked perfectly the first time.
I was able to plane the first door in five minutes, the second door was completed four minutes later. The exact right tool with its included guide finished this home project ten years in the contemplation.

Are you kidding me!

I spent years tuning, sharpening and learning to use a hand plane. I am pretty good at it. I bought the power planer to flatten some 2x4 walls before tiling them. what I did not expect was how well this thing works. AWESOME. Love it.
Very aggressive planer
from Montreal, QC, Canada
While very well built and powerful, the PL1682 is an aggressive planer that enjoys taking wood off fast. Even if filed back to zero, it's hard not to remove much more wood than desired. If you need to take a lot of wood off fast, the tool is for you. For more control, use a hand planer.
Very easy to handle. Makes nice smooth cuts.
I would recommend this. It is so easy to use and it works great for any project or any type of wood.
Good all around Tool
Planer is well balanced and makes quick work of any task, the dust collection bag worked wonderfully on a few jobs that I had to finish in the house.
