Features:

  • 20.1 MP 1-inch Exmor R® Sensor
Featuring a large 1.0” Exmor R® CMOS image sensor. The back-illuminated technology doubles light sensitivity and combines with Sony’s Column A/D Conversion to reduce noise levels — a great help when photographing in dimly lit environments. Markedly reduced noise is evident even when high-sensitivity settings are used for capturing night landscapes or indoor scenes
  • Bright F1.8 Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* lens (24-70mm)
The DSC-RX100 III sports an all new bright F1.8-2.8 Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* lens with 24-70mm zoom. The lens is perfect for portraits and macro shots with beautiful defocused - bokeh backgrounds. A premium multi-layered T* coating also dramatically reduces ghost and flare caused by light reflection
  • Built-in SVGA OLED viewfinder w/ZEISS T* coating
View every scene in rich detail with the bright and retractable SVGA OLED Tru-Finder. The viewfinder faithfully displays what will appear in your recording, including the effects of your camera settings, so you can accurately monitor the results. The ZEISS T* coating enhances clarity and reduces flare and reflection in the eyepiece optics
  • Selfie-ready multi-angle 3" Xtra Fine LCD™ display
Selfies have never been easier with a beautiful 3” (1,229k dots) Xtra Fine™ LCD Display that rotates in multiple angles. This also makes it easy to photograph over crowds or low to capture pets eye to eye by swinging up approx. 180° and down approx. 45°. Easily scroll through menus and preview life thanks to WhiteMagic™ technology that dramatically increases visibility in bright daylight. The large display delivers brilliant-quality still images and movies while enabling easy focusing operation
  • Versatile shooting w/ XAVC S2, AVCHD and MP4 codes
The DSC-RX100 III records HD movies1 in the XAVC S2 format, which uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 for video compression and linear PCM for audio compression, while saving files in a MP4 wrapper. The highly compressed files allow extensive record times. With 50Mbps Full HD (1920x1080) 60p high quality video recording, XAVC S2 enables beautiful video recording with minimal compression noise even in scenes with a lot of movement. Linear PCM is adopted for audio compression. The camera also records in AVCHD, ideal for quality video for HDTV and Blu-ray Disc™ burning. Additionally, users can shoot the easily shareable MP4 HD video, ideal for web
  • Built-in ND filter for wider-ranging photographic expression
Realize a wider range of photographic expression with built-in 1/8 (3 EV stops) ND filter that allows the use of wider aperture for defocused backgrounds even in bright daylight
  • HDMI® clear output for uncompressed video recordings
Clear, uncompressed digital movie signal output can be transferred to an external monitor/recorder (connected via the HDMI® terminal) simultaneously in real time from the RX100 III3. The shooting info display can be turned off for even cleaner views of such movies on an external monitor/recorder. Frame rates include 24p, 60p and 60i
  • Comfortable control ring for manual operation
A unique control ring around the lens works in combination with an intuitive, displayed user interface for meticulous SLR-type control over settings that satisfies even the most fastidious users. The control ring can be assigned to adjust various features (at various values) from basics like zooming and aperture to creative functions like Picture Effect. Moreover, it turns smoothly and seamlessly, allowing quiet, click-free usage while shooting movies including a new step-zoom function that enables instant selection of commonly used focal lengths
  • Simple connectivity to smartphones via Wi-Fi® w/ NFC
Connectivity with smartphones for One-touch sharing/One-touch remote has been simplified with Wi-Fi®/NFC control. In addition to Wi-Fi support for connecting to smartphones, the DSC-RX100 III also supports NFC (near field communication) - - providing “touch connection” convenience when transferring images to compatible Android™ smartphones and tablets. Users need only touch devices to connect; no complex set-up is required. Moreover, when using Smart Remote Control — a feature that allows shutter release to be controlled by a smartphone — connection between DSC-RX100 III and the smartphone can be established by simply touching devices
  • Enhance your camera with PlayMemoriesCamera Apps™
Personalize your camera by adding new features of your choice with PlayMemories Camera Apps™. Find apps to fit your shooting style from portraits, detailed close-ups, sports, time lapse, motion shot and much more. Just got the camera. I have used the previous version of this camera for a year now and it's great. I was looking forward to the wi-fi feature of the new camera, but it's a no-go, at least if you're a Mac OSX user. There's one thing I really hate -- us Mac users being relegated to the back of the bus insofar as software support is concerned. In this case, I go to the web link Sony has designated in the supporting documentation as the link to download the software for wi-fi for the Mac (a completely unintelligible Japanese link if you must know, or are fluent in Japanese) and I am greeted with a "File Not Found" (the only non Japanese characters on the web site) greeting. Please don't tell me that a company as large as Sony is incapable (or unwilling) to release software support for a product for both the Windows and the Mac platform simultaneously. Very frustrating experience and it definitely does not make me want to buy a VAIO computer if that's their ulterior motive.

I owned and loved the RX100 but the RX100M2 has some really bad pitfalls. 1) Their new "autofocus" is worse than in the RX100. It prioritizes the background and objects in the foreground are often out of focus. For example, I can be recording video in auto-mode with a person 2 feet in front of me and it will focus on the background half the time, even when the person takes up 90% of the frame. It makes no sense why the camera would focus on something that takes up 1/10th of the picture! 2) Whites really, really throw off blacks. If someone is wearing a white shirt and black pants, their legs turn out like black shadows because it messes up the exposure. There 'should' be an option for backlight compensation or something that de-prioritizes whites and compensates for blacks. Blacks are always hard to pick up and this makes it that much worse. 3) Wi-Fi is really spotty. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3 so maybe an iPhone is more consistent but when you start recording, it's very laggy and almost impossible to use the zoom function. Thanks for hearing my feedback, Sony. Can't wait for the RX200!

The best point and shoot camera in th emarket

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

I have all three models of RX100 and it has never disappointed me. You have to see the pictures to believe the quality from a small camera like this. For me everything is perfect and justify the price of the camera.

Loved this until.....

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

Bought the camera for indoor low light concerts for a band that i work for. It did such a stellar job many people thought i was using a DSLR! Absolutely loved the camera for both stills and videos. And then one night it started malfunctioning. if i went to press the button, the window changed over to the wheel and started rotating furiously! it finally stopped but again, almost every time I went to take a pic the wheel would show up. While it didn't change it was super annoying and I lost many good shots. For one show I had to switch to video mode then spend extra time pulling frames from them for my still shots. My warranty is up and don't want to spend alot of money getting it repaired if it can be repaired. Been looking at the A6000 or waiting for it's replacement. Sad that it malfunctioned on me because i was totally in love with this camera!

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

good image quality, good in marginal light conditions. No digital zoom - optical zoom to 3x only. Haven't yet begun to decipher all the features of this camera, I have a feeling I'm only beginning to tap the potential of this device.

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

Well built. Works perfectly out of the box with factory settings. Fits easily into a pants pocket with plenty of opportunity to take excellent pictures while learning to use all the advanced features. However, not for a telephoto fanatic.

Great Camera

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

My wife and I bought one of these for a trip we just took to Italy. I had it for a couple of months before and was able to test it and get comfortable with it. I bought extra batteries and 32M memory cards. Bottom line, this is a great camera. I was able to take photos outside in bright sun light, inside museums (no flash) and it is so easy to turn on, shoot and then turn off. I did buy a leather cover and a shoulder strap. This is a tough little camera. The battery last forever (never had one run out suddenly) The photos I bought home from the trip are great. I highly recommend this camera for what you can do with it.

Great pocket digital camera

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

The large sensor and zeiss lens combine to produce exceptional photos. It's extremely flexible giving you the option of using one of several automatic modes to full manual operation. Its price, performance, and size are ideal if you're looking for a 'handy' digital camera.

Much better than my Canon PowerShot G9!

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

The picture is clearer, the color is more vivid compared to my Canon PowerShot G9 in the same pre-set settings. I don't have to Photoshop the pictures. I'm very happy and satisfied with the camera.

Great compact camera for general shooting

By

from Bend, OR 97701, USA

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot 20.1 Megapixel Black Digital Camera:

Great compact camera with a relatively large sensor. Good lens and image quality but only 24-70 mm range. Viewfinder generally good and visible in all ambient light conditions except bright sunlight.
