I am so very disappointed. The design and features and look of this turntable are great.

But after setting it up we found that only the Left channel was working and the right channel is dead, whether on Line Out or Phono Out. We checked the stylus, the wiring of the stylus, fiddled with the arm height, weight, skate force, tried different records. We soo wanted this to be fixable. But sadly no.

Defective product out of the box so back it goes.

I so wanted to believe that the reviews that were negative here were one off lemon examples. But now I think I'll buy a different product and buy it locally not over the web.

Disappointed.

This is a perfect turntable for casual listening, obviously I would not recommend it for scratching as it is a belt drive, but it does a very good job for listening and vinyl sampling.

      A Very Good Mid-Range Turntable

      By

      from Toronto, Canada

      Pros

      • Versatile

      Cons

        Best Uses

It is a fully manual turntable. Styled as an SL-1200, with similar features, it's allows for various cartridge height in thanks to the tonearm height adjustment. The rumble and wow & flutter are fair for a direct drive table. I have upgraded from the supplied cartridge, but for average users it's sufficient. The switchable preamp is a nice touch for today's audio equipment that doesn't have a dedicated phono input. That, or for direct connection to a computer for USB use.

This record player has the best sound you'll ever find for this price. The money for other budget turntables tends to go into design rather than sound quality. This is quick to set up, easy to use and it sounds great with good speakers. Because of the limited features, it isn't very customizable. We tried to use a cork mat, but it's thicker than the standard mat provided with this turntable. Since we can't raise the tonearm to compensate, it resulted in a little bit of sound distortion. But if you're not looking to spend a lot of money on a turntable to start with, this can help restrain the urge to spend money on all the little upgrades. This is still hands down the best turntable in this price range.

              Best Uses

I was so excited about my purchase initially, the sound quality was good for the price and it was easy to use. I've used this product about an hour per week over the 1year I've owned it and it is no longer working. It can't seem to get up to speed and the needle can't figure out the proper place to touch down on the record(that occurred 6months into use but could be rectified manually). I figure paying for repair and the hassle of returning it isn't worth it. Another product for the landfill.

                  Best Uses

For the money, this is a great turntable. Unfortunately, it is plagued by its cheap internal preamp, which dampens the highs and muddies the lows. Bypassing it doesn't solve the issue because the signal still runs through some capacitors. The only solution is getting rid of it altogether. The are a couple of videos on Youtube showing one how to do that. I've done this to mine and the results were unbelievable. Suddenly my LP120 produced more detailed highs and tighter lows and everything just sounded clearer.

I wish Audio Technica would sell a version of the LP120 without the internal pre amp, so us users wouldn't need to resort to such measures in order to extract the most from this otherwise brilliant turntable.

If you guys are reading this, please make an Lp120 without the preamp. Everyone would benefit from the choice!

Out of box, only one audio connector worked. I will need to send back entire unit because they made a very wise decision to wire the audio cables directly to the processor board. Who does that?
